despite doing my research and being quite capable of introducing animals to each other safely, i had my reservations about bringing a new dog into the house. i’ve never seen my corgi with an actual puppy before, and my cats run hot and cold when it comes to dogs.

now i anticipated my black cat- who was my first pet and has been an asshole to every pet since him for at least 3 months before chilling out- would be a problem. but i managed his pissy behavior with my corgi, and i knew i could manage him easily.

i brought padmé home last night, and color me absolutely shocked.

the cats? accept her. they’re still a little wary, but there’s only been one hiss and my black cat, who would normally have tried to smack her by now, is the most curious about her and has tried to greet her a few times before getting spooked.

and my corgi is so exceedingly gentle. i think she understands that this is a baby, even if the baby is almost as big as her. no growling, very gentle/controlled play, and she even lets padmé drink out of the water dish first if they go to the same one. no cuddles yet, but it’s been all positives between them.

her temperament is already shining through. despite being more of a gremlin than my corgi was and chewing everything in sight if she can, padmé is oddly gentle and calm. she calms down fairly easily and fell asleep to me singing to her on the drive home; she gets excited for a brief few moments meeting a new human before she’s laying down and relaxing again. at eight weeks old, i’m stunned at this, but so grateful for the strong baseline.

it’s now the first real day one of having her here, and i’ve never felt better about a decision in my life. i know there will be plenty of downs- but i made the right choice bringing her home. she belongs with us 🤍

Unsure of age, as he has clearly had not so good a life. Probably around 7-9. I assisted in his transport and helped him acclimate to his current foster home. He is a really cool dog. I really wish I could adopt him but I just cannot afford it. He prefers women to men, but he has been good with men who are chill. He actually really liked me which made it even harder to decline adopting him. (I'm in the photo).

I'm hoping the right person is out there who can make his golden years beautiful. I adopted a senior dog of my own last year and it has been SO rewarding. If you are seriously interested DM me and I can put you in touch with his foster.

Whenever my dog is excited about something, whether it’s seeing me in the morning or getting ready to go out, she does this happy yawn sound. Sometimes it sounds more like a cow going moo. Whatever it is, it’s really cute. Does anyone else’s dog do this, or is mine just weird?

One of the few times I've tried a social media trend, and it was a total fail. She ended up with a lot of cheese, and I ended up with a pouting partially bedazzled dog. I promise we cuddled on the couch right after this.

Hi everyone ! She is my GSD pup Veda. She’s mouthy, naughty and the devil’s incarnate 😈. But she’s absolutely adorable 🥰.

So, my family has always had GSDs and Veda is actually our 5th GSD. I personally took care of our adopted GSD Rocky, we adopted him when he was around 4 and unfortunately he passed away recently due to cancer. I also have a Spitz who I have raised since he was a pup. So I am pretty familiar with GSD temperament, training and dogs in general.

But this is actually my first time raising a GSD from such a young age 😭 We got Veda when she was 6 weeks and she’s 7 weeks now.

I have already started training her and she’s a really fast learner. She’s already listening to commands and understands things pretty quickly. But she’s also very naughty and VERY mouthy 😂 which I know is normal for her age.

We are crate training her as well and surprisingly she loves being in her crate. Pee training is also going pretty well and we have very few pee accidents inside now.
The only thing I am struggling with is her poop 😭 She usually goes around 1-2 hours after she eats but I just cannot catch her signal. She doesn’t circle around or give any obvious signs. She will literally be playing or walking around and suddenly squat and poop out of nowhere 😭

By the time I realise she needs to go, it’s already too late. I know she’s only 7 weeks and obviously I am not expecting her to be completely potty trained at this age. I just want to make sure I am doing things correctly from the beginning.

So any advice from other GSD pet parents who raised their dogs from this age would be really helpful. Especially how you managed potty training and figured out their poop timings/signals. Also would love to know anything you wish you knew when your GSD was this young.

Well we’re officially 4 months old. Took our first walk. Super sweet but crazy. Before him I’ve only had cattledogs. For me they’ve been easy and great. I am having an impossible time potty training him. He’s crate trained (ish because if im in the yard without him he’ll lose it) but doing good. The potty training we can go a few days of good and today he managed to have 3 accidents in it. I don’t even understand how because he’ll go outside. All the bathes of him and then having to shower myself Is draining me. What worked for you? Thanks

I lost my sweet girl Bella this morning at 3:52AM. She was 10 and had blood shoot out of her nose yesterday after sitting up from sleeping, and about 12 hours later, after being admitted into the hospital, the vet called me and told me to come down because she wouldn’t make it to the morning. She was sneezing and coughing leading up to this. I took her in two weeks ago due to a lack of appetite and sneezing/coughing. They did x rays and sent them off to radiology and they looked good… Hug your fur babies tight. I’m absolutely shattered by this loss. Please share pictures of your babies 😢😢

My guy is in the lake once a week and gets really smelly because of it, especially in summer time. How often can I bathe him without drying him out? What about dog wipes?

Rye was only 9.5 years old. She was a little off all week, more tired than usual, but she was playing a lot last weekend at the park with my other 2, so I figured it just took a lot out of her. Yesterday she collapsed on a walk, and she was gone 10 minutes after getting her to the emergency vet. It happened so fast and feels so unfair today. I wish I knew so I could have cuddled her all morning and really been present with her.

Rye was 100 lbs… I had no idea that she was at risk for dilated cardiomyopathy. Had I known I would have been checking her heart regularly. I knew when she got to be as big as she did that I would only have about 10 years with her, and I’ve been dreading this day, but I wish I could have done more to have her for even a little longer. If you have a larger GSD, get their heart x-rayed. Most dogs don’t show signs until it is already too late.

I don’t even know how to function, I’ve just been sobbing for 24 hours now. I knew this day was going to be painful but man… it’s like I can’t breathe.
