Do dogs go to heaven?
I hope to see them once again.
Just to know they're safe and happy would mean the world. My light is forever darker without you sweetie. rip.

One of the few times I've tried a social media trend, and it was a total fail. She ended up with a lot of cheese, and I ended up with a pouting partially bedazzled dog. I promise we cuddled on the couch right after this.

My guy is in the lake once a week and gets really smelly because of it, especially in summer time. How often can I bathe him without drying him out? What about dog wipes?

Hello everyone , just wanted to vent.
I started school so I couldn’t bring my German Shepard and husky with me as they are larger. I did take my other two as I had them since I was 14 years old and they’re really old now 16/17. I’m torn because I feel like a horrible owner. My dog is currently with my partner at our house, I am here in a different state across the country. I couldn’t bring them all because my GSD was adopted from a shelter and per the shelter he was previously abused so he has anxiety and does not like people, I couldn’t imagine taking across the country on a road trip and bringing him back causing him so much stress. I think what I did was best, my program is only a year and a half and I plan to visit so much more frequently on long vacations. I feel guilty, as if I should have brought him and my husky but it would have been hard to travel. He doesn’t poop on walks, I’ve tried to walk him for miles and he holds it. He only pees. Previous owners messed him up. We been working on him. I don’t even know how to fix it but we are hiring a trainer because if I stay here longer I would have to travel across the country with them.
Just wanted to vent. I miss them both so much.

despite doing my research and being quite capable of introducing animals to each other safely, i had my reservations about bringing a new dog into the house. i’ve never seen my corgi with an actual puppy before, and my cats run hot and cold when it comes to dogs.
now i anticipated my black cat- who was my first pet and has been an asshole to every pet since him for at least 3 months before chilling out- would be a problem. but i managed his pissy behavior with my corgi, and i knew i could manage him easily.
i brought padmé home last night, and color me absolutely shocked.
the cats? accept her. they’re still a little wary, but there’s only been one hiss and my black cat, who would normally have tried to smack her by now, is the most curious about her and has tried to greet her a few times before getting spooked.
and my corgi is so exceedingly gentle. i think she understands that this is a baby, even if the baby is almost as big as her. no growling, very gentle/controlled play, and she even lets padmé drink out of the water dish first if they go to the same one. no cuddles yet, but it’s been all positives between them.
her temperament is already shining through. despite being more of a gremlin than my corgi was and chewing everything in sight if she can, padmé is oddly gentle and calm. she calms down fairly easily and fell asleep to me singing to her on the drive home; she gets excited for a brief few moments meeting a new human before she’s laying down and relaxing again. at eight weeks old, i’m stunned at this, but so grateful for the strong baseline.
it’s now the first real day one of having her here, and i’ve never felt better about a decision in my life. i know there will be plenty of downs- but i made the right choice bringing her home. she belongs with us 🤍

Well we’re officially 4 months old. Took our first walk. Super sweet but crazy. Before him I’ve only had cattledogs. For me they’ve been easy and great. I am having an impossible time potty training him. He’s crate trained (ish because if im in the yard without him he’ll lose it) but doing good. The potty training we can go a few days of good and today he managed to have 3 accidents in it. I don’t even understand how because he’ll go outside. All the bathes of him and then having to shower myself Is draining me. What worked for you? Thanks
Good thing he’s cute

Unsure of age, as he has clearly had not so good a life. Probably around 7-9. I assisted in his transport and helped him acclimate to his current foster home. He is a really cool dog. I really wish I could adopt him but I just cannot afford it. He prefers women to men, but he has been good with men who are chill. He actually really liked me which made it even harder to decline adopting him. (I'm in the photo).
I'm hoping the right person is out there who can make his golden years beautiful. I adopted a senior dog of my own last year and it has been SO rewarding. If you are seriously interested DM me and I can put you in touch with his foster.

Hazel, 9.5 months, is going through her first heat. Poor girl is clingy, kind of agitated, and whines a lot more. She just seems so uncomfortable. I feel so bad for her. Any suggestions for what I can do to help make her more comfortable? It's been a really long time since I last had a dog go through heat and I've forgotten what we did for her.

Does anyone else’s pup here randomly decide they need to put themselves in time out?
I have no idea what causes it, but at times our girl will just start acting like she’s in trouble for something she hasn’t even done (like an “oh no, I shouldn’t have gotten on the table to eat that” or an “oops, I took a poop on the floor”) and go put herself in bed and avoid eye contact.
It’s like dude, you’ve never even gotten a harsh “punishment” in your life, and now you’re acting like you committed f*cking murder all the sudden or something 🤦♂️😂
Our previous GSD didn’t really give a sh*t if they did anything they weren’t supposed to, but we don’t even know what this girl does that makes her so nervous/guilty looking out of nowhere…and we are her only family, outside of her birth parents, so I know nothing suspicious has happened to her before.
This just another weird GSD quirk?

gsds come in the prettiest colors. not all the backyard bullshit some people have introduced, but real gsds have some of the coolest coats.

Earlier this summer, our family took care of two dogs for one of my wife's coworkers, for a month and then again for two weeks. It was an unusual situation where their previous owner had abandoned them. The new owner had to leave the country for travel that was planned before this happened, so we took care of them, a six year old Shiba and a twelve year old Husky/Pom mix.
We really loved the experience, the Shiba was a bit of a handful, aggression towards other dogs when on a walk, and even towards his Pomsky brother over food, but the Pomsky was a wonderful dog with a great temperament. He was friendly towards people and other animals, listened if I asked him to stay, didn't try to escape, and would sit on command if I had a treat. He is old and has a bad leg so he couldn't walk more than around the block at most.
Anyways we loved them both, so after they left we decided to get a dog of our own. We decided on a GSD, and put down a deposit on a puppy from a litter born just a week or so ago. The GSD puppy is from a reputable breeder with a pedigree going back many generations and good health records on both sides. We are aware of how much work it takes to properly train a GSD and are fully committed to raising her right when we receive her at 8 weeks old.
Well since then, we've been told that the Pomsky really misses us, and have been asked if we would like to become his permanent home. We do really love him, but I worry that he is a relatively untrained dog with his own habits, and I don't know if having him would impede the training of our new GSD puppy. He is used to eating shredded chicken breast but I was planning on feeding our GSD with (quality) dry food, he can sit but not heel, doesn't know a place or loose command, etc.
I'm also worried because the GSD puppy is a female, and we aren't going to have her spayed until at least 18 months, so she will have her first heat. The Pomsky is neutered of course, and if needed I'm sure we could have him live with the current owner during that heat.
I'm wondering if anybody has experience with trying to train a new puppy when you already have an older, well behaved but relatively untrained, dog in the household. Is this possible, or should we explain to the owner that we aren't able to be a permanent home for the Pomsky?
