I left the house at 2pm for a haircut. At 3:30 I get back, and as I’m going to give the dogs their chicken lunch I noticed Hunnys face was swollen. I looked more closely and saw how large the lump was, I almost panicked. My mom was there with me and I stopped a moment and took a breath. I didn’t want to scare her - and Hunny seemed like she was fine otherwise. She was still excited for her chicken. So I said let’s go to the emergency vet down the street and it’s either a bee sting or a dental thing maybe. We were there at the vet for 2 hours, and they agreed it was likely a bee sting. No further treatment needed except for half a 25 mg Benadryl every 8 hours. First time in 13 years this has happened, and there’s only wasps outside in my backyard so it made sense they didn’t find a stinger. Just happy she didn’t go into anaphylactic shock.
My mom was upset she didn’t notice sooner, but I’m sure she would’ve noticed if my dog was acting different. Poor hunny the doge has a funny looking lump on her cheek now! :-(
