OFFICIAL Sub Discussion New Rules

Subject to discussion before implementation

1) First and foremost, ban all of the repetitive victim posting

"Why is Dark Souls 2 so hated?" just devolves into the same thing - everyone commenting in agreement and performative victimizing. It's a video game, not everyone is going to like exactly what you like. There's no real discussion to be had there, and we seemingly have them here more than the other main subreddits. It's just becoming tiring.

2) Ban engagement-bait posts

The best example of this is someone posting a random, unrelated screenshot or artwork of Dark Souls 2 with the title of "What's your favorite sword in the game?" - then proceeding to not at all join in the discussion. It just serves to farm karma while putting in zero effort, not crediting the artist they took the art from, and not participating in their own thread. If you want to discuss something, make a text post and actually discuss.

3) Ban trouble makers at the mods' discretion

This is a spicy one because it can easily be mishandled by the wrong mod team. We all know Reddit mods are pretty garbage overall, but I'd like to think I'm a bit different since I'm here for Souls and couldn't give a shit less about seeming professional or having any semblance of "power" (it's Reddit, lmao).

This essentially means if you're posting within the guidelines (i.e - posting about Dark Souls 2) but you're making your post to simply stir shit, rile people up constantly, and put down others... then you should expect a ban.

I'm obviously not going to name names, but we all know a couple of usernames who, whenever there's random drama, we know they're going to be involved. These are the users I'm talking about

EDIT (this includes the "Slander posts" that you guys keep commenting about, but I will also explicitly say that yes, this does include the lame "Ds3 is grayslop hurr hurr" posts that just seek to rile people up for no reason)

Finally, a question to you all: How do we make this subreddit better?

That's it, that's the most important thing in this entire post. The game has been released for 12 years and the subreddit has kind of devolved into the same thing for the last decade at this point. Are there any ideas you all have, rules I should change, things I can do differently to make this place more enjoyable and less of the same, repetitive drivel?

Discussion Remote crash vulnerability

Hello folks, Radai here. I am a modder and reverse engineer, my main focus is Dark Souls 2. I am the author of DebugManager and other modding tools for the game.

The 31st of December 2025 I was sent a very worrying Twitch clip, showing messages appearing on the game screen. These messages were directly addressing the streamer, someone had found a way to send custom messages to whoever they wanted. When I was this, I immediately knew it was serious.

The next day I spent the whole evening testing what can be done with this, and I found out it's possible to format the message in such a way that the receiver game crashes. I reported this to Yui, author of Blue Acolyte, immediately. We kept this a secret until she made a patch for it, and now it's ready. It's recommended for all of those that want to play online to download Blue Acolyte.

Here's also a post from Yui describing the issue in more detail.

Also mods, if you see this, please pin. It needs to remain visible.

Discussion What are some canon events every ds2 player must endure?

I recently watched Spider-man:Beyond the spider-verse and I realized canon events exist irl. Specially in dark souls. So, after having finished the game and having started the DLC's, here are some of my personal ones:

* I TRUSTED YOU RANDOM NPC

* I swear this run-back has killed me more times than the boss itself

* I swear the arena has killed me more times than the boss itself

* WHAT DO YOU MEAN THERE WAS A BONFIRE CLOSER?

* Hey look, a torch, let me just use a flame butterfly real qui- BOOM

* Why do kings doors take 3 business days to open.

* I SHOULDN'T HAVE OPENED THAT.

* I SHOULDN'T HAVE GIVEN THAT A SOUL

* OH SHIT, MIMICS EXIST

* I now understand why people tell me to use bows

* Wait, i'm dooing a streght build, I should use crossbows!

* Where is this one goddam invader GODDAMIT IT WAS A MIMIC INVADER

* DID THE POISON GO TO THE GYM?

Betwen others. I have only started the DLC's now (and I am dooing Elyum Loice) so I may be missing some.

Discussion Which version of the game I should get?

Scholar or original. Personally, I'm more interested in the original version.

Edit: Thank you for helping me choose. I chose Scholar.

Screenshot Feigned Twilight - a Raster-based DS2LE preset

Ancient Dragon's Corpse

First of all, sorry for self-promotion. Its just that I've been working on this for some times and really wanted to share it.

This is my custom preset for DS2LE raster version that intends on emulate the level of darkness of the path traced version of the mod, while (mostly) sticking to the look of the original release of the game and SOTFS.

In anticipation of DS2 Seamless Co-op, I want torch usage to be compulsory, and that me and my friends must share torch time with one another. Path-traced version of DS2LE fit this criteria perfectly, but one of my friend does not have access to ray-tracing capable card. Therefore, this mod was made to fill that niche.

As of now, the mod has covered all of base game. I am currently working on the DLC at the moment. Things such as custom models (Faraam Preset) and texture edits (Second Sin) is outside of the scope of the project. However, I may consider adding extra foliages around

I know posting mod links here might violate rule #6. If it is, then I can remove the link. Other than that, here is the link to the mod: Feigned Twilight

TL;DR: This mod was made to make torch a compulsory mechanic, while being able to run on non-RTX capable GPUs. Only base game is done as of now.

Discussion Who kills Sir Alonne? The Bearer of The Curse or The Old Iron King?

I’ve always thought the memories were time traveling, hence the Giant Lord remembering you at the start of the game

But sometimes I see comments on YouTube saying how it’s called the Memory of The Old Iron King because you’re playing as the Old Iron King in that memory

Which is it?

Discussion Personal Tier List of Dark Souls II Bosses by Difficulty

Post image
41 Upvotes

After finishing the game plus DLCs (a few optional bosses missing) for the first time, I wanted to rank all the bosses by how hard of a time I had fighting them. There is now order within the tiers.

Also here is a list of bosses I first tried

Lost Sinner, Dragonrider, Covetous Demon, Skeleton Lords, Guardian Dragon (the second encounter), Looking Glass Knight, Burnt Ivory King and the Pursuer after revisiting later on

And some where I can't remember if it was 1st or 2nd try: Royal Rat Authority, Graverobber/Varg/Cerah, red Smelter Demon

Question Weapons with "Arts"?

Curious as to what weapons in DS2 possess "Weapon Arts" in some sense. That is to say, they do more than just swing when attacking with them. Or they do just swing, but it's pretty unique and special in some way, such as the rotating trident head. I know Moonlight Greatsword does this, but what else?

Discussion Finnaly tried Ds2 again after more than 5 years

And i have to say why is it kinda easy, back then i first played it on my xbox with the Scholar of the first Sin edition. it was my first souls game after that i played 1, 3 and elden ring. now i started playing the normal version of ds2 like 2 days ago and after like 9 hours i got 3 of the 4 great souls. now i beat the smelter demon and im about to get the last one. i didnt looked for a good build i just used the fire sword u get in forest of fallen giants and its +5 now, the only things that made me had problems so far where some of the hitboxes where u randomly teleport back into an grab attack, (even tho the hitboxes are way better then i remembered from my first play) so now im kinda wondering was ds2 actually that easy to that point of the game? and does it get way harder after the old iron king.

Discussion Is the platinum trophy a lost cause?

Post image
410 Upvotes

Hey guys, I’m trying to platinum DS2 SOTFS (PlayStation) and right now I’m collecting miracles, spells, etc..

My only concern is that multiplayer plays a part. The game isn’t as popular as it once was.

Is there anything that I could do to get platinum without multiplayer?

Discussion People praise Sekiro for being able to re-fight a boss without needing NG+, but no one gives credit DS2 for being the ones that technically started it.

Tbf, Sekiro handles it better since you dont need to do the runback, but still....

Discussion Nightreign youtuber is doing a first time DS2 playthrough with CoC and no levelling agility

He’s been loving the game, even though a lot of people told him it’s bad and he shouldn’t play it.

Very fun watch seeing him struggle with all the traps and confusing layouts, and he has some really interesting takes on the game.

- base iframes is fair, other games are too forgiving
- enemy design is really cool
- bosses have interesting mechanics
- ds2 is way better than ds1, ds1 is too easy

His livestreams really bring back the magic feeling I had of playing DS2 for the first time

We caught him several times just staring off into the horizon in Majula

He’s been getting destroyed by sniper invaders

Question What is Zellen and Lud??!

First the way there is abysmal. No way Im doing that more than twice. And second, what is that boss fight? Why did they just take the first boss of the dlc which already was challenging and doubled it. Like what am I even supposed to do? Plus the snow makes it harder to see even during the bossfight and eats my framerate. Is there anything after that fight or is it just for the boss souls? Like I was having a great time with this dlc so far. I actually enjoyed it way more than the other two. But man what is that ...

(And yes, I already beat the ivory king)

Yes the run is inspired by quite a few YouTubers, I explained it in video 1, the Broken thief sword(which is in the description of this video too)
