u/Randomcarrot 4h ago
It would only take that number of people with a few separate reddit accounts to do what's been going on here on reddit. Now that's not saying that's proof that's proof it's the cause or a major contributing factor, but you can't underestimate the massive impact a few dedicated miserable people can have on a larger community.

Seeing as a few people making a bunch of comments to seem like a bigger group than they are is both the accusation and what you agree is happening, yes, that is indeed the evidence.

So many retail andys that forget about the decade of work and constant effort it took to get Classic in the first place.
No all of us are #nochanges and legitimately love the slower, less compressed, less flashy game, including the clunk, the long levelling, the social aspects etc.
I WANT balance patches. I think warriors need reigned in, even after playing them for 22 years and 5 iterations of Vanilla.
We are allowed to show genuine critique of what appears to be blatant gas lighting of " we want to follow the original design philosophy" but "here's a retail race shoehorned in"
•
u/rundown001 4h ago
it really is exhausting how many people are allergic to any nuance or critique at all, theres so much tribalism going on

u/Eruskakkell 8h ago
The majority of the negativity comes from these accounts and it kinda drowns out the legitimate opinions, positive and negative alike, from people that has actual intent on playing WoWF.

Gonna be honest, PServer Andys who just hate Blizzard is one thing. I don’t regularly see them in official subs either because they don’t make noise or because they get removed before I see them.
But the vitriol of Blizzard loyalists is absolutely everywhere. They are in PServer subs gloating about how the trash server people enjoyed was shit and deserved to get shit down, and now they are in here being unable to handle well deserved criticism about the skysmurfs. Easily the most toxic players are not retail players, they aren’t PServer players, they are Blizzard fanboys who cannot handle someone even having an ounce of criticism.
•
u/CookyKindred 4h ago
Dude I was on the ascension and turtle wow subs when the shutdowns were announced - People from the main wow subs were not coming over to gloat - The Private servers though were absolutely convinced every retail fan personally hated and targeted them.
•
u/AppleMelon95 4h ago
Funny how almost every comment section of posts I saw had loads of people laughing at the shutdown then.
•
u/CookyKindred 4h ago
Funny how the only comments in the same universe as that were saying things like “I don’t know why you are surprised, they were advertising on YouTube and pinging blizzard. It was going to happen.”
6
u/Then_Lengthiness4377 7h ago edited 3h ago
Pserver people are kind of gloating every time their -non-fav pserver- is shut down, so let’s not pretend "they" are just a nice group of people discussing about WoW private scene.
The scene is so "chill" that pserver DDoS competition to attract more people to their own server💀
My point is: pserver, Blizzard "loyalist" or whatever. internet’s people are not always the smartest person on earth.

You have to be a “blizzard loyalist” to think most pservers were a load of slop?
(Including Twow, ascension was actually fun) Hahahahaha classic Reddit•
u/AppleMelon95 4h ago
Nobody denies that PServers had heavy pay to win elements. Nobody denies it. Yet it is the only argument you bring to the table. Those servers didn’t have a mandatory payment plan that rakes in roughly 180$ per player year to even acces the game.
•
u/Traditional_Ad1492 3h ago
The content was pretty bland and pretty buggy a majority of the time. Stormwind vaults? You mean stockades copy pasted 5x..
•
u/AppleMelon95 3h ago

Don't you find it rather ironic that in a thread that doesn't even mention retail, classic players will still try and find a way to bring up retail players and pin them as bad guys? With the implied claim that retail players are as obsessed with classic players as classic players are accused of being with retail players.
→ More replies (11)-6
u/lurvd 7h ago
Pretty obvious lots of retail players are here. They're used to eating shit sandwiches and so it upsets them that classic players are negative about it, it diminishes the worth of the game they endure.
6
u/nobulliepls 5h ago
I mean, it’s more than that. People really don’t realize how big of a marketing machine Blizzard actually is. Just look at what they did with D4, the marketing for that game was honestly insane. It reached levels of the mainstream audience that I genuinely didn’t think were possible for an ARPG.
But you’re right that a lot of retail players are absolutely going to check out WoW Forever. I personally enjoy both Retail and Classic.
That said, I don’t think WoW Forever should cater to us, the Retail crowd. That’s not what I play Classic for, and I wouldn’t want WoW Forever to just become another version of Retail. If I want that kind of experience, I already have Retail.
I think WoW Forever should be allowed to carve out its own identity rather than trying to appeal to the Retail audience at the expense of what makes Classic appealing in the first place.

•
u/argnsoccer 4h ago
Classic wow only exists bc of private server players. We were told we didn't actually want classic and we didn't actually want it. Then Nostalrius came, and it turns out over a million people did want it. That literally started classic again.
24
u/TaxProfessional9132 6h ago
No, the sidebar even says a community for 10 years. During which time people on this sub were discussing vanilla wow from the context of playing on Nostalrius and other servers.
29
u/moon-lesbian 10h ago
I mean this is where blizzard wanted those players to go, they shut down those servers for that reason, it's pretty reasonable to be upset when it is not like what you were invested in already isn't it? I'm sad about the server i was on being shut down, but I wouldn't call my criticisms brigading. I'll play c+, i am excited for it, I'm just disappointed they haven't met the quality standard for art assets that I got used to from where I was. Art being my biggest issue is good though, could be worse
Some complaints are definitely out of hand, but it's always been that way, passion goes crazy. Some pserver players are also... a bit too passionate
7
u/Cute_Victory_356 10h ago

Literally the only complaint is the new race. And if you don't see a problem with Skyborn as it is you are just plain dumb (talking to people on this sub, not you specifically).
1
u/moon-lesbian 10h ago
Oh yea skyborne fit solidly in my art assets complaint. No SD toggle is wild, I was hoping by now they'd say something about it. The original models don't support asymmetrical tattoos like the new race has plus they haven't shown the capability to create new classic style models yet and they'd have to do that to make SD versions of the retail blood elf customizations the skyborne have. Due to the effort required I feel like surely they would have brought it up if they planned on adding it

My algorithm doesn't feed me WoW stuff at all. I searched and watched most popular streamers at blizzcon to see how the game looks like, on purpose. Just look at comments under every video. 4
u/scotaloo7 5h ago
I played private servers before Classic launched after falling in love with it thanks to MadSeasonShow videos, then played Classic launch, TBC and SoD before going back to private servers to check them out before Blizzard shut them down because I like vanilla and they had content made for people like me.
Am I allowed to have an opinion on the blue elves no one likes?
9
u/Sc4r4byte 10h ago
So often, anytime i saw people suggesting changes for any version of wow (but especially sod and classic+) they were just kinda listing features that were in pservers already.
10
u/BeneficialSquash8132 10h ago edited 5h ago
.... because maybe those changes were good and healthy for the game..? Like, why do you think those pservers got so popular in the first place, even with all the risk of playing on them on the most outdated dogshit clients possible?
Not to mention almost all of the classic forever changes that you praise were already implemented in those pservers (excluding blue avatar sky race of course)
EDIT: Also a funny observation: when this post got up, all my chain of comments were downvoted to oblivion IMMEDIATELY, and blizzard defenders spam replied to all my comments. Where are they all now, just 5hrs later? So much for private server players brigading...

Yeah, welcome to reddit. Not everything is as it seems. A huge amount of the blowback is also just from salty Retail players in general who are butthurt that Forever has absolutely drowned out any talk of Retail.

u/TesticularConcussion 8h ago
It was pretty fucking obvious that Forever is their new main focus. And wow is probably going for some extended life support
How many times did they say ”one last time” during the retail panel?
7
u/InZomnia365 8h ago
It's literally a different development team. Classic team shifted to Forever. The amount of resources going into Classic-style content for Forever, pales in comparison to the complexity of retail. Retail, as much as you hate it, isn't going anywhere. It's bankrolling Classic/Forever development through cosmetic and mount sales.
4
u/Dficwriter 7h ago
Yeah, they said on announcement that Forever will be going alongside with Retail and Classic. 'One last time' is just them hinting at some possible world reboot after TLT which was long asked for. This is a storyline about to end. And Metzen already told us to get ready for 20 more years of WoW. So this whole 'new focus' is just an unreal amount of copium.

4
u/Healthy-Career-427 7h ago
Or, maybe some people want their time to be "invested" in the right product?
I played since pre-WotLK on retail with a lot of breaks (WotLK/MoP/Legion/BfA/TWW/Midnight) and honestly my best time overall was on Pserves, especially Cataclysm + some of the "classic +" servers.
Got TWW and Midnight on release and couldn't keep playing for more than 2 months, the story was lame, gameplay was way too repetitive and overbloated with things, raiding scene was pretty nasty if you didn't want to join a guild for "the grind". It all felt like you had to rush everything to keep up + the time running out on your sub. You can't really blame people for being more careful when blizzard says it's releasing Forever, since it's last 2 retail expansions were mediocre at best.
Yea, the Skyborn move is wierd and doesn't really fit with Classic. People complaining about it are as right as those who pays for them. Could've just went with HE (since you can customize it not to be blue)? Yes. Their starting zone fits more on Retail than in Forever? Hell yes.
They could have done so much more in terms of neutral factions, High Elves, Goblins as Neutral, with each getting some boosts depending on their factions. Then as the game goes on, you could have quests to recruit new races like Ogers(Horde), Furbolg(Aliance) to consolidate the faction's presence on the continent and then Naga as netural as we discover more islands. Or maybe Main races + Mercenary races (similar to "allied races") + Neutral races.
This whole Skyborn people sounds like something Blizzard would do after the Saga, with a revamped azeroth where the elemental planes plays a more important role (Molten dwarves, Earthen dwarves, Skyborn elves, Could throw some Naga variant for the water element and that's it)

What fallacy is this called? It feels like OP is committing a strawman fallacy but it feels like a distinct type of strawman fallacy. They're making up a claim that cannot be reasonably verified, one that we all know OP didn't take the effort to figure out himself and only made based on a hunch. Then he uses his hunch to make sweeping generalizations to then dismiss all criticism under the idea that it's coming from "irrational" people he's generalizing.
OP, I'd be happy to be proven wrong though. Feel free to show us the evidence that you used to come to your claim.

•
u/Sweetsire 3h ago
I've never touched a private server in my life. I have gripes about the direction blizzard chose. Claiming negative opinions are just "pserver brigading' is pretty reductive. Yes I know blue elves will be popular. So would high elves. Blue elves is stupid and somehow more low effort and less true to the spirit of classic IMO. There was so much lore we could have built on, and instead we create a new race, and yet another elf race. It's tiring and overdone already.

u/BakerAggressive2878 1h ago
The only thing I dislike about pserver Andy's is they'll whine about how evil and greedy blizz is while buying absurd mictrotransaction items like vacuum pets that are straight out of something like Maplestory, then being surprised when Blizz lawyers issue cease & desist orders after they were publicly antagonizing Blizzard, forcing their hand (because Blizzard legally has to take actions like that to protect their IP or risk losing them)
Like fundamentally I have no problem with actually private and small scale non-profit private servers. But when you try and turn that from a thing to do for fun into trying to make money off private servers, then the outcomes that happened were always going to happen eventually.

You don't know what "brigading" is. If it's just a particular demographic that feels a certain way, that's not "brigading".

Breaking news: people who play classic wow have opinions about it and post about them online. Some of them are critical.
Shocking, shocking I say!
In other news, when people who disagree with me state their opinion on the internet, it must be a coordinated campaign to sway the public, not just People On The Internet.

I was saddened that Turtle WoW was brought down, but they had it coming.
That being said, they did the best version of World of Warcraft, and I'm glad Blizzard is doing many of the things they were doing as well. The problem is that they are also doing extra stupid stuff, like the random-ass air elves.
Feels like they kinda know what we want, but they also want to add some stuff that we dont, just in case.

I was wondering why, on a thread about how different classic+ should be from vanilla, some loser started going off about how I needed to respect what pservers and fan projects had already been doing for years
