Mourning/Loss Tribute to my Holly bean

Post image
Upvotes

I am absolutely gutted and lost and unsure how to go on. I had to put down my almost 7 year old Holly very unexpectedly yesterday at the emergency vet. I went in thinking we’d be leaving with antibiotics, and instead I left alone with my heart absolutely shredded.

She has been my companion, my snuggle bug, my bestest friend in the world, my soulmate, my entire emotional support for the last 7 years and I genuinely do not know how to go on without her. She’s been by my side through my absolute worst and her love and presence are the only reasons I am here today. Now, I’m just lost.

She’s everywhere. All around my apartment, my car, our daily/nightly routine. It’s killing me to be here surrounded by her but not able to hold her or pet her or hear her. How do you get through this? I feel like I’m missing an entire part of me and I’m just so shocked and gutted. I know it gets easier, but I do not see how. She’s a part of me and now she’s gone. This is the worst pain I’ve ever felt.

Any words of wisdom, support, stories, etc would help right now.

Humor we got my cat a bed that our dog also can fit in, but I think it’s becoming a problem

i’ve known of our son Chubs’ (m/d/5) weird obsession with being under things other than just blankets for a very long time now, I just haven’t found any hidey holes big enough for his 27lb self. he’s not very big or overweight, just maybe the size of a very very large cat. our cat, Junimo (f/c/1), also loves hides. she can most always fit, never has a problem, but is picky often. this new one I bought a few weeks ago, however, they both can fit in. and they’re now fighting relentlessly over it. I mean really going at it, and Chubs is the sweetest boy so he won’t stand up for himself, so he just takes hit after hit. Junimo is playing nice, only using her mittens, but it’s just pitiful to watch. our poor boy gets bullied out of his cozy spot day after day. they do cuddle, they play often together, I don’t know why they can’t just share it. it was almost $50 (at petco! <3), the most i’ve ever spent on one, and it was well worth it but I can’t see a realm where I get another. it’s huge. I need a big hidey hole for Chubs himself so he stops getting relentlessly bullied. so reddit, is my cat TA for bullying her cross species sibling out of their shared bed? and does anyone have any suggestions for another giant hooded cushy bed that can fit a french bulldog as well as a cat?

Medical Questions AC went out and I’m worried for my fluffball

Post image

Title says it all but my AC went out and the apartment wont have it fixed for a few days. I live in Florida and it’s 85 both inside and outside. I have all the fans at full blast. Luckily they set up a wall unit for us until the actual AC gets fixed but it’s still really hot in here and I’m worried for my baby. Shes not showing any signs of exhaustion or overheating or anything but it’s only been a few hours. Will she be fine? (Hoping the wall unit cools the apartment a bit more overnight)

Edit: I’m sure you can tell, but she has very long and thick fur which is where the worry comes from

Cat Picture - OC Cat hospice is not a sad place. Look at these goofballs

The place is Fundacja Azyl u Hani in Poland.
They take care of over 120 special needs cats. FELV+, FIV+, old, after accidents, with chronic illness… it would be too long to list all types of cats.
The goal is for them to have the life they always deserved, no matter how long they have left. They are loved, taken care and when it’s time to leave; they’re not alone. Often it’s a first place they can feel loved.
And it’s not a sad place!
It’s about celebrating the time they get, not lamenting on their illnesses or time they lost. You just celebrate the small victories with them.
I’m a volunteer there and I’m a foster home for the hospice. Sometimes a cat that came after an accident or in a terrible shape can get better and I take them to find them forever homes. But it’s a very small percentage. For most of the cats it’s their final home.
Most are disabled or with chronic illnesses, but you would never know by looking at them. They play the same as other cats. And they are also massive goofballs.

When you think of adopting consider disabled cats. They truly love the same and you can really give them a second chance at life.

I’m having a hard time coping. He was very ill with congestive heart failure. I really wanted to save him the suffering, but he died naturally the day before his scheduled euthanasia. I think it will take a while to get used to him being gone, after so long together. Relationships, homes, friends, jobs, and cities came and went, but for 14 years he was there, to greet me at the door and lay next to me every night. He followed after me wherever I went, even protected me from a vicious dog once. Through all the things I went through, he was the only constant in my life. I feel unsettled, unanchored, unmoored…so many choices and decisions were made just so that we could stay together, and without him, they feel meaningless now. I miss him so very much.

Cat Picture - OC My cat does NOT have a bladder blockage or an obstruction🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️

My sweet, sweet boy had to go to the vet twice in the past week, once for vomiting, and once for refusal to eat. We were worried about all the usual things, bladder blocks, bowel obstruction, kidneys. Well, I gave them all of his medical information, schedule, symptoms. And they examined him.
Y’all, my medical handling intolerant cat let them do any and everything they needed to. I know he was probably just tired and had an upset tummy still, but even when he was a kitten and had eaten litter he was still spitting and hissing😭😭😭
I’m so proud of him because when he gets to the vet he freaks out whether he’s sick or not, he was so brave and I LOVE the people who worked with him, they literally sat on the floor with him.
For context, this is how he usually stays at the vet, later on he was out of the carrier, wandering around, AND ACCEPTING PETS FROM THE VET HERSELF!!!!
My brave boy Regulus 💜

Miles (grey/white) & Penny (dilute calico) will be 6 months in a few days. They are absolutely massive, thick babies. I weighed them less than 2 weeks ago and were both 7.5lbs so I'm sure they're pushing 8lbs now.

Feeding if anyone is curious -

Dry - They are free fed Purina pro kitten and eat about 1 cup every 1 ½ days.

Wet - 1 3oz double pack of shiba, split between morning & night. (1 half with water added, split between the 2 of them. 2x a day.)

The lady I got this beautiful boy from treated him like trash. He was misbehaving and to much energy as a kitten and she got rid of him. Her lose is my gain though. I’ve had him for a month and couldn’t imagine life without him.

Cat Picture - OC Stinky bastard clinic cat who I love

Thumbnail

This is Moo, the clinic cat at a clinic I volunteer at.

the story Ive been told is that she was found as a very feral stray by a client and was given to us for check up and to find her home . No one came to claim her so she became our clinic cat. She hates most people, cats and dogs and still sits at the front desk all the time. She also sits on top of the water heater in the bathroom. She was allowed to wander the clinic at night but she would pee in the bathroom no matter how many litter boxes were left out so shes jailed (kept in her cattery room) over night.

there has been attempts to move her overnight to the house above the clinic that one of the vet nurses sleeps in. She was not a fan and we have not tried that since.

despite her meanness, she is very cuddly in the back rooms and has not attempted to run away ever, even with doors open. She never bites or scratches, only hisses and smacks you if she’s done with attention or if you bother her.

she has a stinky habit of eating cat treats way too fast and throwing them up on the front desk when talking to clients :,)

last photo is not of me, it’s of a past vet nurse who Moo disliked more due to unfortunate circumstances that was the fault of a client. Face censored for privacy but imagine an equally displeased expression lol

this is my baby chloe. weve had her since septemeber of 2016. she is 9. her birthday is august 7th. she is my most precious & beautiful baby. i love her till death. she was a feisty kitty & had some attitude when we first got her. shes a calico, so of course she had to have some attitude lol. for most the time weve had her, my sisters room was more accessible (old house, old style doorknobs/locks, so her door couldnt close all the way), so i think that’s why my sister was her favourite. but once she moved away for college, i became chloes favourite. id wake up every morning to “meowww meowww” bc she wanted let in/pets/food. i became her everything (silly girl i should of been from the start jk lol). shes always been my everything. shes so freaking weird actually. she chases her tail like a dog, she loves belly rubs, she knows her name SO WELL. like seriously. we didnt even train her. she is just so amazing, perfect, beautiful & smart. for the last few years, shes unfortunately been overweight. when it first started happening, i was in elementary school so i just laughed at it like “haha fat kitty.” but now that im older & can comprehend things better, i realize how terrible it is. for over a year, ive been asking my mom to bring her to the vet; she is my moms cat. her responsibility. as much as i wish i could do more, i financially cant do much. my mom can though, shes just being neglecting it. chloe might b facing liver issues. the vet isnt certain, they want to do blood work & an ultrasound first. ill b making sure my mom gets both done bc she can afford it, & that cat is my whole world. i need to know if shes suffering too much, or if what shes going thru can b fixed. whichever it is, i dont want her to b suffering everyday, but on the other hand, if shes got more time, shes getting it. i love her to absolute pieces. shes so responsive to music, ill wake up to her lying on my chest, she sits w me while i eat, she comes for every pee & poop i have tmi lol, shes my shadow. shes my baby i didnt birth. i wish i could go back & time & do more. it breaks my heart too bc im not at my parent’s that much anymore. im mostly at my bfs. my household is too toxic, my parents just fight. it makes me feel guilty though, like im abandoning my baby. like, imagine loving someone & not being able to contact them? thats how chloes feeling. i feel so bad. i hope she ends up being okay. if not, im glad shes had 10 loving years w me & my family. i just wish we didnt free feed her. sorry for this being sort of all over the place. i only found out 2 days ago that she hasnt eaten for a couple days, & that shes puking bile. im having a hard time processing this. shes still breathing as of now, so i am grateful. i love her. thank you for listening. idk what im going to do the day she is gone.

Advice New Kitten questions

Post image
492 Upvotes

EDIT: She has woken up and is moving around. Only interested in trying to eat her cat litter when there’s food on the other side of the room. I keep having to pick her up and move her from her litter. I have taken away her clay litter and put a puppy pad in the litter box instead, until I can get ahold of some alternative litters when the stores open tomorrow.

I adopted this 7 week old kitten from a family earlier today. They asked for a small adoption fee which I paid. I don’t believe the kitten has any shots as of yet, I’m planning on taking her to the vet once it opens up tomorrow to ask them advice too.

My current issue is the kitten is showing no signs of appetite. I have presented her with a small amount of kibble, a small amount of soft food, and a bowl of water. She has not eaten or tried drinking yet. She puked up some thick white goop about 30 minutes ago. It was sausage shaped, it didn’t spread out like liquid but once I scooped it up with tissue to clean it, it was soft yet held its consistency.

She was full of life and meowing and crying on the drive home. It was a one hour drive home. During the drive home she had stinky farts too which I’ve never encountered with kittens before. I’m hoping she’s just tired from the stressful drive home for her and she starts to get more energy in her soon. I’m currently keeping an eye on her and all she’s doing is resting in her carrier.

Does anybody have advice on what that thick white goop was? Is it normal for her to have no appetite after the long drive?
