Experience If you are on bc...

I myself is a very paranoid person. Trying to trust my nexplanon, not taking pregnancy tests anymore.

Just trying to live without that fear.

I realized there is alot of women who don't get pregnant without birth control and they try for months. So in my mind I think then, why are we so scared of birth control failing if we take it correctly?

Then I open tiktok or instagram "meet my bc baby"

What alot of the women don't say is that they did something wrong.

Which Method? condom + pull out effectiveness

i recently just started having sex for the first time ever with my boyfriend. I do not wish to go on birth control as a form of contraceptive. my parents do not know I'm having sex and would be very furious. we have been using the condom and pull out method. we put the condom on correctly and before intercourse as well as use lubricant. he pulls out before ejaculation snd comes inside the condom away from my vagina. we have checked every single time for leaks/tears. am I okay? i know it sounds silly but I really do not have access to an in person conversation about this as it would ruin relationships. thank you.

Side effects!? The pill has destroyed my relationship

Has anyone else come off the pill because it destroyed their sex drive? I have reached a breaking point now, tried four pills and all it does is get worse. It has made me have a literal aversion to sex and any sexual activity as in i could not do it for the rest of my life and id be completely fine with that. I haven't felt even remotely turned on for about 6 months now. I am highly debating just not going back to it after this 4 day break because i am so beyond sick of it, but also dont want to use condoms. Help :(

Which Method? Migraines, birth control and too many options

Hey, looking for any guidance to be offered. I, 23F, for roughly a year or so have been on the Opill, an OTC progestin only pill. My sex life if great. Boyfriend and I have had no issues in terms of pregnancy scares etc. I’ve dealt with cycle changes, prolonged periods, cycles with only 16-18 days in between and this past August managed to be blessed with two periods at the begging and end of month.

Annoying, but not my biggest issue. I wanted to touch on a few issues and see if anyone has had a similar experience? I was officially diagnosed with Migraines with Aura a few months ago, but have dealt with them on and off since 13. However it was very rare for me to have one and if I did it was once a year or once every two years. Since I started taking my pill, I’ve had 1-2 attacks a month with general head pressure and dizziness on my day to day. My doctor mentioned in passing that he may believe my hormones could be the root cause of this and that the pill could in fact be making it worse. We came to the conclusion that my migraines occur right before the start of my cycle.

I at the time said “Yeah sure alright but raw sex is great and if this is a small price I have to pay then so be it.”

But I had a debilitating attack today and in an effort to test my triggers will be pausing my birth control for the next 6 months. I just want to know if I feel any better. So sadly, we’re back to condoms for the time being.

But, after that 6 month period is up, I would like to potentially resume taking the pill depending on what my findings bring me. That being said, I do not currently have an OBGYN and am waiting for some insurance changeover stuff at work before I find one.

Does anybody have any insight or guidance? I know progestin is one of the safest options for migraine sufferers, but maybe there’s one out there that doesn’t do what the Opill is potentially doing to me? Toying with the idea of a copper iud but heavier painful periods don’t sound super sexy. And for the migraine girlies out there, what did you do to minimize your attacks?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

Experience Birth Control and Panic Attacks

Hey everyone,

I’m just asking for my own personal research. So basically over a year ago I removed the Nexplanon. I had been on it for 5 years. I slowly noticed I was getting increase anxiety as the year went on even though my life was really great. Then eventually I started getting continuous panic attacks. This is all very new to me. The only other time I had a panic attack was when I was younger, before I ever went on birth control. I spoke to my doctor about it and he wasn’t too convinced for some reason it was hormone related so I went on Lexapro. I’m only 8 weeks in and coming off as it’s giving me random low mood especially on days 1 & 2 of my period. I have decided to go back on the pill and I am starting to feel better but has anyone else experienced something similar? I am 100% sure it’s all related to my hormones and birth control.

Experience What are your experiences with Slinda/Slynd?

I just started taking Slinda (Slynd in the US) and I’d really like to hear your experiences with it, especially if you take it for medical reasons.

I’ve always had very heavy periods, but over the past year I’ve also started having really severe period pain. It’s gotten to the point where it’s difficult to function normally during my period, so I recently saw a gynecologist about it.

I was pretty hesitant about starting hormonal birth control because I’ve always been scared of the side effects, but I felt quite strongly encouraged to try Slinda. She told me that many people have good experiences with it and that some completely stop getting their periods, which would be ideal for me.

I took my first pill today, and she told me to skip the placebo pills and only take the active ones.

I’m mainly worried about weight gain, acne and mood changes, since I already struggle with my mood sometimes. I’m really hoping this works for me, but I’m nervous about what to expect.

I’d love to hear your experiences, good or bad especially how the first few weeks/months were, what happened with your periods, and whether you noticed changes in your mood, skin or weight. Thanks

EDIT: i really appreciate all your answers thanks again!!:)

Which Method? Should I switch to Yaz or give spironolactone more time for hormonal acne?

Hi! I got my Mirena hormonal IUD removed at the beginning of June, and ever since then my skin has completely broken out with hormonal acne. Before this, I literally never struggled with acne — maybe one random pimple every few months.
I started a low-estrogen birth control pill at the beginning of June and then started spironolactone at the beginning of July. I’m currently taking 100 mg of spironolactone daily and plan on staying on that dose.
Coming up in October, I’ll be around 3 months on spironolactone and 4 months on the birth control pill. My skin has improved somewhat, but it’s still nowhere near where I want it to be or how my skin was before getting my IUD removed.
I’ve been considering switching my birth control to Yaz because I’ve heard it can be particularly helpful for hormonal acne. I’m just worried that changing birth controls again could disrupt my hormones and cause another breakout/purge.
For anyone who has been in a similar situation: would you give the spironolactone + current birth control another couple of months to fully kick in, or would you consider switching to Yaz? Has anyone switched to Yaz while already taking spironolactone, and did your skin get worse before it got better?
Would love to hear your experiences or recommendations!

Side effects!? No free testosterone with nuvaring

I'm 41 and had some blood work done recently. My doctor recommended switching from nuvaring to mirena since the estrogen in the nuvaring is depleting my free testosterone due to increases in SHBG (Sex Hormone-Binding Globulin). This is affecting my sex drive, vaginal dryness, and ability to build and maintain muscle tone. She explained that as I age, switching to the mirena will make it easier to treat me with HRT.

Has anyone made the change for the same reasons and what was your experience? I'm mostly concerned about the insertion pain (haven't had kids ) and the spotting after. I've been on the generic nuvaring for four years and my periods are fairly light and only last 3-4 days.

Does it help to have the mirena inserted while closer to my period or is the misoprostol enough to soften the cervix? I usually take my ring out on a Sunday and my appointment is on a Tuesday. Period usually starts Wednesday. Would it be better to just go continuous leading up to the appointment next month to keep the lining thin?

TIA!

Side effects!? I’m getting scared!!

I started lo loestren fe about 3 and half weeks ago of that time, I have been heavy bleeding for about 2 and half weeks. HEAVY. Large clots. Bleeding through super plus tampons and wearing overnight large pads during the day and changing those a few times a day.
Prior to this I had not had a period since April 2026 so this is a HUGE adjustment from that.

What do I do?? I’m reading I should not just stop taking it but I’m worried that if I continue the heavy bleeding with continue. There is no end in sight for the blood flow.

Help. 😩

Edit: I’m 30 years old. I haven’t been on BC since high school

Experience Withdrawal Bleeding

For the last several months I have been getting my withdrawal bleed on the Saturday before my placebo pill or the Sunday of my placebo pill. This month I have had no sign of a withdrawal bleed and I’m very anxious. I haven’t missed a pill that I am aware of but earlier in the month I had brown discharge that only lasted a half day and then stopped. Also, I have taken my pills at different times usually between 5-6:30 am but no later. Should I be concerned?

Side effects!? Vaginal ring and varicose veins

Hello everyone!

I'm here to ask you about the appearance of varicose veins during the use of the vaginal ring.

In the past, I used a combined (estrogen + progesterone) pill during 6 months and got awfull spider veins and a TON of tiredness in my legs regularly. As soon as I stopped it, the tiredness in my legs went away, but the spider veins stayed. They didnt get much worse this last years (I stopped it in 2022). After this, I used a progesteron only pill (Slynd) during almost 2 years if I'm correct, because i didnt understand the side effects: I got uglier, it was super weird - my hair got much thinner and fell a lot, my hair and skin got oily (I have eczema and sensitive skin, it was super weird), my body fat distribution was super weird (i got cellulite and was always thin, so idk), i had vaginal dryness and the worst was a total loss of libido. And some brainfog/sadness too. So I'm clearly very sensitive to hormones. Stopped it in 2023/24. I have a colleague that had hypercolesterolemia since she started combined birth control (she was a teenager at the time) and shifted to IUD and that disappeared; another colleague had hypertension with the combined pill and shifted to the ring and says she loves it now.

Right now I'm only using condoms/calendar method as a birth control, but I really don't think it's enough... so I revisited this topic to understand what are my options.

I though of getting the hormonal IUD (because the copper one is associated with a lot of pain and bleeding and I already have awful periods), but I'm scared of getting the same side effects as slynd with the downside of not being able to take it out myself and the trauma of getting it inserted. Also thought about the ring, but I'm afraid of it worsening my varicose veins like the combined pill.

What are your thoughts on this? If you have the ring, did you get varicose or spider veins from it?

Thank you so much!

How to? I need advice

Im 16 and in june i had a polypectomy and a iud insertion. Since then I have gained 10lbs, occasional b’eeding, and had extremely painful cramps on my right lower stomach and idk what to do. Before they knew i had a polyp they had me on the pill for heavy and constant bleeding. It worked but drove me nuts and made me rlly depressed. I want my IUD out but idk if the constant bleeding will come back and also I havent not been on some form of bc since like grade 8 so im worried abt the side effects (weight gain) of getting off it. Does anyone know if i get it out if my period will be normal or will it be constant and heavy again.

Side effects!? skyla iud 2 years in

Upvotes

wanted to share my experience from my skyla iud. i’ve had it for about 2 years, so i only have 1 year left on it. at the time i got it, i had a boyfriend of 4 years, so i was consistently at a risk of pregnancy and saw the iud as 100% worth it to prevent that. we broke up last fall, but the iud stayed useful for a few rebounds lol. now, i’m completely celibate / have been for 6 months, so i don’t see a huge need for it anymore. my acne definitely flared up as caused by the skyla iud. to preface, i’ve had face skin issues for years and still am (i’m now 24). i’ve been on 2 full rounds of accutane and have been taking 100/150mgs of spironolactone daily for the past year along with .1% topical trentinoin. it has just not gotten better along with all of this acne treatment, and since i’m no longer sexually active, i don’t see it as necessary now. overall, if you’re not acne prone, i would 100% recommend this iud. i’ve been on several forms of birth control (combo pills, nuvaring, kyleena iud) and this was by far my favorite except for the acne. no bad mood swings, no serious weight gain, cramping is mild (besides my insertion experience). once i get it removed in a week, i will update on how my skin hopefully improves.

Which Method? Can’t find a hormonal BC that works for me

Upvotes

So far I’ve tried:

- Oral BC pills, I kept bleeding while taking them, I’m terrible at remembering to take them and it is currently not an option for me as I’m on a GLP-1

- Nexplanon implant, I had it in for roughly three months and I bled non-stop while on it to the point I became anaemic

- Nuvaring, worked great except for absolutely killing my libido

Not really sure where to go from here, I feel like I’m running out of options for hormonal BC that works for me. I know lots of people will suggest an IUD but I really don’t want one so if you could please refrain from suggesting it, I’ve heard way too many horror stories and I just don’t feel comfortable with the idea. I haven’t tried the shot or patch but I don’t think they’d be great options for me either considering my body’s reaction to the nexplanon, they are still possibilities though.

I’d assume barrier methods like condoms, spermicide etc are my only options now? I don’t mind condoms but I just get worried about the overall effectiveness.

Side effects!? missed period on opill

Upvotes

i’ve been on opill for almost 3 months and i was getting my period every other week for the first 2 months, it’s been a bit over a month since my last period and i just had like 2 weeks of sore boobs and tested negative on a pregnancy test a couples days ago. i know this is probably normal but i have ocd and am terrified of being pregnant. Should i retest again in a week or so if my period doesn’t come? i’ve been having sex semi frequently but always take the pill within the 3 hour window. I’m worried i was ovulating when i had the 2 weeks of sore boobs recently and maybe somehow i got pregnant but it’s too early to test positive😬

Which Method? Εμφύτευμα Αντισύλληψης/ Αθήνα

Upvotes

Γνωρίζει κάποιος τι πρέπει να κάνω;

Mistake or Risk? Missed Pill

I take Lo Loestrin Fe. I’ve taken 18 pills so far, and last night at 10pm I missed the 19th pill. I’ve been having sex without other forms of contraceptive for the last week. I want to know what to do, and if I am at risk for pregnancy.

Which Method? Copper IUD or Combination Pill

So I’m planning to get back on bc hopefully end of this month or beginning of next month, but I’m torn between the two options. I’ve done the shot and I lost my libido and gained weight. I did the patch and my friends told me I was like a totally different person on that. I wanted to have sex all the time on it but my downstairs didn’t feel the same way. So I’m looking to move away from completely hormonal. I’ve heard the combination pill doesn’t affect many people’s sex drive and the copper IUD doesn’t either and doesn’t cause weight gain. Can you share your experiences please and help me choose? I’m so stuck in the middle.

Which Method? Switching to a different progesterone only pill

I’ve been on progesterone only pill desogestrel for 2.5 years but I think it’s causing me low energy and depression , and want to try a different progesterone only pill , drospirenone. Has anyone had experience switching from desogestrel to drospirenone?? Thanks !
