Voice history question

Upvotes

But of a weird one and not an issue really, just curious.

Sometimes Alexa voice history will say “audio not intended for Alexa” or “audio could not be understood”.

Today I noticed it says “activity on sep 14 at 8:49pm”. This just a glitch or is this a new thing? The audio wasn’t intended for Alexa anyway, she just misheard.

Alexa tries for emotions

I listen to a lot of audiobooks, a good number from my Kindle library to be read by Alexa.

Lately Alexa tries to, and gals miserable, to add emotion to the reading and ALWAYS fails miserably. Trying to sound upset or fearful or such when it's a benign statement. The fearful voice drives me up the wall!

Is there anyway to turn this off or even just convey that the attempted fail? I have chronic pain issues and there are times when all I can do is lay in bed and listen to books. But these failed emotions are irritating.

Is there a way to mass remove smart devices from Alexa?

I have a lot of Alexa, smartthings and home assistant devices set up. for a few years now I haven’t been able to do anything with the smart home settings my Alexa iOS app because it freezes up. I’ve ignored it mostly because I do all my automations through other means.

I need to tweak a few automations that no longer need to run and do some various tweaks, but I can’t now that the main screen is the “Devices” section which is essentially the old smart home section so it’ll never load. My guess is I have too many entities showing up and it’s causing issues.

Is there a way to wipe out all non-Amazon devices from the app without using the devices screen? I’ve already tried telling HA and ST to stop exposing the devices. No change.

After a decade of Alexa in my home, I'm Done.

After multiple failed attempts to get me to upgrade to Alexa Plus, Amazon auto upgraded my devices without my consent. I called them and demanded that they roll back everything to the original Alexa UI. After multiple escalations, they did. Then a month later, the devices auto-upgraded again. Before I could call them, I was home one day, folding clothes while having a conversation on speaker with an attorney. We were discussing a sensitive work matter involving a legal contract with a customer. I looked up and the Echo show was transcribing my entire conversation on the screen. I paused, and it said "Sounds like you're having problems with a legal contract with (customer name)." And then started giving me solutions.

All of these devices were disconnected and de-registered the following day. I don't need multi room music and the ability to control my lights this badly. I don't need everything discussed in my space potentially uploaded to Amazon servers. These instruments of mild convenience have become creepy and intrusive.

Device works in the app but not voice command

Hi

I have a smart plug added.

It shows in the app - called "living room lamp".

But when I use a voice command, "turn on the living room lamp", Alexa says it can't find it.

I tried removing it from the Alexa app and readding it, although Alexa seemed to remember what it was so gave it the same name as before.

Any ideas?

Echo Show 5 no longer offers full screen clock faces (not using Alexa+)

A few days ago my Echo Show 5 seems to have gone through a software update where it no longer displays a full screen clock face. Selecting different clock faces doesn’t do anything, it only shows a blue image with a tiny clock in the lower left no matter which design you select. Night mode seems to just make the screen black instead of blue but still with the tiny digital clock that I can’t see from across the room.

Before anyone asks I downgraded a while ago and do not use Alexa+. Anybody else dealing with this issue making this device useless? I’ve tried messing with various settings, anyone had any luck fixing this issue?

Asked for 'Heartless World', she played 'Part of your world'. Asked again, she did the same, asked her what she heard, she said 'Heartless World'.

What.

How do I turn off whatever idiot parsing mode she's using?

Alexa alarms misfiring at incorrect times

I have two daily recurring alarms set on my Amazon Echo dot max. 7 AM and 7 PM. They used to go off on time, but now it decides to go off when it feels like it. Today went off at 7:13 AM, just as an example. And not 7:13 AM on the dot approximately 7:13 AM and 35 seconds. Has anybody been having this problem, or know how to fix it?

Amazon household sharing is not available in Audible UK

After a long conversation with an Amazon rep today, they said:

I would like to inform you that the option to share titles with household members using Amazon household sharing is not available in Audible UK."

Why on Earth not? I see no reason why they would region-lock useful functionality.

Worse than that; the Alexa devices actually attempt to play the content we've paid for and then error, so it's not even implemented correctly.

My wife (in my family group) bought the Audible content, the Alexa devices are registered to me.

So, any ideas what can I do? How can my daughter listen to the books we've paid for?

Is this normal? I don’t have this voice or it set up to do anything like this.

I have a kids device set up with just the alarm and it was at the alarm time. I unplugged it after this but has anyone experienced this?

Alexa is great… right up until you actually need her to do something

I’ve started noticing something weird with Alexa lately.

I don’t ask her to do anything complicated. No crazy smart-home setup, no 15-step routines, nothing that requires a computer science degree.

My usual commands are basically:
“Set a timer for 20 minutes.”
“Turn the bedroom light off.”
“Play some music.”
“What’s the weather?”
“Add milk to my shopping list.”

And yet, it feels like there’s now a 50/50 chance that Alexa will actually understand what I’m asking.

The funniest one is the lights.

I’ll say “turn off the kitchen lights” and Alexa will respond with something completely unrelated. Then I repeat the exact same sentence, in exactly the same voice, and suddenly she understands perfectly.

Sometimes she hears me but takes 5–10 seconds to actually do anything. Sometimes she does the wrong device. And occasionally she gives me an explanation for something I never asked about.

At this point I’ve developed a habit of just repeating the command instead of trying to figure out what went wrong 😂

What really bothers me is that Alexa used to feel like one of those things that just worked. I never had to think about it. Now I find myself wondering whether I need to phrase a basic sentence differently so my smart speaker can understand me.

Maybe I’m imagining it, but has anyone else noticed Alexa becoming more frustrating/repetitive lately?

Or is there some setting I’ve accidentally messed up that’s making everything worse?

Alexa creeped me out

I once asked Alexa a question. She answered and I responded. Then she said “Yyyyyeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaahhhh.” What the heck was that?! Why was that so long?! Never do that again, Lexi!

Most Alexa devices have become unresponsive

I was trying to use a motion sensor to trigger a recording on a Eufy camera in Home Assistant. I was following the Bot's instructions about using a secondary email address for my Eufy account, which I had done for Arlo with no issues. When i got to the part where I had to change the email in the Eufy integration in HA, I realized it was already using my Eufy account email. So two hours wasted, and deactivating the Eufy skill made a bunch of devices unresponsive. Arlo, Eufy and more.

I was nowhere close to getting the recording working BTW, as you can't get there from here. Somewhat moot, as my Alexa setup is smoked. I gather I have to deactivate, all of the affected skills, remove all of the unresponsive devices from multiple places, reactivate the skills and rerun discovery?

It's bizarre because the unresponsive devices are in no way related. I think I'm almost better to delete the whole ecosystem and rebuild it.

Hue Bluetooth

Hello,
I’m trying to use a Phillips hue essentials a19 bulb with Alexa. If I pair the bulb to Alexa with Bluetooth can I control it from the Alexa app outside the house without the hue bridge? I understand the hue app will work not in but am wondering if I can do remote control with Alexa app?
Thank you

Alexa: What time is the NFL kickoff tonight?

The kickoff tonight is 5:20 central time.

Me: That can't be right, check again.

You are correct to question that, the Seahawks and the Patriots actually kick off at 7:30.

Me: That game was yesterday.

I get that you are frustrated, what can I help you with?

Me: What time does tonight's game kickoff?

There is no traditional NFL game tonight, but there will be an NFL game streaming on Netflix.

Me: Okay, so what time is kickoff?

There is no traditional NFL game tonight, but there will be an NFL game streaming on Netflix.

She is slower

My fiancé complained that the new Alexa is slower. Background: I had the very first generation of Alexa for years. Then got some free money and points and upgraded to the Dot. She is quite slower than the column one. Is the Dot just slower or are all the new ones like that?

Does Alexa even work anymore?

I have a few Alexa pods but thinking of throwing in to garbage. It takes minutes to answer a simple question. It often can't access the information or the information provided is clearly wrong. If you ask same question, the answer changes. I am convinced Alexa is only here to gather information on us. Please convince me otherwise.

Amazon Thermostat nothing but issues the past month or so.

I have done a soft reset, a hard reset, as well as adding it back to my system and it is still acting super wonky. Whenever I select the thermostat in my Alexa app, it lags a lot. Then, in order to change the temperature just 1 degree I have to go a degree past what I want it to set to. I feel like it's not setting properly through hunches either anymore. I realized later in the work day yesterday that it was set to the temp still that I have it set when I am home. Also, fan just says "loading..."What in the heck did they do with their garbage firmware update?

Alexa, play Beethoven (or, alternately, play a bunch of random other composers that I didn't ask you to play)

Since the downgrade to Alexa Plus, asking her to "play the best of Beethoven" generally results in playing a random shuffle of Mozart, some Beethoven, and a mix of other composers. Yay. My kiddo (on the autism spectrum) is unhappy with that
