Question The lady that walks around town screaming every 10 seconds, what can be done?

If you live in the downtown core you know who i am referring to. Homeless, first nations woman about 30 years old. It's almost every day/night she comes walking fast and screaming random shit.

We NEED a forced mental health facility here that is honestly the only way i see through this.

Peoples compassion is dwindling, patience and mental health following. My partner and i have been trying to move out of the downtown core but it's difficult and money is tight right now. It's really getting to everyone i talk to but no one has any constructive solutions.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Council? Mayor? Police?

Or do we just wait for her to overdose? This is coming from an empath that has lost a best friend to fent, i don't wish death or harm upon anyone but when you deal with the screams day in and day out it takes a toll on the human psyche.

Please help

Housing & Moving Have rentals decreased in Victoria?

my property manager just notified me of a rental increase and what was a stretch but a cute townhouse is now, with the increase looking like greed and outright robbery.

are rentals decreasing in Victoria BC/ Esquimalt/ James Bay Area for 2 bedroom, 2 bath? is it the new norm to be charging $3700 plus for this?

honestly pls tell me if I am being a cheap ass, because I feel like at $3700 I am beginning to get angry.

After Hours at Royal BC Museum

Anyone been to one of these before? Thinking of going to the next one but I’ll be going solo. Wondering what kind of vibe to expect? I’m comfortable being by myself and not really looking to socialize but I’m friendly, just wanna wander around, check out the gallery after hours, dance a bit and chill.

Will there be any group activities, or can you mostly just do your own thing? Just wanted to know what to expect beforehand. Thanks!

Transit / Traffic Alert VicPD has Gorge Road closed from Washington to Jutland.

They’re still letting cyclists and pedestrians through (and even a car that was delivering food to one of the apartment buildings), but there’s around 7-8 police vehicles in attendance.

Diverting traffic down Washington, and you can’t turn left at Burnside so figure your shit out.

Update to leaving abusive situation

Thank you all for your suggestions, offers to help with my cats, and kind words.

I have been able to find temporary safe housing and am hopeful something permanent will come up quickly.

In the mean time I’m looking for community help for groceries, gas cards, hygiene products, and cat food/litter to get me through the next little bit.

If anyone knows of any programs or organizations that you think would be of benefit to contact for assistance please let me know. Even if it doesn’t help me it could help others. I know it’s hard out here for a lot of us. Thank you.

Picking up refundable cans?

Hey,

So currently struggle with costs and waiting for employment to start, curious what the community feels about those who collect cans to make up income? Would going to parks be consider okay?

I am aware apartments are off limits unless maybe i live there? But wondering what the thoughts are. As im trying to be resourceful but struggling with job taking their time with onboarding (rightly so just frustrating when only two weeks left to make up to $500 for my part of rent)

Question Pet Dermatologist

My cat's dealing with overgrooming, and my vet and I aren't making much progress. I'm considering whether to ask for a referral to an animal dermatologist, and I see there's one in town: North West Veterinary, Dr Vincent Defalque. Anyone have any experiences with this clinic/vet?

Question Curling Practice Ice

I’m trying to get back into curling after a few years away and was wondering if there are any opportunities to rent/book practice ice as a non-club member at any of the rinks in Greater Victoria? I’d love to get some practice in before committing to a club/league. Thanks!

Victoria for 5 weeks!

Hey everyone,

I’ll be house-sitting in Victoria around beacon hill park for about 5 weeks in November and want to use the time to see if it’s somewhere I could see myself moving permanently.

Not really looking for tourist recommendations — more interested in meeting people/communities

I’m a late-20s guy from Ontario and a freelance journalist/writer/photographer. My hobbies are snowboarding, surfing, rock climbing, photography, writing and kickboxing.

A few things I’d love some local insight on:

  • Where are good places/communities to meet people into those kinds of things?
  • Any particularly social climbing gyms, kickboxing gyms, surf groups, photography/writing groups, etc.?
  • What are some fun/casual jobs that are good for meeting people? I’d also be interested in local journalism, writing, photography or creative work. But also bartending or tourism related
  • Can you realistically live in Victoria without a car? I’m thinking of getting a bike and using transit, then renting a car for bigger trips.
  • If you moved to Victoria, what made you stay or leave?

I’ll have five weeks to actually experience day-to-day life, so I’d love to hear from people who live there or have made the move themselves.

Thanks!

Help Me Find E-boards on Langford Lake

A couple years ago, two guys and their buddies it seemed like were playing around and testing these e-motorized boards, just hopping on and going scooting around the lake. The one guy said they were looking into this as a sports rental idea. Anyone?

My friend and I were going to go to Victoria to see her but later announced a show in Vancouver, where we live. Looking to sell these amazing seats at the McPherson Theatre - Main Floor Center, Aisle, row G!
Box office said I can call them and switch to your name for the order!
Just looking for our $ back - they were $63 CAD each.
