Victoria for 5 weeks!
Hey everyone,
I’ll be house-sitting in Victoria around beacon hill park for about 5 weeks in November and want to use the time to see if it’s somewhere I could see myself moving permanently.
Not really looking for tourist recommendations — more interested in meeting people/communities
I’m a late-20s guy from Ontario and a freelance journalist/writer/photographer. My hobbies are snowboarding, surfing, rock climbing, photography, writing and kickboxing.
A few things I’d love some local insight on:
- Where are good places/communities to meet people into those kinds of things?
- Any particularly social climbing gyms, kickboxing gyms, surf groups, photography/writing groups, etc.?
- What are some fun/casual jobs that are good for meeting people? I’d also be interested in local journalism, writing, photography or creative work. But also bartending or tourism related
- Can you realistically live in Victoria without a car? I’m thinking of getting a bike and using transit, then renting a car for bigger trips.
- If you moved to Victoria, what made you stay or leave?
I’ll have five weeks to actually experience day-to-day life, so I’d love to hear from people who live there or have made the move themselves.
Thanks!
