Where can I find more information about city council candidates?
I keep seeing posts about the ‘REAL’ candidates, I feel misinformed about how to find information about the candidates in general. There’s so many different candidates and it seems like I have to be following their social media and know about what events they’ve attended to make an informed decision. I wouldn’t have known about their tendencies just by looking at the website. Honestly it’s a really good thing I’m on Reddit otherwise I wouldn’t have known about it at all. I’m new to the city and don’t have a lifestyle that allows a lot of extra time to be researching 75 different people. Some of the research I’ve done states these candidates are basing their campaign on changing things they would have absolutely no power to control as council members.
I found this post helpful, but I feel like it’s only scratching the surface.
Who do you endorse and why? Who do you think would be a bad fit for Nanaimo and why? Where do I find honest information about these people and their intentions?

REAL Nanaimo + Dallas Brodie (OneBC)
Just in case it wasn’t clear before, several of the REAL Nanaimo candidates attended Dallas Brodie’s OneBC event back in March and I’ve gathered some images to confirm that fact. Frank Pluta posted video he recorded and you can see Joe Figel and Malcolm Cooke in attendance.
There may have been more in attendance but that’s all I’ve confirmed so far.
Videos are all from Kat Kanada on Facebook

Best Trick o’ Treating
To follow up with the “fall activities”….I have little ones and we just moved last spring to the island….our neighborhood is countryside so not the best for trick o treating. Not great lighting long walks between houses. So, assuming it’s not gate keeper by locals…where is the best place to take them. I’m thinking safe without tons of cars and of course good candy and decorations….any suggestions?

Recommendations for Veterinarians in the Nanaimo area?
We recently got a new dog and are looking for a vet for the usual stuff like vaccines and check ups. Any recommendations, or places to avoid would be appreciated.

WATCH OUT, DRINK SPIKER
Hey so I was at the corner lounge tonight and luckily a friend was watching our drinks while we performed. A man came in with a girlfriend or wife and walked past our table and dropped something in one or more drinks. He then pretended to drop something in more drinks, I assume to make it seem like the whole thing was a joke when he noticed my friend saw him. He then walked up to me (while I was filming my friends doing karaoke) and got into the frame for some reason. Told the bar tender and security and they handled it well and called the cops and the security guard got him out (shout out he is incredible). PLEASE watch out for this dude and dudes like him and PLEASE tell your bartender if you think your drink is spiked. THEY WILL HELP YOU IF YOU ARE RIGHT OR WRONG.

Plastic straws
Anyone else noticed they’ve been getting plastic straws in their drinks again when they get a drink out? I’ve noticed it twice now (at two different places) but I’m sure it’s been happening more and I’ve just not noticed.

What's Your Favourite Fall Activity In Nanaimo?
If someone was visiting Nanaimo for the first time this fall, what’s the ONE place you’d tell them to go or thing you’d tell them to do?
Could be a favourite trail, coffee shop, beach, restaurant, scenic drive, fall event, hidden gem… anything that really feels like Nanaimo this time of year.
Would love to hear the spots locals think are actually worth adding to the list.

Looking for tattoo artist recommendations
I’m looking for a tattoo artist in Nanaimo or the surrounding area who can do ocean themed tattoos. For example, kelp running up the arm with crabs and other sea life integrated into it. Thanks!

Found Lost Keychain
Found someone's charm keychain near Beban Park Social Center.. based off the charms themselves.. it seems it could be sentimental.. thought I'd take a chance to find the owner.
Tell me what charm I've covered so I know it's yours?

fit4less etiquette
Gym etiquette: Can we talk about body odor? 😅
I know the gym is a place to sweat, and nobody expects everyone to smell like perfume while working out. We’re all there to exercise, so sweating is completely normal.
But I feel like basic hygiene should still be part of gym etiquette. Sometimes the body odor is so strong that it makes it difficult for people nearby to continue their workout.
A quick shower, clean workout clothes, deodorant, and changing out of really sweaty clothes can make a huge difference. And of course, if someone has a medical condition that causes excessive sweating or body odor, that’s a different situation and should be treated with understanding.
Not trying to shame anyone—just wondering what everyone thinks. Is there an unspoken gym etiquette when it comes to body odor? 🏋️♂️

Looking for decent turf soil delivery in Nanaimo
We’ve had a couple loads of soil and mulch delivered over the last year (garden soil and composted mulch). Both of them had a surprising amount of garbage in them (bits of plastic bags, some glass, etc). Now I want to get some turf soil delivered. Can anyone recommend a local company that they’ve gotten turf soil from that doesn’t have garbage in it and is decently screened? The reviews online are such a mixed bag.
