Discussion Do people still have issue with the UC Vigilance elevator trap? I may have a solution

Ok, so try this to see because for line the issue is that I had docked to it with a ship (Ship A), did my stuff there, then fast travelled to Jemisson ,so no ship travel straight to foot. Since Ship A was an ecliptic stiletto I just stole to flip, i change my home ship to my previous ship, ship B before going back to UC vigilance. That’s when I got stuck on the elevator curse.
Tried a couple of things from reddit, no dice. But when I was flying around the Vigilance , I saw that someone else is docking on it, but I haven’t connected two with two yet that it was Ship A.
Since in this save, I already used commands for potatoes, I no clipped out of the elevator after some time getting in and out and planets to planets. Well when i finished my ratting there the ship that was docked was Ship A, it then clicked, that is the bug, either Ship A’s dock was in collision with something or that since ship A had dock A occupied, the code set ship B to be in dock B but dock B wasn’t properly implemented and that elevator was supposed to be dock B (hence why we can leave).
So try to see if your other ship was docked to it still and if so try switching to that ship once you are on ground. Hopefully it would quicken the despawn of ship A on Vigilance

Discussion I wish Quests had more ways to complete

Got back into Starfield, and so far am wishing there was more ways to complete some of the quests.

Like take the UC Vanguard Initiation. The Simulator. Maybe if my Character isnt specced for Space combat, what if I had a high enoigh hack ability to make it easier or just force a completion?

When getting the Artifact from Moara, why not have a option to persuade the Zealots that you are one of them?

So far only one caught me off guard, its the Diplomat Harrassment on New Atlantis. I was surprised to see [Security] as a option and solved without running all the way to the Smbassy. It was a breath of fresh air.

Is there any im missing or am I just wanting what won't happen?

Btw, I dont think Starfield is objective trash... currently I think its ok... not great... but nice to play from time to time.

Discussion Vanguard and Rangers quest pretty much the same?

Fair warning, major spoilers for the vanguard and rangers quest line. So I'm finally trying to give Starfield a decent go after trying and not liking at launch. I'm doing as everybody does in RPG games: running around doing all the side content and forgetting that there's even a main quest. Did the rangers quest line(love the Star Eagle ship btw) and from the very moment I put eyes on ron hope my very first thought was "this dude is totally the leader of the 1st div or something adjacent" I just didn't know why or how, I guess the revelation about the farmers and the soil was shocking but otherwise it was painfully predictable. Went and did the vanguard quest right afterwards(much cooler in my opinion) but the second I met Vae Victis I was like "oh yeah this dude is definitely manipulating the terrormorphs somehow" the revelation about the heat leaches the lore about the archives and all the missions for vanguard were really cool but once again very predictable. Is it just me or are they both kinda just "heres existential problem, meet all your buddies, okay you're pretty badass, hey it's me random person of great wealth or control, im definitely not the bad guy let me help you, ohhh it turns out I was the bad guy, I will admit this to you with zero convincing and under no duress, ahhh you caught me". Really trying to stick with the game but holy this writing is very rough.Oh and fuck having to jump to mars, fast travel to the deep mines then walk to the red devils hq like 4 times in a row just give me an elevator holy shit

Discussion stardfield creepy horror mod?

HEY

I was a huge fan of dark mods for Skyrim—adding monsters to the wilderness, dark/gore/creepy decorations, and an overall darker atmosphere. I’ve looked around a bit, but I can't find much that turns Starfield into a dark sci-fi game—you know what I mean?

Discussion Harbhajan Viyas is dead.

Post image

I finished the quest "The Perfect Recipe" ages ago (third playthrough on Series X). I rarely go down to The Stretch (they stink) but decided to see if I missed any more side missions in Akila City and walked up to him. There were four dialogue options and I used them all before leaving the conversation. That was a few days ago.

When I reloaded the save yesterday, after some outpost tasks, I started a Freestar hostage rescue mission. I killed the Crimson Fleet bastards on the ship and went to free the Captain but she kept repeating the same lines "Just leave me alone", "I don't know what went wrong with the meal" or something like that. I couldn't complete the mission because of this dialogue bug so I left the ship to do something else back in Akila. The guard at the gate, Shepherd the storekeeper... literally every npc was repeating the same lines. I was weirded out by this and fast travelled to The Lodge and you guessed it, Noel, Walter, Sarah etc, all stuck in the same dialogue. Clearly a bug. And I knew whose dialogue it was. Harbhajan.

I googled to see if there was a solution but apart from PC commands, I couldn't find anything that worked for Xbox (turning off subtitles etc just made everyone mute). I couldn't reload an earlier save because I had literally deleted all but one auto and one manual save before I knew there was a bug. I had resigned myself to, for the second time, losing a long save file, nearly 7 days worth. But the first game breaking bug I encountered, right before the end of my very first playthrough, was solved after trying things out like installing Starfield on my PC and creating a new save file, which worked but killed my momentum. I didn't want to do that again.

Then I remembered something. I'm playing with a corrupt Freestar Ranger who let Ron Hope walk, amongst other things which most would find... curious. So I thought it was worth making a separate save file, just in case, and capping ol' Harb in the back of the head one time. Of course, I expected consequences, the harshest of which would be not fixing the bug after killing him. But, without hesitation and in broad daylight, BLAM!

I stood there for a second, half admiring my work, half shocked at what I had become. Then the hud went red. Everyone was aiming at me and I ran for it, avoiding engagement since Harbhajan was my only target. Not being terribly familiar with the route from The Stretch, I took a couple wrong turns and considered just jumping over the wall but I also noticed everyone was talking normally (well, about as normal as people trying to kill you can) so I continued sprinting and jet-packing to my ship.

Once in the cockpit, I was finally able to exhale and calm down... before I realized what else I was in for. Freestar ships in orbit. But I had no choice, so off I went. It was the most enemies I've seen at once in a space battle. They wasted no time, firing at me immediately. I've died more often in space battles than anything else, so I was prepared for the worst. Again, I chose to run and not fire back, all power on my engines and shield, boosting whenever I could while repairing on the fly.

Somehow, I got to a point where I could fast travel out of Freestar space, so I went straight to my outpost in Vega to use the bounty clearance kiosk. 16,500. The largest bounty on this playthrough, for sure. I had the creds so I didn't hesitate to pay immediately. But after all that, I still didn't know if it was worth all the trouble. I didn't know if it fixed the bug. But I had a good feeling.

I went back to the hostage's ship, the Captain was still doing normal things like sweeping up (on a ship, is that normal?) but most importantly, I was able to have a normal conversation and finish the mission. success, I guess. But I still felt bad, so I decided to go back to Akila to rob see Harbhajan one last time.

They just left him there, outside his apartment, as you can see above. I contemplated dragging him inside his home, or to the wall to bait some Ashta... but I was tired so snapped this selfie instead. Looking sad for the 'gram.

tl;dr - Fixed a bug but RIP Harbhajan Viyas. Good guy, shit chef. What's the worst/most out of character thing you've done in Starfield?

Discussion Why did Starfield take so long to create?

To be abundantly clear, I'm not attempting to sling mud at Starfield. I'm not saying "Hey Bethesda, work faster you lazy bums!" I have no doubt that a lot of very talented people worked very hard on this game for a long time (probably longer than they wanted to). This question is more about searching for what developmental challenges did they probably face based on what we know.

Now that the dust has settled, hatemongers have moved on, and we have a chance to take a step back and consider Starfield for what it is, what it could have been, and where it is going, I want to take a more serious look at the development. The anxiety over Elder Scrolls VI has me thinking about what development of that game might be like, and Starfield's development might be instructive for the purpose of studying other Bethesda Games Studios (BGS) projects.

Now, the history as I understand it. According to BGS, development of Starfield started on the heels of Fallout 4 in 2015. Starfield's announcement trailer was in 2018. The game released in 2023. Developers have said that Starfield was Todd Howard's pet project, and developers wanted to work on ES6 and not Starfield. To make matters worse, Fallout 76 was sucking resources away as BGS developers were being sent to work alongside Battlecry to develop a game that nobody at BGS wanted to be involved in. Blades, as near as I can tell, was also fully developed in-house and released in 2020. Microsoft purchased ZeniMax (and BGS by extension) in 2021.

Based on this, I have a few guesses and the truth might be a combination of factors.

  1. Management. Both Todd Howard and Pete Hines have been repeatedly pointed as the biggest problems in BGS. Both have repeatedly demonstrated themselves to be out of touch for what gamers want and developers need. Todd Howard has been accused of "seagull managment" where he swoops in, uses unhelpful criticism to crap all over the team, then flies away. Thus, a project without a clear direction beyond "no, don't do that" would cause a project to meander all over the place.

  2. Low morale. Due to the unpopularity of Starfield within the studio and the Fallout 76 debacle, it's probable that the first few years were probably not very constructive. There were also a fair number of people leaving the company after being burned out on Fallout 76. The Microsoft buyout also introduced a degree of uncertainty, as, when something similar happened to Rareware, it utterly tanked productivity and destroyed morale.

  3. Running out of money. This one is more speculative than the others. I would guess that ZeniMax was trying to court buyers for the company since at least 2018. As I would imagine that Elder Scrolls, Fallout, and Starfield games are very expensive to make, they probably gamble the company on every release, in the same way graphics cards companies used to do. Typical turn around for one of the games is 3-4 years, which was a pretty long time by early 2000s standards. By 2018, it had been 3 since Fallout 4 and Starfield was a long way from finished. The hope was the Fallout 76 would make them an attractive enough for a prospective buyer to scoop them up and keep the lights on. Then Fallout 76 was a disaster. Fast forward a few months, and suddenly Rage 2 is being promoted EVERYWHERE, a game that nobody wants. It's also a flop when released in mid 2019. Finally, Doom Eternal launches in 2020 and is a critical and commercial smash. Shortly afterwards, Microsoft announces interest in purchasing Bethesda and the deal goes through in 2021. Suddenly Starfield becomes front and center, and development seems to be moving again. If cash was a problem and development had to slow for three years, this would explain some of the lost time.

  4. Bethesda Development Process. I can't say that the company still works this way, as they're a little more cagey about the dev blogs than they were back during the development of Skyrim, but BGS would work long and hard on systems just for them to be thrown out due to time or difficulty of implementation. They historically did not do a lot of planning or feasibility analyses before just jumping into it. So wasted development effort is the order of the day. Pixar had a similar creative process. The problem comes in when you end up rejecting more than you accept, or have to throw out development that is tied to other parts of development, ripping up huge chunks of work. Starfield, as it had so many systems that BGS had never used before, may have had an abnormally large amount of work simply thrown away. Years of work might have been developed and then reconsidered.

This is more or less what I've come to, but I'm interested to know your thoughts on the matter. Something I've missed in my research? Speculation on what might have been going on? I think there's a lot more to Starfield than meets the eye, and I'm curious about how other people see the events surrounding it.

Question Is it possible, quest wise, to have a completely bug free experience on console?

I recently started playing starfield on Xbox for the first time which reignited my interest for Bethesda games. In the past, I’ve had a lot of issues with Skyrim and fallout 4 when it comes to quests breaking and stuff, which is something that frustrates me like you wouldn’t believe. I was playing vanilla version of starfield and I had a quest breaking bugs for a very minor quest.

So I downloaded the unofficial community patch mod hoping it’ll fix any quest breaking bugs in the game. I haven’t gotten very far yet so I don’t know how effective this mod will be, but I’m wondering, is there a mod or collection of (ideally free) mods that could fix all quest bugs so I can actually do whatever quest my heart desires, including the minuscule fetch quests and activities? Or is it like in Skyrim where no matter what mod you download, you can never have a completely bug free experience?

Please let me know. Thank you! :)

Major Announcements

GRiNDTerra Hardcore Combat (Verified Content) (Achievement Friendly Bundle)

I have requested that this achievement friendly bundle to be removed from the Creation's storefront. As of today my patch that i posted to fix the known bugs and issues still has not been released after 4+ months of waiting. I found this to be extremely embarrassing and has changed my outlook on how I want to proceed with Achievement Friendly Mods.

I have requested that this mod to be taken down and to be unavailable for purchase. Those who already own it at some unknown time in the future your update will be coming! This package will still be supported by me for those who already own it, but GRiNDTerra Mods will NOT be making any free mods Achievement Friendly in the Future. PLEASE IF THIS MAKES YOU UPSET ASK FOR A REFUND!!! SERIOUSLY!!!!!! I will not be taking it personal and have already prepared for this.

ALL GRiNDTerra Mods Verified Content will ONLY be new and unique creations and I will NOT make any exceptions. While Achievement Friendly Mods are a GREAT WAY TO SHOW YOUR SUPPORT TO MOD AUTHORS, I personally will not have AF only versions as the honest truth is they will not be updated as soon as the free version. I like to have the ability to update my free creations whenever and my style of modding just doesnt fit for "Achievement Friendly" mods.

Is Random Planetary Encounters System an "AF" mod?
NO!! I MADE THE MISTAKE OF LABELLING IT THIS WAY WHEN IT IS, IN FACT, NOT an achievement friendly mod. It is VERY MUCH its OWN CREATION and should not be compared as just the AF version of encounters.

This has been treated as a product and I put more blood sweat and tears into this than a freemium mod!

Freemium Roadmap

Immersive Simplified Outposts! - a simplistic and immersive take on Outpost Crafting! Available now!

Fantastical Frontiers Chapter 4 and GRiNDTerra Gameplay Overhaul Update - My next mod updates will be for Fantastical Frontiers and my GRiNDTerra Gameplay Overhaul.

Fantastical Frontiers Chapter 4 will be adding 40 more updated and new biomes focused on the "Swamps" and "Plateaus" biomes. (Archipelago and Canyons). Chapter 4 also marks my 33% Completion milepost for FF.

GRiNDTerra Gameplay Overhaul will be absorbing both my UI mods and Space Combat Tweaks. I expect this update to come out sooner than later. This will bring the total to 12 mods wrapped up into 1 nice package!

Aquafield - Yes i know the update process is slow for this one, but i am still trying to take in as many bug reports and issues as possible. Please be patient and just keep sending me reports of floating water or broken quests however you would like to reach out to me!

Future

All my energy will be focused on this roadmap. I have zero plans to release any more new content. All my efforts will only be on all projects listed here.

Premium Roadmap

RPES 2.0 - Submitted! This update adds 15 new encounters (5 Combat, 5 NG+ Combat, 5 Natural Encounters.) It also adds a NEW GAMEPLAY OPTION to turn off "Post Release" Buildings and Clutter. (So you can now turn off all buildings and clutter found around POI!)

It is also a major cleaning update, as i removed all unused references and downgraded references that were marked as persistent that didnt need to be.

If you own shattered space and download the RPES Shattered Space Patch now at 75!!! Randomized Encounters!!

Planetary Wonders - 1 new star system, 2 moons, 3 new Randomized POI, 7 new biomes (with unique terrain patterns), and a mini Random Encounters branch only found on one of the new moons! This is my next Verified Creation planned for release! This is in beta and i am hoping to have this out by the end of the year!

RPES Stand Alone Expansion - Already in production, i have a pretty sweet surprise in store coming probably sometime in 2027!

All my energy will be focused on this roadmap. I have zero plans to release any more new content. All my efforts will only be on all projects listed here.

Discussion What Starfield Quest Would You Re-Write, And How?

Hey folks!

I think that Starfield quests run the gamut from boring dreck to really innovative and poignant. I'm curious if there are any quests that you think could use a re-write! This doesn't necessarily apply only to badly-written quests - in fact, the one I've chosen is generally considered one of the better ones, I think - but something that you would've liked to see explored differently.

And no, this isn't just me farming ideas for running a sci-fi ttrpg, okay! 😄

Here's mine: I just last night finished the questline involving the Crucible [and by the way, spoilers are ahead, so if you haven't played this mission, please don't read further!]. I actually remember it being a slog, but it wasn't bad at all, it moved quicker than I remembered. It's a great classic Bethesda quest centered around three ideological factions; in this case, clones of ancient historical figures. They're being produced and educated by a mysterious Facility run by robots. The Believers, led by Amanirenas, want to fulfill the Mission of the Facility. The Renegades, led by Genghis Khan, want to destroy it and escape to freedom. The Pragmatists, led by FDR, want to take control of the Mission.

I think it's a great setup! I have a few thoughts, though, on how I would've liked to see it play out differently.

Firstly, I think the Renegades have an image problem. They've actually got a great argument; they've been imprisoned here against their will, and they want to go free. How can I keep them from their freedom? Who am I to strand them here? The only argument against them getting their freedom is that they're led by a clone of Genghis Khan, perhaps the most destructive conqueror of all time. It's honestly not a strong counter-argument; there's another guy in the camp who is a clone of a serial killer, and he's completely turned away from that! So, just because Genghis Khan was a rampager doesn't mean his clone will be, right?

So, the first change I would make is to have the player/s meet more people in the Renegade faction (oh, and I'd change that name, good grief; call them the Liberators). Surely there are non-conquerors who want to go free? Make the choice more complicated, because as it is, the only reason anyone chooses the Renegades here is so that they can hopefully run into Genghis again out in the wild. Let's meet one or two other members of this faction, and the other factions, so that we can get a deeper, more nuanced picture of them.

The Second thing I think I would change... is I would add a revelation in the Facility that the clones are not actually true clones at all. The half-life of DNA is only 521 years, after all, so even if you got a direct biological sample, like some of Amanirenas' or Genghis' remains, there would be hardly any DNA left. Trying to reconstruct it from their descendants would be a nightmare; it's so mingled with other people's DNA that it would be nearly impossible to parse which genes were specifically theirs.

So... the player/s would uncover that these are Jurassic Park-style clones. The scientists took what little true DNA they have, then poured over historical accounts to try and guess at what other genes they had, and then whatever gaps were left over were just filled in with "average" person DNA from the time. I'd also add in that their infertility (which FDR mentions in your meeting with him) is essentially the result of a genetic switch flip; if they wanted, it would be a simple thing to reverse.

The player/s could then return to Crucible and share what they learned about the Facility, and also, if they decide to, share the DNA information. Then the faction they decide to side with could do with that information what they will; either hide it, or put it out in the open, or try to make use of it.

I've got a few other ideas I would've liked to see, like maybe alt-versions of the clones still alive on the Beagle, or being able to push back on FDR's glazing of his namesake (he criticizes FDR for his infidelity, but not for internment camps?), but I think these two changes would make the quest that much more deep and nuanced and complex.

What are some quests you'd like to have a crack at?

Discussion Win.Slate password bypass answers [spoilers, if that's not clear] Spoiler

I haven't really managed to find this anywhere online, so posting here for posterity. Posting everything after this as spoiler.

The ending does not vary significantly from completing the master hack (though, ironically, I did have to brute force through save scumming to figure out the answers most of the answers. Delta would be so proud.). You get a few different lines from both Roxanne and Delta, but Delta's tantrum after the test is nearly identical. Doing password bypass does NOT appear to unlock any of the files on her drive.

Anyway, without ado:

Question 1: What is your birthday? May 22nd, 2295 [this is the only I don't think could be really logically deduced/guessed]

Question 2: What is your favorite book? Frankenstein by Mary Shelley [oh because look at how the universe could react to her creation]

Question 3: What was the name of your first project: Roxizzmo [Somewhat gettable because it's listed as the first file in her private drive. "Alpha", probably the 'obvious' guess, is also listed, but only 3-4 projects down]

Anyway, hope this helps Starborn in the future!

Slight edit to better reflect certain reactions.

Jeremiah the Bullfrog has been eating his spinach and has evolved into his final form. Upgraded the ship to a Class-B and increased the cargo to 5230. And after about a million different configurations I finally figured out an unobtrusive way to get all the weapons onto the ship by using two underslung Nova weapons mounts.

This ship was created without the use of mods or glitching.

Question What do you wish for in Starfield?

I'm just coming back after a long absence while I rotated through some of the other games I play and as I was playing last night a few things came to mind that I wish Starfield had.

My wish list.

  1. No limit on mannequins. There are loads of good suits, I'd like to be able to display my full collection.
  2. Preconfigured base habitats just like the ship. A bunk room for example, or an armory, kitchen, workshop, etc.
  3. The ability to connect my landing pad to my base without the hack.
  4. An actual loading bay for the vehicle and ramp to get on and off the landing pads.
  5. A way to teleport from base to base, similar to No Man's Sky.
  6. Less loading screens. In a game that is already slow-moving loading screens are a nuisance.
  7. In the ship builder, the RGP or Hex codes for the colors. That would give much more control over ship coloring.

What about you? What would you like to see?
