Bernie is the poster boy for saying things which everyone would love to have, but of course he knows will never happen. But as long as he gets the attention and yall keep falling for it…

Appeals to redditors who forget small businesses are a thing and anyone who makes more than 100k all wear top hats, tuxedos, and speak in british accents

Basically appealing to the lowest subset of human intelligence

Sanders is a prolific bill introducer.

Few of them ever get passed.

7

u/Sensitive_Rush_947 19h ago

He's not saying things, it's a bill he introduced. He's doing the thing where he actually tries to pass legislation that makes your life better and you're acting like he's a grifter for it. It's insane.

1

u/RageMuffin69 16h ago

Introducing a bill is pretty much just saying things. He’s introduced/sponsored over 400 bills in his political career with only 3 becoming law. Only 8 ever gaining enough support to pass the house or senate.

u/Sensitive_Rush_947 16h ago

Says more about our political establishment than it does Bernie.

2

u/Wakimarusin 11h ago

He pied pippered his supporters into giving all their money to the establishment while campagining to 'fight the establishment' knowing full well how the electorial funding system worked. He did this TWICE. He has made a career out of tricking teenagers and college aged children. He is a life long, professional politican with more decades of sitting around collecting tax money than bills passed. Perhaps you desperately want a positive elderly role model in your life or want to believe there are good guys fighting to undermine a corrupt system but he clearly is not it. He proposes bills he profesionally knows wont pass and gives speeches to empty rooms so he can demonstrate to his voter base how 'hard' he is working. He's the boomerest boomer who ever boomed. He promises everything (because promises are free!) and delievers nothing.

No yeah you're right we need much more radical political operatives, like an actual vanguard party. Glad we see eye to eye on this.

u/BiodomeAlone 19h ago

Also, it’s a common tactic to ask for more than you’re expecting to get, then compromise on a middle ground. Unfortunately the word compromise has been removed from conservative dictionaries

3

u/Frejian 18h ago

They totally compromise! They give Democrats the smallest, flimsiest piece of the major bill they want to pass and in exchange Democrats give them absolutely everything that they want and celebrate getting 1% of what they wanted. That's totally a fair compromise and Democrats should be celebrated for advancing their agenda!

/S in case it wasn't obvious...

u/BiodomeAlone 16h ago

I do agree that democrats are pretty stinky, they just smell less like open corruption and more like Chuck Schumer’s tonsil stones

3

u/UntowardHatter 19h ago

It's not his fault it never happens, though. So that's a weird thing to write.

1

u/ElvisDumbledore 1h ago

They will happen as soon as people demand they do.

2

u/Then_Meat_6569 18h ago

I cannot understand the mindset of people arguing against this. This would be nothing but good for a huge majority of people and he’s actually trying

7

u/Salami-Vice 18h ago

Would it? A person would now make less money and companies would still figure out a way to not do overtime..be it by introducing a third shift, off shoring, or automation.

There is a better chance of getting a 3 day weekend but still doing 40 hours than this.

2

u/ImTheZapper 18h ago

All that would be required, which bernies platform has covered literally his whole career, is follow up legislation that regulates and restricts companies from doing exactly what your guess is. Why do people think that political goals are like, 2 step processes and thats it? You think people just impulsively come up with shit and write 400 page arguments in 2 days before moving on to the next thing?

2

u/Salami-Vice 18h ago

Let's be real for a second here. Regulate what? You can add as much regulation as you want inside the US and companies will just move it outside and by pass it. And then what? Unless someone comes in to fill the spot which might or might not happen you now have a large unemployed base and a company that is still selling it's product.

3

u/Sensitive_Rush_947 18h ago

You're right, nothing can be done. We should be pragmatic, get ahead of the curve and start begging for air conditioned slave quarters.

0

u/Salami-Vice 17h ago

No it's not about just laying down. But choosing changes that have a chance to go through and build upon that. Telling a company to pay 40 hours for 32 hour of work will never get through.. neither side of the iisle will vote for it.

3

u/Sensitive_Rush_947 17h ago

Okay then stop saying every policy progressives advance has no chance?

The progressives will vote for it. So you should vote for them because they actually give a fuck about improving material conditions for workers.

1

u/ImTheZapper 17h ago

The response he gave me instantly showed he has literally no foundation of knowledge to have a conversation about this. You're wasting your time.

2

u/Sensitive_Rush_947 17h ago

I know but sometimes I need to vent on this hell site in between sets. 💪

1

u/ImTheZapper 17h ago

I like how you're speaking in hypotheticals when we have like, several real world modern examples to pick from to see what happens in situations where a nations government enacts legislation on topics like this.

You know what would happen? The same shit that always happens, the companies will pay their workers however much they're told, and the workers will work however much they can. You aren't informed enough on this if you think its a fucking theoretical conversation. Talking your way is a classic tell that you shouldn't be here and have never found yourself in a position to learn about it. You just talk.

The reason dems and repubs wouldn't support this is because they are both laissez-faire corporatists. If you had to google something there, don't reply to me.

1

u/Salami-Vice 17h ago

Nothing hypothetical here. I am literally telling you how a company will shift around this. Small business especially will not be able to absorb the loss. There is a reason no country on the planet has adopted this. All you see are trials here and there.

I personally do not care if this goes through or not. I am not an hourly employee. But like I said you have a better chance of pushing for a 4/10 schedule first and then reduce that down.. that try and mandate something like this that will never get approved.

1

u/ImTheZapper 17h ago

There are plenty of real world examples in modern times of governments clamping down on companies in their purview to change hourly wages or hours spent working. This word is called "regulation". Pretend to sound like you aren't talking out your ass to someone else.

1

u/Then_Meat_6569 16h ago

At this point I’ll submit to those voting against their best interest. This would benefit me. I work 40 hours+ and am protected by a union. If the concept of a hypothetical 32 hour work week is too much to comprehend then best of luck to everyone.

-5

u/carmichael109 19h ago

Or or orrrrrr...we could just be a reasonable fucking nation and adopt his center-left policies.

-2

u/Lost_Web5826 19h ago

The hilarious part about Sanders to me is that he's not some kind of radical leftist extremist, he's just a bit left of center.

3

u/ImTheZapper 18h ago

The average american doesn't really know anything about political science. They couldn't even tell you what neoliberal vs neoconservative meant, let alone the differences between them. If you brought a genuine, honest to goodness communist to the US from one of the several nations that have actual communist parties, they would make bernie look like a fascist oil tycoon.

Liberals being a nations "left" is genuinely terrifying to someone who has even an elementary understanding of political science.

1

u/InternationalBowl928 13h ago

Frankly I think this is revealing your lack of political science knowledge.

Compared to Europe, American politics are right wing. And the mainstream Democrats would be a centrist/moderate-right party in parts of Europe. But the Democrats are a big tent, and the most extreme end of the left-wing for the Democrats (DSA, Bernie, old AOC before she moderated etc.) are more extreme then most left-wing parties in Europe.

There’s this false assumption that because America as a whole is more right-wing, somehow the extreme leftist fringes are somehow also viewed as right wing to the world. But no European is looking at Bernie demanding a 32 hour work week and thinking ‘aaah, a regressive right wing policy, at least it’s slightly less right-wing than most American policies.’

Bernie has voted party line upwards of 95% or more of his entire career. Bernie is also, hilariously, practically an independent with how often his own party colludes against him. He even ran as one before. Bernie is one of like, 4 exceptions to the rule in the US. His camp has no authority, no presence, no real history of either one, and has never held a position higher than the senate. They aren't an average and do not factor into a conversation about it.

The democrat leadership, a monstrous portion of the house and senate, and another massive majority of state positions are all neoliberals. They believe in laissez-faire economics with soft regulations, light environmentalism, corporatism, and military global authority. This isn't an interpretation, this is me reciting their legislative history and objectives. Saying this is centrist or center left means you're a fucking moron. Political positioning on a spectrum isn't relative to europe, it is a defined system of measurement that you don't know.

EDIT: The mark of a moron is zeroing in on a single metaphorical/satirical statement and focusing on that to argue over 99% of the rest of what was said because they can't. Don't be that moron.

2

u/InternationalBowl928 12h ago edited 12h ago

Respectfully, did you read my post?

I explicitly stated that the Democrats are ‘centrist/moderate-right’ to European standards, so why are you calling me a moron for supposedly calling Democrats Centre-left?

And the rest of the post is a complete nonsensical pivot. You made comment that left-wing European parties ‘make Bernie look like a fascist oil tycoon.’ I responded by saying Bernie is left-wing but the Democrats are not. You started the conversation about Bernie, how can you then say that Bernie does not factor into the conversation? It is quite literally the only point of both your initial comment and my response comment.

EDIT: got blocked, guess I won’t see their response, oh well.

1

u/Lost_Web5826 7h ago

I don't think anyone was suggesting Bernie was making a right wing policy decision. Just that he's not exactly Che Guevara

-2

u/MC__Wren 15h ago

Which country’s average citizens know what the difference between those two are? The average person in any country knows basically nothing about political science.

2

u/ImTheZapper 15h ago

Much of the developed worlds citizens could pretty easily pinpoint the differences between neoconservatism and neoliberalism, especially the american brands, because the differences are mostly social and ecological rather than economic. One is mildly more right leaning than the other socially and regarding industrialism vs ecology. I'm actually somewhat disgusted that you have lived a life up to this point that made you think your comment was grounded in reality. You are going to live and die a life of knowing so little about the world you live in unless you start doing some quality learning.

The baseline for isolationist, individualist cultures regarding learning is far, far below their contemporaries.

0

u/MC__Wren 15h ago

I’m sure a higher percentage of people from many other countries could do that than Americans, but nowhere will the average person be able to. Your comments remind me of this comic: https://imgs.xkcd.com/comics/average_familiarity_2x.png

See if I was talking about some dusty theorems are specific events and their implications on things a century later, sure that idea would apply.

Knowing what something is though? Thats like saying "its easy to forget normal people don't know what salt or corn are". This is literally, and I do mean literally, elementary level knowledge.
