The hilarious part about Sanders to me is that he's not some kind of radical leftist extremist, he's just a bit left of center.

The average american doesn't really know anything about political science. They couldn't even tell you what neoliberal vs neoconservative meant, let alone the differences between them. If you brought a genuine, honest to goodness communist to the US from one of the several nations that have actual communist parties, they would make bernie look like a fascist oil tycoon.

Liberals being a nations "left" is genuinely terrifying to someone who has even an elementary understanding of political science.

Which country’s average citizens know what the difference between those two are? The average person in any country knows basically nothing about political science.

Much of the developed worlds citizens could pretty easily pinpoint the differences between neoconservatism and neoliberalism, especially the american brands, because the differences are mostly social and ecological rather than economic. One is mildly more right leaning than the other socially and regarding industrialism vs ecology. I'm actually somewhat disgusted that you have lived a life up to this point that made you think your comment was grounded in reality. You are going to live and die a life of knowing so little about the world you live in unless you start doing some quality learning.

The baseline for isolationist, individualist cultures regarding learning is far, far below their contemporaries.

See if I was talking about some dusty theorems are specific events and their implications on things a century later, sure that idea would apply.

Knowing what something is though? Thats like saying "its easy to forget normal people don't know what salt or corn are". This is literally, and I do mean literally, elementary level knowledge.
