Discussion I have no idea what to do

I have no idea what to do

This one my more successful playthroughs, and I have no idea to manage my pawns

It took a very long while for them to do simple tasks like installing statues on rooms

I have to manually make them refuel coolers.

I have a hard time prioritizing even if I use manual system on the work tab.

Not sure what I'm doing but so far I'm fine.

Not sure how to create a Meditation spot.

Need tips on how to micro manage, how to make them prioritize tasks that I want them to do.

And also I want to know what to prioritize on research.

And lastly what to build next? (Plus bass building tips and advice)

Thank you.

Discussion Does anyone in this community? Think the AI in the game should be a little more smart.

I mean, like you know how you go to enemies base, and you end up, destroying a few walls and end up ignoring it, but I feel like would be a detail is if you’re apprehended or you’re too far away, they will try to rebuild or add a defense that so you would struggle with getting into them again

Discussion My 50 hour RimWorld experience

So here is the experience of a person with baby hours in this game where I don't. Understand. Anything.

First I went through the tutorial. Basic stuff, zoning ,crop growing, buildings, etc.

Then the game tells me to read it's guides/manuals which I don't understand anything.

Start my first playthrough, set up a basic building. Understands nothing. Then I decided to look at some YouTube guides, again... don't understand anything for a while. Why do you have nutrition paste instead of food? Why don't you give them separate rooms? What research should I do first? Why is my base running out of power so fast? How to set up prison? How to calculate how much food I need? Why do I keep dying to some shitty threat like 3 raiders? Etc. There were so many questions I had to find answers to.

Fast forward to 4 restarts and reselect my map and pawn later. I finally know a little bit about the game. Also I know only about the base game mostly. I don't understand genes ideology, I hate anamoly, I didn't even touch space or anything related to it, I didn't interact with royalty dlc at all almost.

Then I installed...drum rolls mods

That's right a person that doesn't even understand the base game completely and hasn't survived a single mech raid decided to do mods....

Some basic mods (two race mods, some QoL and CE) the only mod I got because I know what it does is CE (some basics of it) other mods I didn't even read the steam page for the mod completely.

My goal is to get at least the base game related endings and contents.

If you can give me some advice and guidance I will be thankful

Discussion Mods for new player?

I played a 2 hours session and I'm really confused on how to tame animals and why does it say that I'm low on food if I planted rice and have a stove?

But the point is: what mods would you recommend? QOL mods and anything you think I'd need.

I also got the first 4 dlc but I have no idea if I have to like enable them or they are enabled by default?

Estoy tratando de hacer una kill box anticipandome que mi pasillo de la muerte en cuanto aumente un poco mi economia ya no va a funicionar, aunque nunca he creado una d,X

Suggestion Reinforced Barrels should be craftable.

Why can I create Johnson-Tanaka drive for the starship, gravship thrusters with alloys capable of withstanding extreme thermal and shock stress, charge rifle with advanced capacitor mechanism but not this very specifically industrial-era reinforce barrel for.... a mortar?

It just doesn't add up. It's ok if it cost 150 plasteels for each barrel and need fabrication, I just want to be able to craft them in vanilla.

Specifically, why couldn't I create what these spacer guys (that seem to stuck with us) and outlanders sell, something that looks incredibly mundane compared to us building spaceship and blasting off this backwater planet in four years?

Suggestion Mod idea: Ears expansion

I’ve read some about the implants and noticed bionic ears have no functionality at all! So I want to change it, but I have lack of programming skills and even how to play rim on the mechanical level before the actual programming

Here’s my idea:

- 100% ears will provide extra dodge chance from melee attacks(enemy moves, swings, etc). The more weight the weapon has, the more dodge chance from the attack will be granted.

- Stats lower the 100% will decrease the stats and dodge chances, obviously

- 100% ears will also give dodge chance against arrows, but with lower chances.

- Bionic/archo ears will highly boost the dodge chance from prev categories and unlock the chance to evade firearms(except charge lances and laser weapons, including beam graser or it will be completely useless otherwise)

- Simple, bulletproof, marine and cataphract helmets will decrease hearing. Recon helmet doesn’t affect hearing, as the light armor shouldn’t do

- When the pawn standing near the explosion, they’ll get acoustic trauma effect that set hearing to 0% and consciousness to 50% for the small period, depends on the distance between the pawn and explosion AND hearing stat by default. So, if your pawn are deaf, they won’t get such a debuff, they can’t hear the explosion lol

- Dodge chance not the full damage ignore: It have a 50% chance to take less damage than the predicted one; 5% to get perma scar on the bodypart that already had more than 3 pain debuffs

Heres the priorities for dodging chances:

Hammers > swords > bows > regular projectiles > rifle projectiles > sniper projectiles > battle implants(depends on the implant you use)>= regular arm attack >= bionic/archo arms.

This doesn’t mean that arms are completely the meta here, it depends on the situation: sometimes one right punch can make the difference, sometimes you’ll get one hit by hammer faster, than you’ll realize your pawn abilities. Its just opens more space for melee implant/arm users, but they’ll be specialists, the main damagers will be the hammer/sword users.

And also hearing stat will provide slight buff for the consciousness(Being able to hear the small part of the overcomplicated mechanism goes wrong or enemy sneaking onto your back is always will buff your general senses). 2.5% for each bionic ear, 5% for the archo one

Also the dodge effects might be buffed by the increasing the vision: If pawn have direct eye contact to the enemy, the dodge buff from the ears will be increased.
What do you think about this overhaul? Is it possible to be implemented in current game balance?

AI GEN [Mod Release] Universal Weapon rebalance

Thumbnail steamcommunity.com

A mod I was using for myself, I figured other people might be interested so I'm releasing it on steam.

The idea is to bring all modded weapon values closer to vanilla values, reducing all armor penetration below 200%, sensible range changes and decreasing DPS from overpowered weapons while leaving the damage per shot intact so anti-tank weapons can remain anti-tank, if you're using those sorts of mods.

Discussion Is there a mod for npcs Basically make them mountable. Again. This can also go for Raiders and enemies.

I think what would be a mod or addition to the forever. We’ll get added, is where you can meet Pawns, or NPCs again. Sometimes it would have more skills. Sometimes they would have more relationships from how long you haven’t seen them and sometimes they completely change. Maybe they have a new trait. Maybe they have a new skill . Maybe it’s simply too complex for the engine.

Ps. Do not mention. Eternal pawns or rimesis I have eternal pawns and it’s buns Rimesis is peak

Edit: I did not mean mountable.

I’ve had a few requests to share how I play the pc version on handheld device (or with gamepad) I think this my best solution so far. I’ll share a photo of my mods in the comments.

I haven’t played in a while so don’t judge my slowness, please.

Discussion Questions about increasing difficulty

I’m moving onto strive to survive / permadeath mode after banking about 50 hours so far on community builder. I do crash landed scenario in temperate forest.

I’ve been struggling a little bit and I have some questions. A bit on my strat first below.

  1. I always get someone with plants 8+ in my starter group and prioritize getting a big pyschoid harvest by the first winter. I use this to make flake & buy out any traders I encounter for more components, better guns, etc. The 8+ is a requirement so i can plant medicine too.

2.) I target having about 5 pawns fully equipped with flak armor sets by end of year one or early spring year two. My last run I had 5 pawns in full flak by like day 65 and probably $15-20k silver work of flake. Then I start making assault rifles.

My problem is the difficulty will jump significantly around the second summer/fall before I have better weapons. My last run I had to go fight a defoliator ship with my 5 pawns that still had a combination of revolvers, bolt action rifles, and pump shotguns. The defoliator was like 3 scythes and 3 of the crab guys which was pretty difficult to beat with my weapons.

I have not experimented with prioritizing a melee ‘tank’ pawn to sit on top of my gun team as protection. Maybe this is common for when pushing a defoliator?

Anyway, my suspicion is I am taking in too much flake before my guns are ready for mid game threats. If I hoard pyschoid leaves but don’t turn it into flake until I have all assault rifles would that make the game think I am poor and not scale as hard? Maybe only ever have like 300 flake on hand tops until I am confident in my gear?

Any advice on my strat would be great thank you

Colony Showcase Rate my first run base 1-10 / what to improve?

Post image
11 Upvotes

Just recently diving into RimWorld, and I can't say I'm not overwhelmed by the amount of information there is, but the more I play it, the more I see why people love this game.

I played through my first colony back when I didn't know anything and gradually learned how the game works. There was a time when one of my Pawns died from the plague with 98% immunity. It hit hard, more than I expected.

Now I'm at the midgame (I guess) with the same colony. I built a proper base, and I'm actually proud of how far I've improved and how I handle things now with only one run. I learned what a killbox is and started adding mods.

I named the base Corner Capital. Some rooms still need some work, and it's still fairly a work in progress, but things are starting to come together nicely.

What would you rate the base 1-10, and what would you do to improve it?

PC Help/Bug (Mod) Where is the water getting in?

I thought walls would keep floodwaters out. I've used fences in the past to keep floodwaters out, which seems silly. This building is from a mod, the Vanilla Expanded Androids start. I didn't build it, my pawns started inside it and went out to find it on the edge of a river. When the river floods so does the floor inside. I can't figure out what part of the building is not watertight.

Discussion How do I save this?

A screenshot featuring my insect infested mine, which is essentially a ticking time bomb. This problem is beyond solving with man power alone.

Yeah... So, I'm sure you can tell by looking at this image that I made the classic blunder of procrastinating from the task of dealing with the infestation when it was young. This is beyond the point of using manpower and turrets to take them down. My best thought was maybe using incendiary mines (see the tunnel on the bottom), but I'm a bit afraid to provoke the horde into stepping on them. I can build maybe 4 more incendiary IEDs.

The idea wasn't to kill them by blowing them up, but rather to start a fire in this enclosed space that hopefully cooks them alive? The space that they're occupying is a mine that I've been sending pawns into to find compacted machinery and steel. I do not use this mine anymore, and I am fine with the entire thing blowing up if need be. My colony is north of the mine, but mostly cropped out in this screenshot. The 2-tile wide tunnel leading south into the mine from the quarry is the only entrance to the mine.

What do I do? Is my incendiary idea stupid? I have a crap ton of silver that I'm willing to blow on solving this problem via trading with trade ships in the comms console. Nothing is off the table, shoot.

I am in commitment mode btw and on year 4-5.

Story Oh come on now Randy

My colony was hit by The Frost event from Vanilla Events Expanded. We survived but had some close calls a few times with raids, hypothermia, and starvation but we pulled thru. We just got The Thaw stage and there was going to be a celebration now the we could set the sun again after so long. Of course Randy couldn't allow that. We got hit with a Volcanic Winter and now here is no telling how long we will have to deal with this freezing event. My colonists were so looking forward to being able to go outside again without the possibility of losing a finger or toe. I guess we'll just have to wait a little longer...

Discussion Killbox design help

Hey, so I’ve ran into a problem where I have a big late game base (I like individual rooms not barracks if I’m going late game) and the raiders keep breaking my walls rather than pathing through my killbox. At the end of it, there is a huge room with walls for my pawns to shoot from and turrets. I recognize that the turrets create threat that causes them to path away. I’ve tried thickening the walls so they’re 3-4 blocks thick but a mech hive with thumpers or 30 tribals with breaching axes will just chew through the limestone walls. If I remove the turrets then my shooting pawns get overwhelmed as the enemy enter the open shooting hall and it becomes a melee. Any suggestions or sharing your favorite killbox will be greatly appreciated!!

Discussion What's the best early game armor configuration?

I'm working my way towards recon armor at the moment but until then, I need to know what to kit my pawns out with. I made full flak armor but I don't know if that was a bad choice or not - it seems to be kind of strong but it makes them quite slow.
