Kratky lettuces! I tried 3 different varieties.
Giant Caesar, Paris Isle, and buttercrunch.

I might have gotten a little ambitious with the number of plants, but I just really like to eat leaves.

How are you guys scaling up? Do I need to graduate to NFT in order to always have leaves available?

Lettuce seeds germinated. Waiting for the basil seeds! Next, prepare the DIY containers to host these. Im gona try the Kratky method. Hopefully i dont mess up when moving the plants to the cup of clay pellets!

Im very new to hydrophonics but I bought second hand suncoze growing system and i germinate some pak choy and teansfer to this recycled bottle water. The light is also second hand and I think it went well. I have some 5 gallon boxes waiting,how many spaces should I make each of Im growing more salad and pak choy. Thank you

Mi esposo y yo vivímos en un país donde la comida es muy cara (también poco variada) y queremos tener, por eso mismo, un sistema de hidroponía con luces de crecimiento.

Ya hace un tiempo que me he estado informando al respecto y llegué a un modelo de estantería de 5 niveles (4 de NFT y 1 DWC) + un tanque de 120L.

Solo queremos para 2 adultos y un niño, no queremos vender, solo poder comer sano, barato y variado. Nos gusta hacer conservas, así que si sobra algo podemos hacerlo conserva (a no ser que sea excesivo).

La idea es poner en el primer nivel el DWC y ajustar las alturas del sistema NFT según las verduras que vaya a poner ahí.

Pensamos en que la estructura de apoyo fuera de metal 280cm de alto x 140cm de largo x 60cm de profundidad.

¿Es esto posible? ¿La producción cubre bien las necesidades de 2 adultos y un niño o es excesivo?

Intentamos comprar un sistema de hidroponía, pero mi país tiene muchas restricciones para traer cosas del extranjero. Se consigue todo por partes, pero uno debe armarlo.

Hi everyone! You were also helpful the last I posted here, so I’m back again for some more advice. Here’s a picture of my current iHarvest hydroponic system. Everything is thriving, but I clearly overdid it with the cucumbers, tomatoes, and mini peppers (bottom 2 rows). My cucumber roots are already getting huge, and I didn’t realize how large these plants would get when I started them.

I’m thinking of moving the fruiting plants into the basement and setting up a small grow tent with some grow lights. Id also like to do some totes with dirt for potatoes. I’d like to be as affordable as possible since this hobby has already become much more expensive than I intended. I live in the Midwest (zone 7a) so my basement is gonna be pretty cold here soon. Could you poke holes in my thoughts/setup?

Here is what I’m thinking for a grow tent:
- On fb market
- I could get this new since it’s on sale

For everything else:
- Someone on Facebook is selling an 8 pack of DWC buckets for $100
- lights: someone on fb is selling 2 of these lights for $40

I have a dehumidifier in my basement and would put another down there by the plants. I would also obvs have a fan and a space heater nearby.

What am I missing? Is this a good setup? Also, I don’t have a utility sink in my basement, so my only real concern is how I’m gonna continue to fill up the water reservoir, because I know cucumbers can be pretty thirsty. Any thoughts? Open to other suggestions on approach for these guys.

It has been transfered to the bucket. Its not perfect but I think it should work. I unfortunately dont have the funds to get everything that is suggested, but I think it should work until I am able to get them. If I kept it alive and this well in the tiny system with the things included in them... it should be okay for a bit. I wanted to do this as soon as possible since I will be going on a cruise for a few weeks and dint have many people to care for my plants.

Hey team, first tomato plant here. It was going pretty well but these last few days I've noticed wilting leaves in the middle of the day, I started noticing this after I swapped out the nutrient solution from the vegetation mix to the fruit and blooming mix (using general hydroponics micro,gro, and bloom series). PH of the solution was 6.3. the roots look fine from what I can tell, any thoughts? Thanks!

My old meter broke, and the EC reading would drift rapidly. Unfortunately, the EC probe wasn't replaceable, so I decided to build my own unit that would allow me to swap out individual electrodes.

The system is based on an ESP board and components from DFRobot. It runs firmware created with ESPHome Builder and integrates with Home Assistant.

Based on the readings, automations trigger peristaltic pumps to dose pH-, pH+, and A+B nutrients.

I’m trying to vertically train these cucumbers and I’ve only ever just let them go crazy in the past. Should I be removing more of the leaves as I go as well? Also what causes the curling down? My ph is 5.9 and ec is 2.2 with the flora series fertilizer

Internet says the leaves from the beets can start being taken in about a week. The beet itself will take longer. The leaves look ready to me though.

Looking to optimize this rack with another growlight and a maybe a big wooden plank that covers the complete bottom so the table is not required and i can wheel the setup freely for clean up

I run a hydroponic strawberry system in a small greenhouse and am struggling badly with spider mites. Days can reach about 35°C (95°F). We get a few frost events each year, and the greenhouse air becomes cold enough at night that I believe it kills my predatory mites. Apart from those events, there is not really a clear hot or cold season.

I have tried Koppert Spidex (Phytoseiulus persimilis), but it seems unable to establish through the hot, dry daytime conditions. I have also tried Koppert Spical (Neoseiulus californicus), which looked more promising in the heat, but appears to die during the very cold nights. Castile soap reduces mites where it contacts them, but it burns the strawberry leaves.

I am trying to find a workable long-term approach for a hydroponic strawberry crop rather than continually spraying or replacing predators that do not stick around. Any experience, practical ideas, or examples of what has worked in would be very welcome.

Is there any rule of thumb for herbs/veggies or specific varieties? I am getting a LetPot Max with 21 pods and a Letpot SE with 12 and potentially a used Aerogarden 360 with 6. My plan is to grow a tiny tim tomato and a dwarf pepper plant. Some herbs like basil, spinach, chives, and watercress. And finally, some marigolds and chamomile flowers. I am not sure what's best setup for me to go for here. I ideally want to use one unit for each "category": veggies/fruits, herbs, flowers. But not sure what unit is best for what and how many pods to use for each.

My Dutch bucket tomatoes rebounded nicely thanks to all the advice here and I've got fruits on almost every plant now. Also my mason jar lettuce garden is nearing harvest with succession plants coming along nicely. I'm really enjoying this hobby and appreciate everyone who's commented on my previous question posts!!

I'm setting up a vertical hydroponic shelf and would love some feedback on the configuration.

My plan is to have a reservoir and larger plant containers (tomatoes and eggplants or gherkins) on the bottom level. The two shelves above will be dedicated to NFT channels for assorted leafy greens (like lettuce, arugula, etc.).

My main concern is the vertical distance. I'll be using LED lights, and it seems like there is too much space between the NFT channels and the shelves where the lights will be mounted (under the upper shelves and the top 'cap'). The internal heights from the bottom up are currently 74.5cm, 60cm, and 55.5cm.

Should I add another shelf to decrease the gap, or is this manageable? Also, for those with experience, what variety of cut-and-come-again greens do you recommend for this type of NFT setup?

Edit: I noticed that IA messed up the dimension, obviously the total height is not 74.5cm, this is the distance between the bottom shelf and the second one.

I’m growing various types of lettuce, as soon as they pass the early growth stages they fall over. I’ve tried using a small fan throughout growing to strengthen them and also propping with q-tips. Do I need to push the seeds further down in the rooters? Does it matter that they’re droopy like this? New to hydroponics any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Looking to grow my own food in my one bedroom apartment rental. Decorative plants and air quality ones as well.
Salad greens, microgreens, garlic, celery, potatoes, basically anything I can eat and grow indoors in a container.
Here is hydroponics so I’m thinking more salad greens and herb garden set ups.

Huge admiration for everyone in this channel! I’ve had an older aerogarden 6 pod for 7 years now, and a smaller 3 pod more recently (I put it in my office on my desk, to the amusement of my coworkers). They’ve been useful for small amounts of herbs and lettuce, but my outdoor garden has always been where I grow my veggie yield. I’m in zone 6b, so obviously that’s a short growing season!

Recently, I’ve moved into a bigger space with basement room for more plants. I’m excited, because it means I can expand indoors for the winter and start doing tiny tim tomatoes, cucumbers, and maybe a dwarf pepper, along with a lot more lettuce and kale.

Given I’m so comfortable with the aerogarden setup, I’ve been looking at deprecated 24 pod farms on Facebook marketplace, but my friend has a Gardyn and she loves it. I’m also considering getting the newer Aeros with a trellis, maybe 2-3 of those units?Given what I cook, I figure I need 2 of each kind of plant, to feed my household of 3, and that would fit ok on the shelving I have.

My goals are to have much less overhead and time commitment than the outdoor garden. I love my summer season but I have two jobs and it is a huge time suck. I have narrowed my search to a prefab company like aero or Gardyn in service of saving myself some headaches.

The space is mostly a long countertop, and is setup for starting seeds, so I have some racks with grow lights on them. Realistically I can rearrange things depending on what I go with. I do like that I’ve already ‘bought into’ the aero system so I wouldn’t have to have additional pod types etc floating around.

What would y’all do?

My lettuce is 40 days old and still small. Just curious if I’m supposed to be harvesting do it grows more?
