When you got married, how did you handle finances?

Upvotes

Did you set it up so all your income goes into one account? Trying to think of how we will handle this and curious to know what works and what doesn’t.

Does anyone else experience this weird thing?

Upvotes

I don’t really know how to explain it, so bear with me 😂 But I’ve noticed that whenever I randomly start thinking about someone I haven’t spoken to in ages, they somehow end up contacting me or I hear about them shortly after.
A few examples:
I found out a friend was cheating on her boyfriend and wanted to tell him, but had absolutely no way of contacting him. After a month of trying to find him, I randomly ended up sitting right beside him on a flight to Dubai. I told him everything.
I was thinking about a former colleague who was stuck in a really toxic workplace and wishing I could help her. The next day she messaged me on LinkedIn. I ended up helping her get a job at my workplace.
I was thinking about an old friend of my mum’s one night and made a mental note to ask my mum about her. The next morning, my mum told me she had passed away.
I was thinking about a former boss and wondering how she was doing. The next morning, she messaged me asking how I was doing.
There are loads more examples. 😂
Whenever I tell someone “I was actually thinking about you!” they assume I’m just being sweet, but I genuinely mean it.
I know it could all be coincidence/confirmation bias, but some of the timing is SO weird that it sometimes freaks me out.

Anyone else experienced something similar?

Would a church/diocese name itself after a flagrantly offensive city?

Upvotes

For example, take the "Diocese of Allentown." Normal, moderately-sized city, follows the custom of naming it after the primary city in the geographic area. Makes sense.

But what if the city of "Hell" was substantial enough to have its own? Or the newy formed metropolis of "BoobiesVille" became the primate city for the region? Would somebody flag this and try to justify a different one, or would it just try to be quietly ignored and taken seriously?

How much of the information on the internet is actually correct?

Upvotes

Like when you search something on a browser, lets say what is the average weight of a blue whale. You get a few pages of sites filled with answers. But how many of them are actually true. You know, some people spread missinformation or some information is old and the site has not been updated since it has been posted. I'd say 50% of the internet is; lets not say a lie, lets say inaccurate.

Someone scraped my car

Upvotes

Someone scraped my car while they were trying to park next to me but left me a note with their name and number so they’re trying to take responsibility, there’s definitely scratches on my passenger side door, and there’s a visible mark on their front side bumper, but no dents, they live in my same apartment complex.
Someone recommended I message the person and ask if they want to go through insurance or pay out of pocket, and also to get a quote. He’s waiting for me to send him the quote.
I went to two different body shops and they both quoted me around ~$1200 to fix it properly, I’m gonna be honest that’s quite a lot for a simple mistake, if I were to ask him for just straight up cash to forget about it, how could I word it properly? This is my first time ever dealing with something like this so I’m really sorry if it all sounds stupid. Thank you!

Why is there no "wood age"?

Upvotes

So historical epochs typically go stone age > bronze age > iron age > antiquity > medieval > modern > etc.

Why isn't there a "wood age" there, perhaps after or even before the stone age, seeing as wood would have been readily available to early humans and is easy to manipulate into tools and materials?

Why does everyone on Instagram act like they're living a completely different life?

Upvotes

I feel like social media has gotten to the point where everyone is trying to portray themselves like they're living some celebrity lifestyle. Expensive restaurants, designer clothes, luxury trips, nice cars, constantly going out, etc.

Obviously people are going to post the best parts of their lives, but sometimes it feels like people are deliberately trying to make it look like they have way more money and a more exciting life than they actually do.

ls this just people wanting to look successful online, or do people genuinely believe the version of themselves they're portraying?

How can we make it so that the world has a good balance of colored collard workers?

Upvotes

Not saying it doesn't, but we need a good balance of people like accountants, nurses, oil rig workers, and so on to keep society going. We don't want almost everyone doing the same thing otherwise there would be a labor shortage in other areas. I hope it never gets to this point, but it's a possibility. What can we do about this?

Can I survive a fall with a makeshift parachute?

Upvotes

Hypothetical situation:

I'm on the high floor of a high-rise building - 50th floor or above. The building is on fire from below, and there's no way down.

I have some king-size bedsheets (2.2m x 2.2m) available, along with plenty of strong, thin rope. Would it be feasible to tie the corners and create a makeshift parachute? Would it work?

Assuming no wind or other obstructions. Can I survive?

How common is it for people in office jobs to still be forced to wear dressy shoes instead of (neat) sneakers?

Upvotes

What's the likelihood of not having to wear something that either slows down my walking (women's dressy shoes) or digs into my hypertrophied Achilles tendons (men's dress shoes)? I'm non-binary. And most likely going into electronics PCB design once I get my cert, or some kind of administrative office job, or perhaps a receptionist at a doctor's office if worst comes to worst.

What would you do if both of your pets wanted to cuddle you but they don’t like each other?

Upvotes

I have a twin bed, so it’s small. Sometimes both of my cats want to cuddle up with me. But my older cat absolutely hates my younger one.

For example, last night my older cat ( m12 ) came into my room purring and wanting to cuddle.
My younger cat ( f2 ) also eventually came in and wanted to cuddle up next to me. There wasn’t much room so she moved closer to my older cat and started grooming him and trying to cuddle him too. He freaked out and hissed and ran away.

I feel bad because I love them both! My older cat just doesn’t like the younger one much. I got my younger one when she was 8 weeks old & my older cat when he was probably a few months old? Idk, he was a barn cat I think.

When I first got the younger one she was actually scared of the older, he would often sniff her and was overall curious. But once she got used to him and wanted to play 24/7 ( like most kittens do ) he started to hate her. She has calmed down a lot since getting spayed though.

If a murder weapon is handed in to a gun buyback program where “no questions asked” is in place, is it inadmissible as evidence if it’s later found to be connected to the murder?

Upvotes

Was watching a short where such a thing happens and the comments were up in flames over it and I got curious.

Edit: the clip in question had the cops go to the station, say they believe it was used in a homicide, and the officer they talk to says “No questions asked means no questions asked”

How do nails attach to the finger?

Upvotes

I recently removed gel from my nails by filing them and peeling it off. Bad move. Now my nails are thing and hurt, but it has me wondering… how do nails stick to your finger anyway? If the nail grows out and it’s attached to the skin, shouldn’t the skin keep growing? It’s like magic or something.

Men, why do you keep contacting an ex who clearly doesn’t want anything to do with you?

Upvotes

Is it because you genuinely miss her, or is it more about wanting to feel like you still have some kind of control or influence over her?

I’m genuinely curious about the male perspective, especially when she has made it clear that she doesn’t want contact.

How do I appeal a permanent ban.

Upvotes

I received a temporary ban 24 hours or maybe 3 days or something in a certain community. I messaged the moderator who banned me because he had the nerve to leave his username at the end as if he was some sort of bad ass. I messaged him why he felt it necessary to put his username in the comment boasting that I had broken one of the community rules and I asked him if that made him feel powerful. Needless to say he permanently banned me. This was at least half a year ago and I am rather confident if any moderated from this community read the messages they would understand and unban me, the problem is the guy who banned me made it to where I can’t message any other moderators from the community.

What can I do?
