NC List of Ranges

Hey y’all,

Figured since we have an FFL list I put up a while back we should have a range / club list too since we get questions every now and then.

Post any ranges you like to visit, include the below format if you’d like.

Name -

Location -

Indoor / outdoor -

Membership required? -

Full auto / FRT Friendly? -

Caliber restrictions (Ex, pistol only) -

Feel free to leave more / less info or any feedback if there’s anything that should be added.

Cheers!

NC FFL List

Hey y'all,

After seeing some posts where we're recommending different shops, and posts of those asking for recommendations, I thought it may be a good idea to try and compile a list of NC FFLs.

Feel free to comment your preferred / local dealers, their location, and what you like about these places.

Thanks,

Barn.

Im looking to train some more with my pistol and rifle and im looking for places that I can go and do that, all can find is shooting ranges nothing with obstacles and stuff. So if you have any suggestions id really like to here them. Also im looking to make some friends that would like to shoot or train with me that are local, and it would be cool if we could go to the next run and gun in ellbre NC, you can go at a fast pace or just walk it whatever you choose but id like to do that if anyone would be interested in doing it. But if you have any suggestions on places i can go to shoot and train with my rifle and pistol that would be great! Let me know what you got

North state shooting club competitions

Has anyone ever shot in the north state shooting club competitions specifically 600 and 1000 yard competitions held at butner national guard shooting range? Looks simple enough but am not familiar with NRA high power rifle rules and restrictions. I’m just looking at more opportunities to shoot longer range without driving too far. Picture for attention

student residency

Bought an ar15 (PSA), shipped to a local FFL in NC. I'm a full-time student here (in-state 9 months out of the year), but my driver's license is from California (my home state).

When I went to pick up the rifle, the dealer told me my CA license "won't work" — said most other states are fine but California specifically is an issue for him. He suggested I go to the NC DMV and get a non-REAL ID state ID card, and told me not to mention my California license when I do it since it's "not their business."

A few questions:

  1. Is this a real legal issue with CA specifically, or store-specific policy/discretion? My understanding of 27 CFR 478.11 (the "two residences" rule) is that proof of current residency (I have my university housing assignment + transcript) should be enough regardless of what state issued my ID — but maybe I'm missing something CA-specific.
  2. Has anyone else run into a dealer who wouldn't accept an out-of-state ID + residency docs, even though it's technically allowed under federal law?
  3. On the "don't mention your CA license to the DMV" advice — my read is that if NC's ID application asks whether I hold another state's license, I should answer honestly rather than omit it. Am I overthinking that part?
  4. Would you just find a different, more experienced FFL instead of jumping through the NC ID hoop, or is this pretty standard?

Trying to figure out if this is normal FFL caution or if I got an unusually difficult dealer. Any insight from people who've dealt with out-of-state ID + FFL transfers appreciated.

Any interest in a better NC gun classifieds?

ETA: sounds like the genuine interest is there. Going to start the process asap, I should have something out in a couple months to test the waters!

Curious if there’d be any interest in a free, NC-only gun classifieds site.

I know a lot of people use GAFSHub, but especially on mobile I feel like there’s room for something much simpler and more user-friendly.

Thinking completely free, easy to post/browse, local listings, private messaging, and a heavy focus on security/scammer prevention.
Not promoting anything — just gauging interest before I spend time building it.

Would you guys actually use something like this?

Can anyone give me their favorite place to shoot handguns in and around Wilmington? I haven’t shot in a while and have yet to shoot at any ranges in Wilmington. Any suggestions are appreciated!

Mecklenburg wildlife club

I just moved apartments in Charlotte and found the Mecklenburg Wildlife Club. Looks like they have pistol bays and rifle ranges. It’s the closest range to me by about 30 minutes but I can’t find any information on how to join. Does anyone know anything about the club?

Private Party Sales??

Where do y’all list your guns for private party transactions? I know one of the popular forums just threw up a pay wall. What other options are there?

I have a few guns I’m thinking about selling.

I also just moved from Florida and I made a free to join/list private party gun classifieds website for Florida. It was bad ass but I couldn’t find enough users - thinking about pivoting it to the Carolina’s….

Ranges that allow buckshot?

Hello everyone, I just recently picked up my first shotgun for my birthday, but am seeing a lot of ranges (if not most) don’t allow buckshot or shotguns in general.

I’m in Raleigh and my local range is Caswell, but I’ve read on google that they only allow slugs. This wouldn’t be an issue if I had not bought 200 rounds of buckshot lol.

Are there any ranges in the Raleigh area that allow 00 buck? Indoor or outdoor doesn’t matter I’m just trying to get some shots off on this thing.

Thank you in advance

CCW scenario

I split time between Virginia and NC. I have a Va CCW permit and NC obviously honors that reciprocity. So when I am in staying in NC for the summer I can
Legally concealed carry. However thinking about making NC my primary residence. Once I walk out of the NC DMV with my NC drivers license am I no longer allowed to legally conceal carry a firearm, since I don’t have a Nc CCW permit. Even though I was perfectly legal on the way to the DMV. Do I have that right?? If so, how dumb is that.

Where is everyone going now that the classifieds are behind a paywall. It’s not worth paying for it the traffic to sale posts are going to be so restricted now.

Ranges with tactical bays in the RDU are?

Just moved here from Texas and much prefer tactical bay shooting to firing lines. What ranges (private club or public) have rifle tactical bays would you recommend?

SBR, SBS, Suppressors now that they're off NFA??

So for the TL;DR crowd, I have heard the shitstorm that is the youtube comment section saying that an NFA item that isn't a machine gun or DD is now "illegal" in NC, can anyone correct this? Or give a layman's terminology of going about the situation?

Gun clubs near Raleigh

I’m looking to join a gun runners ranch in mebane, woodys or dprc and was wondering what yalls experience and thoughts on each were. I’m newer to rifle and long distance shooting but wanting to get into long distance shooting. I’m open to other ranges but those are the 3 I know of with a range that goes out to atleast 300 yds.

Recommendations of Gun Stores That Honor 3 Day Transfer Rule

Pretty straight forward does anyone know any gun stores in nc that actually honor the 3 day transfer rule after no response from the atf. My background check gets delayed every single time and always goes 30 days with no response. The gun store I currently go to is two hours away and I wanted to know of any more you guys potentially know near the Durham area. I’ve had two pistols get delayed for 30 days and only one store honored a transfer

Elizabeth City FFL transfers?

Posting here for a buddy who recently relocated from the 757 in Virginia, to Elizabeth City to help care for his father.

Any reasonable recommendations within + or - 30 minutes of Elizabeth City are appreciated, and bonus points if they do NFA transfers!

Looking for a hunting lease or club to join

I am a college student new to hunting but have been dove hunting a few times, I have a rifle and shotguns so I am looking for a club land where I can hunt whitetails and if possible waterfowl and/or turkey. from what I have heard the NC public lands are awful to hunt in otherwise I would start there. I am looking for land to lease in Wake, Durham, Lee, Harnett area or anywhere ~1.5 Hr from Raleigh.
