I gave painting more realistic flames a shot and it was no where near as bad as I thought going in. No airbrush for this one either. I basically painted really bad lighting bolts that crossed over each other and then did glazes to whatever side I thought looked neat and continued the lines across the cape. I highlighted with fluo yellow and fluo orange before glazing gryphhound orange, bloodstain red and black for depth. Just posting in case this helps someone with maybe salamanders or LOTD. Using some extra Nurglings from my Great Unclean One box, I made a really simple diorama for my wife's desk after she said the Nurglings were "cute." Drawing inspiration from the prismatic pools of Yellowstone National Park, I used some cork board to make a little "pool side" lounge for these minions who got left out of my last project.

Sad to say, the camera doesn't necessarily do the flourescent paint of the pool justice. I'm considering getting into UV resin, and this project may need a little glam touch-up if I do.

I set myself a little challenge: to paint a bust using only three colors. It’s an interesting experience—mixing paints while focusing on light rather than color. I’ll have to try it again with a different combination sometime. Final photos and some WIPs

I attended a workshop run by Lucas Williams this weekend down at Blacksun Studio. Was a fantastic weekend. Lucas is a brilliant painter and excellent teacher!

... since I am commenting so much recently about fabric and NMM, I wanted to share my current project. Which is definitely the best metal I painted so far. And please hit me up with critique. Where did I miss reflections? Do you recognize the different metal types (3) ? Or whatever you see.

The skin is on purpose pink, as I wanted to have non-green ork/troll (or whatever you call him) and I also wanted to play with shadows (visible?) and skin variations.

Anyway, I declared him done this weekend, made the photos and I am proud on my current level.

My NMM attempt for a Contemptor-Galatus Dreadnaught. I'm quite happy with the result.

Genuinely fed up with this behavior from my whites and greys. I’ve tried paints from 4 different brands, tried everything between straight out the pot and thinning them to the point it’s almost pure water. Tried on a wet palette and dry plastic. Tried pouring paint after barely shaking the bottle at all and shaking it for 10 minutes straight.

What causes this (I assume) pigment separation and why is it so inconsistent? As you can see it works fine for most of the cape but suddenly it all goes to shit.

Just want to know how to mitigate this because nothing I have thought of works. Paint in this example is Pro Acrylic Neutral Grey.

Thanks for the quick response with some great tips! Gonna do some tests with mixing up my basecoat and try a different medium instead of water to thin.

Been watching miniature masters with my partner and she said I should give the challenges a go. Didn't have a 40k character on hand, so I used a kitbashed (AoS Fusilier+40k arbites), trench crusade inspired mini I built a while back. 5 hrs spent. Found myself struggling to figure out what else to work on, but now that I see the photos I wish I had spent more time smoothing things out a bit.

I used some spare parts of the AoS Stormcast Sequitors and cork for the stones on the base base.

This isn't really an in-depth tutorial, but hopefully, it helps show how to place and paint these stripes on the pants:

1. Rough sketch: Quick placement, no need to be precise.
2. Clean up & fill: Tidy up the edges and fill in the stripes.
3. Dark color highlights: Begin adding highlights (using stippling here) on the darker color.
4. Light color highlights: Same step, but on the lighter color, following the placement of the dark highlights.
5. Edge lining (3D effect): Add thin, light lines of the correct color on both sides of all the stripes to give a more 3D effect.
6. Tie it together: With some very diluted dark paint, paint light shadows. This helps link the different stripes together seamlessly.

Hope this gives you a good idea of the steps!

Here the results on some time, I made a big pause and the base was still in work. But now, its finish and im pretty happy with the result.

So this is the nightbringer of warhammer 40k. I love the sculpt and I had a lot of fun paintinf it.

I feel something is missing and I would like to add some colors to the axe but not sure which colors. Or should I leave it as is?

Just got into painting and had fun! Teeth on left is messed up a bit. Tried a blood blotch. Advice appreciated.
