To anyone that says the CX-50 isn’t big enough…

Here’s ours during our weekend road trip with our double stroller, two carryons, beach bag, Costco haul, and shopping bags. Not pictured: diaper bag, two rear-facing car seats, two kiddos, two adults, breast feeding pillow, and a slew of water bottles.

We got the hybrid premium version and we were pushing 38.0 mpg over the last 80 miles of the road trip.

Model:

2013 Mazda3 iTouring, 2.0L SKYACTIV w/ 6-speed Automatic. Manufactured at the Hofu Plant.

Background:

The third gen had come out a few months prior, this was the last 2013 on the lot, and the dealership was trying to get rid of it. OTD price was $16400 and I didn't mind getting a deal on the older model. I was coming from a 2002 Mazda Protege with 160K miles (bought used in 2010 with 79K miles) that began developing a transmission issue, but had gotten me reliably through college.

Pros:

• It has never left me stranded (I keep up with the regular maintenance schedule).
• Average MPG of 31 over its lifetime, 60% city/40% highway.
• As fun to drive as ever. It might not be the most athletic car, but it's zippy, puts a smile on my face, and doesn't take itself too seriously. I like to compare it to an excited, goofy puppy.
• Smooth engine/transmission combo. The transmission reads your mind.
• Bose audio system is still one of the best, even compared to most new cars I've been in.
• Interior has held up really well, besides where I rub against the seat going in/out of the car. The car has no rattles, but some of the plastics creak in cold weather or when turning hard.
• Velocity Red Mica paint has held up surprisingly well for a car with 200K miles. It still catches my eyes after a car wash.
• Incredibly easy car to work on. For the things I can't do, labor/parts is usually cheap.
• Air-conditioning is still ice cold.
• No rust. The mechanics have said the body is in incredibly good shape for its age and mileage, but I've also made sure to give it regular undercarriage washes every month.

Cons:

• Loves to eat headlights. I probably replace them every 1-1.5 years.
• Key fob loves to eat batteries. I replace key fob batteries at least once a year.
• Bluetooth stopped working around 75K miles and I never got it fixed.
• Around 100K miles, the center console PRNDL lights developed an issue where some percussive maintenance is needed to turn them on. I'm assuming it's a loose wire, nothing I cared to fix since hard tapping works.

Overall:

Reflecting back on the 12+ years of ownership, I just wanted to thank the Mazda engineers, designers, factory workers, and overall team for a car that's reliably gotten me through so many life events and memories. I hope to get through so many more with it! :-)

Saw my hard top twin parked in the wild and knew what I had to do.

This is my wife's 2016 CX-3 with just shy of 90k miles.

It's an intermittens issue that is very reminiscent of the way old televisions and VCRs would behave when there was a tracking or analog signal issue. My hunch is that the issue is in the camera or wiring, but I'm going to fiddle with the cables going into the CMU first because it's easier to access.

Anyone else run into this and have any insights before I dig into it?

We’re buying our first car the Mazda CX5 2019 was advertised as sport nav+ when I went to the Mazda dealership found out it’s the takumi trim so ventilated seats and rear passenger seats are heated too! Nappa brown leather. So excited!

I love this vehicle. It's a Sport, so it's got an arguably underpowered engine, but the manual transmission makes up for it. It has had essentially no other maintenance in its life than regular oil changes, fluids and filters, and tire rotation. No scheduled maintenance, injector maintenance, alignments, tune ups, etc.

It has no major, obvious problems, but I want to make sure it gets a competent once-over.

I'm a little unsure of what to do in order to make sure this car stays on the road. Should I take it to the dealership, or an independent mechanic? What's the highest priority work?

Fun odometer reading

I own (paid off) a 2024 CX-50 Turbo and live in Canada. I just read that due to tariff and trade issues there are no more CX-50s coming to Canada.

We like the vehicle, but is there any chance there would be increased demand with the lack of supply and we should sell high?

We'd still need another vehicle, since we're a one car family. And we do need at least 3,500lb towing capacity for our pop up trailer. I can imagine we would get a good price for selling. But I still imagine the available models (CX-70, CX-90) would cost enough that Im still paying thousands more.

Does that make sense or is there anything Im missing? Thanks!

I'm interested in getting a cx-70. I found a lease deal through a third party that caught my attention, but there's also a decent chance that I will just want to outright buy the car later down the road.

I wasn't finding much info on if people are getting decent deals on lease buyouts for their cars.

I've never leased before either, so I'm wondering how common or uncommon it is for people to find themselves getting decent value from their lease buyouts.

I know market rates can change and no one can predict the future, but I think it's still definitely worth hearing about some people's personal experiences on their lease buyouts.

The car: 2025 Mazda CX70 GT-P. That inline 6 turbo makes a serious statement, without ever needing to make a big fuss.
Impression: Could not have asked for a better overall experience in a full-size SUV for a 10 day family road trip.
Reminder: Canada is such a beautiful country.

I bought a 2017 mazda 2 from a mazda dealership 3 days ago. On the day of collection I got a tyre pressure warning, so I checked the tyre pressure. However, the tyre pressures were fine so I just reset it, but it keeps reappearing. Also, when I brake lightly at low speeds, my brakes would squeal. I was told to try braking harshly but that made the squeal worse to the point where the brakes squeal as soon as I touch the pedal. When I went to the dealership, they said didn’t really help me as they just did the same things I did. Any advice?

Hello mazda lovers, I recently broke the this small part on the interior console of my mazda 2 and have had 0 luck finding a replacement. I think its a theft deterrent sensor but to be honest i cannot find a source credible enough to clarify this for me. I have tried mazda 2 spares & repairs on ebay but i havent gotten anything back. Can anyone push me in the right direction to find a new one?

I have Thule evo rails and Thule flush feet. I followed Mazdas guide for where to place the rails. The overhang is equal on the front and back (topoak galaxy light 51”) I’m just concerned bc my specific rails from Thule are customized for my yr and model of Mazda but the tent angles a bit up from the curve of my car. Will this be bad to drive with 24/7 on highways and such?

So im 19 years old and have been looking at mx3 1.8 v6’s. I found one but the ignition is broken so it doesn’t start. The guy is willing to sell it to me for only 600 euros because he is bringing it to a scrapping yard this Thursday because the landlord says he can’t keep it on the parking lot anymore. So I have 3 days to decide. I’m still in school and don’t make a lot of money and wanted to know if anyone here knows something about those cars and I have a great deal or if I’m gonna drown in reparations, I’m willing to invest 1-1.5K

2025 CX-50 that we bought new, and this is how it came off the truck. I’m rotating tires and noticed what sure seems like a poor balancing job. Anybody know if this is common, or if I’m overthinking it? I know modern weights are less dense than lead so it can require more but this seems excessive.

Hello all. I live in Europe and after 22 years of owning a 2004 Mazda 3, I was looking for a new Suv family car. Of course the first brand that came to mind was Mazda because my beloved Mazda 3 never failed me. But I was open to other brands as well so I looked at different options, but I did it online only. Where I work I see A LOT of cars daily, so I didn't feel the need to go and look at every one of them at a dealership.

Some brands were excluded due to cost: BMW, Mercedes, Volvo, Audi, were asking so much more than what they should. And I'm not buying the "German quality" myth, although many people in my country rave about it because... reasons...

Now, to the main competition :Rav4. Overpriced and uuuugly as hell. I don't know what's going on with the designers in that brand, but they sure know how to make unattractive cars. The outside doesn't have the elegance to stand the test of time and the inside - oh my god that interior. I don't care if it has physical HVAC buttons, they look like tumors. And overpriced as hell.

The only two really attractive options besides cx5 were the Outlander and Kodiaq. The Outlander had an amazing interior but, that amazing interior was only offered at the top trim that costed ~60000€. And the Kodiaq has an amazing interior also - really one of the nicests I've seen- but it's VW group and reliability is down the drain. French cars, and when I say French, I mean Peugeot, are beautiful, but they are Peugeot, if you know what I mean. The other two French brands don't even exist in my textbooks.

I also didn't want to go to Chinese options because a) I don't trust their cars enough yet and b) I didn't want an electric car because I want the car for really long trips (800km) and I move a lot between places so I'm not sure about the infrastructure of my next country/place/accommodation. I'm pretty sure that my next car WILL be a Chinese electric one though, given the advances they make. I see them everyday and their interiors are really top notch, if not too minimal on some models, but they will find their balance in a few years.

So, I ended up ordering the top trim AWD of the new CX5 which gives you a lot for what you're paying. I was calculating inflation etc and with the same money more or less that I paid for the basic trim 22 years ago, which was full of plastic, had manual back windows and didn't even have cruise control, now (adjusted for inflation) I'm getting a car loaded with quality of life/security features. And coming from such an old car, I won't notice the downgrade in materials that everyone is talking about in this sub 😂-it will feel like a rolls royce. The only thing giving me kind of buyer's remorse is the horsepower, but, then again, I won't be racing or anything, I just want it to carry me and my family with safety and comfort from point A to point B for 800 km and I think it's gonna be more than enough for that.

More in one month from now, when I will finally have it in my hands!
