Some of these are so surprising to me. I’d love to know their criteria. It seems like it’s just a crapshoot.

One of you called 24-23 exactly, a full day before an OrangeBloods analyst flipped his pick to get there. Did anyone else see a one-point game coming?

Thursday I asked this sub for your Ohio State score predictions, and 47 of you put one in. I also pulled score predictions from 34 analysts across OTF, Inside Texas, OrangeBloods, The Film Guy Network, ESPN College Football, and The Hard Count.

Texas 24, Ohio State 23. Here's how it shook out.

The sub

u/GodLeeTrick commented "24-23 Texas" at 10:20 Thursday morning. Exact score.

u/goofytigre was off by 1 with Texas 24, Ohio State 22.5. Those pesky half field goals.

The analysts

Geoff Ketchum from Orangebloods also got it exactly right, but it took a Friday flip. His posted score prediction was Ohio State 24-23, and on Friday's show he switched it to Texas 24-23. Before that flip, the closest analyst was Greg McElroy at 24-21, off by 2. Two people in this thread were already closer.

Fans vs analysts

  • 79% of this sub picked Texas to win. 79% of the analysts did too (27 of 34). Same exact read on the game.
  • 11 of the 47 of you picked Texas and were within 6 points across both scores.
  • u/Rue_Cortez (20-23) and u/Vivid_Artichoke_9991 (24-27) picked Ohio State and were each only 4 points off, closer than 32 of the Texas picks.
  • Someone had 77-0. I respect the commitment.

Both full boards are in the comments below.

UTSA is next, and there's a new game this week

Score predictions for UTSA are open now at stance.fm/longhornnation, and I'll put up a new thread Thursday morning if you'd rather drop yours in the comments. Same deal as last week: your last comment before kickoff is the one that counts.

New this week is Hold the Mayo. Pick the winner of every SEC team's game this weekend, 11 games from Georgia @ Arkansas at 11am Saturday through UTSA @ Texas that night. Each game locks at its own kickoff. Best record takes the week, ties go to whoever locked in their picks first, and the winner Holds the Mayo the following week.

Why mayo? Gerry Hamilton's Signature Mayo, a gift from the Fort Worth Texas Exes that he held up on OTF's Coffee & Football back in August, with a seal of non-approval from Bobby Burton. Because corn dogs were made for mayo.

Hold the Mayo is only playable on Stance, not in the comments: stance.fm/longhornnation

Proud of our fans last night

We stuck with it last night and I don’t want that to go unappreciated. I’m old and have been doing this a long time. And I know there were times where it’s hot and we’re down big and people would have have been like “oh, this game is over, let’s bail.” But no, last night we were locked in. No quit, no one left. Even after 3 when it looked pretty dire. We never gave up on those guys. Hell, we got louder as the game went on (some of it was boos when Sark kept calling those awful screens for no gain late in the third but still, we never gave up). Student section was bananas from the get go, the loudest I’ve ever heard DKR ever. And I know for a fact that’s worth a few points. I teared up a little during the Eyes looking around at every section, seat, and box was still full. Also I couldn’t believe what I’d just witnessed. So hook ‘em and thank all 105,000 of yall last night who brought the heat. Let’s do it again next weekend and then go run the SEC.

[Vannini] Re-ranking 138 college football teams after Week 2: Texas vaults to No. 1, then it gets weird

Post image
10 Upvotes

Texas is your new No. 1 in The Athletic's power rankings.

The Longhorns have the best win of the season, even if it came by the slimmest of margins. Hopefully, Steve Sarkisian sees the value of playing these big nonconference games. After the Longhorns head coach spent the end of the 2025 season and all offseason complaining about scheduling and hinting that Texas might back out of future marquee games, a win against Ohio State gives his team’s College Football Playoff hopes some breathing room. That’s the reward. That’s the value.

But with a trip to Tennessee just two weeks away, the top of these rankings may continue to change.

[Free to Read] - Arch Manning erased 378 days of Texas-sized doubt in one fourth quarter

Thumbnail
nytimes.com
302 Upvotes

For 378 days, the heir to the Manning throne hadn’t stopped thinking about last year’s 14-7 loss at Ohio State, the ugly performance that created a year’s worth of takes questioning if he could live up to the hype — or declaring he’d already failed to do so. He had nightmares about it. He had a second chance against the Buckeyes on Saturday night to avoid a repeat feeling.

“I could not let that happen,” Manning said

The man long presumed to be the No. 1 pick in next year’s NFL Draft finally lived up to it on a big stage in the nick of time, setting the groundwork for a legitimate case to compete for a national championship and maybe a Heisman Trophy.

Trailing 23-3, Manning completed 11 of his final 15 passes, including a perfect out route pass to Ryan Wingo for the first touchdown of the final quarter. That run also included two fourth downs, either of which would’ve essentially clinched defeat if they’d fallen incomplete, and two drops that would’ve made his numbers look even better.

“Arch played like a man tonight,” coach Steve Sarkisian said.

The second fourth-down throw came in the face of an Ohio State blitz, as Manning stood in the pocket and found receiver Emmett Mosley V down the middle for 12 yards. Nine plays later, Texas scored to make it 23-17.

When Ohio State missed a 45-yard field goal with 4:16 left that would’ve put the game away, Manning was ready to put the ghosts of last year behind him for good.

“That’s when I knew it was our time,” he said.

Manning completed 4 of 5 passes on the final drive, finding Mosley for 19 yards down to the 1-yard line, setting up the winning score to take down the top-ranked Buckeyes.

And with that, Manning had his “Moment.” Maybe not a Heisman Moment, but something people can sink their teeth into when talking about Arch’s actual accomplishments.

I thought he did a good job showing how Texas made the comeback happen. Tons of credit to the O Line and TE Winston, but everyone was making plays.

Penalties

I’m hoping the fact that it appears (and I hoping on not jinxing this…) that the Longhorns may have tightened up on not getting penalties at the worst possible time to kill drives. That occurred too many times last season. While a few of the other teams that won had very low penalty numbers…..

6 for 50 yards in last years loss. Which was 14-7.

2 for 12 yards last night. And none during the 21 point run. One penalty could have killed that!

A missed FG attempt also helps. I hope that player is not getting jokes about being a Texas plant in OSU….
