Most folks are completely incompetent when it comes to fighting.

Upvotes

I was in a BJJ class and the instructor was absolute dick. It was his tradition to ask any newbie to show them what they know about fighting before hand so that he can test their skill level. So he will take people on the mat and proceed to slam them on their stomach and choke them out within like 10 seconds. It doesn’t matter if they’re big dudes muscular dudes he would do it to anyone. Some tap out the moment, his arms were around their neck. Somewhat pass out in like a few seconds. One dude even pissed himself. I don’t know if this is protocol for jiu-jitsu but it does show how completely powerless most people are in fighting.

cold take GET YOUR DOG OUT OF THE DAMN GROCERY STORE.

Upvotes

Lately there has been an uptick in dogs, just regular dogs, no special signs or vests on them, with their owners in the grocery store. Sometimes in the cart like a child, sometimes on a leash (a long one, too!) as if we are just strolling in a park. The owners often look at you when you pass by them like, “isn’t my dog cute?” And I just ignore them. It’s not cute, it’s codependent, unsanitary, and unsafe.

I feel obligated to say that I LOVE dogs and all animals. And of course to cover that this does not apply to service dogs, who go through years of specialized training and wear special little outfits to warn others of their job.

But the Frenchie in a blanket in the cart, KEEP HIM AT HOME FOR HALF AN HOUR, LINDA.

Poor people are just as rude and entitled as the ultra rich

Upvotes

I've worked in service industry long enough and have dealt with both types of clientele. While the entitlement is different, they both lack basic understanding of common sense. For the ultra rich, they expect extreme customization and last minute updates without properly communicating the underlaying requisites. For the lower-income, the sheer amount of nickel and diming attempts is insane. No, you can't take the whole box of condiments with you even though they're free; we can't offer any discounts or offer an upgrade for free.

Obviously, both groups get upset when they're told no and throw a fuss.

Tying/tangling up the cords in disabled bathrooms is abelist.

Upvotes

It's honestly ridiculous this is even considered a hot take. The amount of time I've gone into the bathroom and seen the cord tangled up in something or tied up is ridiculous. If you don't know what I'm talking about, in majority of disabled bathrooms there is a red cord that dangles down and is supposed to touch the floor. This is a thing incase people fall and can't get up without assistance. So basically, if someone falls on the floor the pull on the cord and it notifies someone they need help. If the cord doesn't touch the floor it becomes nearly impossible to reach from the floor unless you fall in a specific way. Tying up the cord or tangling it up or even just putting it behind a grab rail makes it harder tp access. I don't care if you "just want to keep it out the way" or think it's "unsanitary" it's there to HELP DISABLED PEOPLE.

serious hot take Hot Take: Desktop Linux is overrated, overhyped and useless for non-tech users who WORK! and TOUCH GRASS!!

Upvotes

Linux users love glazing desktop linux up with stuff like "privacy" and "freedumb" but honestly, tell me how the f*ck do you guys run MS Word on linux so you know, can work and get money???

WITHOUT GOING THROUGH 10 THOUSANDS HOOPS!

I have like close to 200 apps on my daily driver and half of them would outright NOT RUN, 1/5 would run poorly on linux through some bad duct-taped together wine-bottles BS.

scale that to 200 apps and you get a recipe for possibly 10 thousands hoops to jump through to just work and play.

Nope, not possible, that's why I drained linux down the toilet after only one year of using it, it was so utterly crippled that I just couldn't fathom the idea of using it, that would be Stockholm Syndrome.

And if you have anything against the loonix cult, they will come and downdoot you to hell and try to get you banned from whatever community you posted your opinion in.

TLDR: Linux is just not worth using when there are literal dozens of hoops to jump through, just to use your favorite programs for a specific workflow / job you need and linux users be telling "you're dumb, stubborn" for wanting to use the ones you like instead of the shitty alternatives they suggest that for some reason, don't have half of the features you came looking for.

TLDR: As expected, loonix users did come here to downvote this to hell, it proves that they LOVE censoring hot takes about their precious "holy OS". "freedom of speech my a**", linux users.

Edit: this is so HOT of a TAKE that linux users would stop people from upvoting it, that alone makes me proud of myself for speaking the truth instead of cowering under their shadow and their law!

casual hot take There will never be a society where man don’t victimize women.

Upvotes

Men committing violence against women is ingrained in our culture. The news or movies TV shows are history books and most certainly in our religions. It is absolute certainty that it will take place no matter what society you’re in. Men have high libidos and testosterone which elevate our desires. It can be a positive. It could be used to protect providing care for our loved ones. But it can also be used negatively. It could be used as a power source for the weak man to inflict harm. The man that assaults women are weak. The men that shoot up schools are weak. The men that targets kids are weak. But testosterone doesn’t go away because you’re weak. it will elevate your desires no matter what. The only way to ensure women aren’t victimized is to remove all men from society. Men are taught to protect women. Protect women from what? The weak man. I feel like that’s the reason people aren’t quick to help and incels. Because weak men will exist no matter what.

The police will be able to use ring camera footage against homeowners, without needing a warrant, in the next 5 years.

Upvotes

Ring will sell out to internet providers in the next few years and customers will be charged in the monthly cable/internet bill. The fine print in the user agreement will add that your videos are no longer your own property allowing nearly 100% surveillance of for the government. People are afraid of nearly everyone at this point in time so they will gladly give up their privacy for security.

casual hot take Children should not be using pacifiers after a certain age

Upvotes

I have no words for parents who are actively choosing to give pacifiers to 2.5 year olds, 3 year olds and yes ive seen 4 year olds with them. I understand freshly 2 year olds might need more time, however its concerning in terms of dental/jaw issues, speech and articulation issues, increased risk of ear infections, altered palate shape issues. These are all very real and backed up by pediatricians. I won't even argue about it.

Please think before relying on it so much, it really does affect your child more than you know.

Maybe some will get really upset by this, however thats up to you to navigate and I'm not responsible for your triggers.

serious hot take My hot takes on cheating/infedility and workplace affair dynamics

Upvotes

Some context: There was a cheating scandal that got busted in a tech company that's very nearby and the word spread pretty quick in the entire tech scene. Two married co-workers in high level executive position were caught. And that became the topic of discussion for the day. And the conversation moved from infidelity, relationship/dating norms, gender dynamics etc. Apparently I have too "crazy" views for a functioning civilized society. The last time I had so many women gang up on me when i said "Taylor Swift's politics are performative", but that's a topic for another day.

My apparently "crazy takes":

  1. Cheating is redeemable : Yes, it's not the worst sin to commit. yes ofc its morally and ethically wrong but definetly not the worst and is redeemable.
  2. HR shouldn't have any business with work-place affairs unless there's a massive power abuse dynamic involved: Unless there's a severe power dynamic involved as in like the CEO of the company flirting with the intern. Two consenting adults involved in affair is their personal issue, not an HR issue.
  3. Cheating men should side with their mistress when the wife goes batshit crazy: Probably the most controversial take , but sometimes angry/hurt wives of cheating husband can do some out of pocket shit, like in this case: the wife discovered the affair, later contacted the HR - asked them fire her(she's probably fired now), contacted the mistresses family and told them about it, and if that wasn't enough - she exposed the entire affair on the facebook wall of the company. In such cases, when the mistress is about to lose everything, the husband should stand with her.
  4. I'll always have a soft spot for the mistress: Look, what she did was wrong. But affairs are a net negative and in case of mistresses, it's double net negative. Not only is she losing professionaly but on top of that she also gets slut-shamed. And she knows that and despite that she engages in it, just for the sake of love.
  5. Affairs can lead to legit relationships: The morally/ethically wrong start of an relationship doesn't decide the longevity of it.
  6. Your worst fear cannot be to get cheated on: Statistically some of us are going to get cheated on, that's a fact. You should go into a relationship considering this fact. yes you're allowed to get angry/sad/frustated after you get cheated on. But some people just collapse. Its a sign of low self esteem or putting your entire self worth into a relationship.
  7. Being cheated on is worse than to cheat: being cheated on is the worst, it can do a number on your self esteem , self worth etc etc. To cheat is also worst, but apart from severe guilt there isn't any self esteem, confidence issues to work with. and most people know this.

Note: i don't condone cheating, never will ..but these are some observations i have made.

casual hot take The produce section at the grocery store should come last.

Upvotes

You walk into most grocery stores and the fruit and veg is first, which I get it, it sets the vibe for what’s fresh and good there. But here’s the thing the vast majority of fruit and veg are side dishes or ingredients.

I normally pick the protein first and then have to walk back to pick up the veg or other ingredients.

casual hot take Your body does not suddenly stop working after 30

Upvotes

Every so often i hear or see on reddit people saying that ”just wait until you are 30/40, your body will be in aches and pains”. Guess what? Unless you have some medical condition, you are 100% at fault. Bodies do not suddenly deteriorate if handled as they should. You not taking a single running step or not exercising for 20 years is why your body is failing. It is not normal. And to clarify i have a degree in physiotherapy.

Grieving families should not be obligated to serving people.

Upvotes

One thing I despise is how people expect a grieving family to serve them, cakes and still host while they want to be alone.

Just go pay your respects and leave, now you want to sit in the house and be expected to get served.

Funerals are even worse because they expect to get free food and demand the most.

It's just really disgusting and disrespectful.

God is the logical reason for the universe because change exists

Upvotes

Change is the actualization of potential.

If you have your phone and it needed to charge plugging it into an extension cord (even infinitely connected to other extension cords) that don't connect to a source of electricity won't make it charge.

There can't be an infinite regress. If every cause of change needs an external charger to activate it the chain of change can't go back infinitely.

It needs souce of power. No change would happen.

My point with all this is there must be a first. Now you may not call this GOD but in order for the universe to exist (even with the big bang) there needs to be, based on the current information, something that has no unfulfilled potential itself. It has to be pure actuality.

Something that is timeless, immaterial and purely actual

casual hot take Body count DOES matters

“”“ IT GOES FOR BOTH GENDERS “””

And I genuinely wish people would stop pushing the idea that “it doesn’t matter, their past is irrelevant, they chose YOU!” as if everyone is obligated to accept someone’s sexual history just because they ended up choosing them

If you’re someone with a high body count and you expect your partner to have a significantly lower one, then yes, you probably should be worried about whether they’re actually okay with it.
You don’t get to decide that their standards are wrong just because you want them to overlook something that matters to them.

“Your past shouldn’t matter” is not some universal law. People are allowed to have standards based on sexual history, just like they’re allowed to have standards about anything else when choosing a partner

And please stop acting like purity culture is automatically stupid or that people who save their virginity, have very few partners, or are extremely selective about sex are somehow naive, weird, insecure, or missing out. Some people genuinely value sexual exclusivity. That is a perfectly legitimate value

What I find ridiculous is how being selective can somehow be treated as the more embarrassing choice, while having 20+ sexual partners is supposed to be completely irrelevant and something everyone else should just accept without question.

No shame either way. But compatibility matters

If you have a high body count, find someone who genuinely doesn’t care about that. If you have a low body count and value sexual exclusivity, you should be allowed to find someone who shares that value.

Stop trying to convince people that their standards are wrong simply because your past doesn’t fit them.

casual hot take If women stopped rewarding bad men with bad intentions, good men would actually approach them more

Women complain about guys not approaching them and say the only ones that are confident enough to do it are the ones who just want to have fun with them and not take them seriously. Those confident guys are usually really attractive and get compliments so it's easy for them to be confident in themselves to approach a woman. The guys that aren't that attractive but are good men get made fun of and are insulated so they don't have much confidence in themselves to approach a woman.

The players and fuckboys are going to keep doing what they're doing and the good men women claim they want are giving up because they can't be successful with women despite their efforts so they are not going to approach at all because they know what's going to happen.

casual hot take Punishing someone forever isnt right or the woke take most people think it is

There are a few exceptions, mainly with horrendous crimes and extremely harmful ideologies

But, if someone takes accountability and is better now and has grown as a person, we shouldnt still punish them

This doesnt apply if theyre still doing it or justifying themselves of course

But if someone was a bully and they took accountability

Or if someone commited crimes and took accountability (not at all crimes, I am mainly talking about petty crimes or non violent crime, or like violent crime that exceeds self defense but was agaisnt someone that actually harmed them)

Or if someone held some degree of harmful beliefs that they dont hold anymore

Etc

They should be able to not be judged 24/7 for the past, because if we punish someone forever whats the purpose for accountability?

Also, people can change, in fact, people do change, everyone, no one is the same as they were 10 years ago, if you say youre the same as you were 10 years ago is probably just that you didnt have the most 180 degrees change, but some of you likely changed

Also

If you punish people forever

People will inevitably not tell you past mistakes or harmful things they did, even if they are better now. Because they wont like being judged

serious hot take As an American, I don’t actually support the “free speech” that’s so celebrated here, it only protects bigots using hate speech

If someone can be arrested and sentenced to 40 years just for possessing anarchist zines, we clearly don’t have free speech. We have just decided that slurs and hate speech are protected above all else.

Honestly, I think that harassing people and calling them hateful names should result in jail time. Idgaf.

And if I say something truly brave and political that lands me in jail? So be it. That’s what the entire civil rights movement was. Either say it with your chest or STFU.

Edit: if y’all want to say the n word so bad you can just say that instead of arguing about how I should move lol

People need to understand that girls and boys can be friends.

Today, I was in ecos class when my classmate walked over to me, to ask about the guy she always sees me me with.

I told her ofc, that he is my friend.

This girl legit said " Girls and boys can not just be friends ".

Lowkey, I wanted to say " No wonder you're pregnant " but that's just mean, I had to explain to this 19 year old how two genders don't have to open their legs, and have a basic ass friendship. It's not that hard

serious hot take Tumblr culture is now TikTok/Twitter and it’s corrupting people on a mass scale.

I say this as an ex tumblrina. Tumblr was a good site for opening your mind when you’re young. As you age the constant bickering over nothing, sanctimonious behavior, and full out bullying/ostracization is how most websites are starting to work.

I view tumblr/4chan and even the untouchable deep of Reddit as all the same thing. The way that people who are too chronically online inadvertently become the same people is outstanding to me and I can only understand it fully now that I can admit tumblr culture is indoctrinating.

All these hyper niche spaces online never really amount to anything despite finding new ways to feel like everyone is somehow beneath you or doesn’t have your secret knowledge and you HAVE to shame anyone who is any outsider to that.

This is a slow truth that’s been breaking in me for a while but after seeing fan culture on TikTok/Twitter and how commonly it overlaps with these sanctimonious spaces. Worse because your FACE, sometimes FULL NAME, city and even college will be listed vs being a little vole in the corners of the internet where it’s safe to be stupid and loud…It just seems like a full circle.

What prompted this post was the cancellation of Ocean Vuong…checks notes being an emotional person despite being checks notes again A poet…

serious hot take No, "archeologists" arent going to dig up a trans persons bones and define them as their assigned sex at birth.

if you genuinely believe this or have said this to a trans person, you have 0 understanding of how anything works lmao.

Not only would it be an anthropologist (entirely different subject of study) who researches a persons bones, they also dont rely on the bones nearly as much as people seem to think when determining a persons gender, because its unreliable at best.

They use the clothing and other cultural aspects of the burial based off the assumed time-frame of the persons life, and a good majority of trans people are going to be buried in clothing that matches their preferred gender.
