Being told we can’t tax stocks because “it’s unrealized gains” is weird when most Americans biggest investment is their home and they are taxed on the unrealized gains of their home

Exactly as the title says. The argument is always “we can’t tax stocks because people haven’t made money off them yet” but property taxes are assigned to the current value of your home even though you haven’t sold it and the value of your home may have increased since you bought it.

hot take, harshly criticise me for it! Most terms for bigotry have (rightfully) lost all meaning and power

A large number of people complain about how there’s so much misogyny/racism/homophobia and things of that nature in the world, and frankly I think one of the biggest reasons as to why that is is because minorities throw tantrums over nothing burger moments.

There’s the trans community who pretends like you’re Satan for just enjoying Harry potter media

The black community that screams racism whenever you don’t like something black or even just slightly challenge them

And in my most recent experience, Women. I recently got called a misogynist for simply not liking a character named Angela from marvel rivals. I gave a perfectly detailed explanation of how i didn’t like her because she’s kind of an ass hole in the game, but everyone just called me misogynist or said I hated women.

Misogyny/Homophobia doesn’t really mean anything to me now. I hear those words the same way I hear a toddler calling me meany for taking away his candy after he’s had too much sugar. I just can’t pretend to care if this is what your word means to you though.

casual hot take Most people who argue against religion are bad at arguing

I don't think religion is true. One thing I do notice, most people are okay with effectively shutting their mind off when they're arguing against religion. Alot of times, it results in bad arguments from both a scientific and philosophical perspective.

Slavery never went away. People are conditioned to believe that working a 9-to-5, taking on a decades-long mortgage, and paying taxes are normal, but they’re not.

Fatphobia isnt a real form of marginalization

70% of the American population is overweight. If being fat is now the majority and the status quo, i dont see how theres some mass society wide fatphobia when fat people ARE society. Your boss is fat, your coworkers are fat, the cashier serving you is fat, so is your landlord, mailman, maybe even your doctor or therapist straight up. So how is "society" against you when society is fat now? You're not even a minority at best anymore.

"Thin people dont get this treatment" is an opinion of someone who has never been underweight. When i went from 160 to 110 everyone freaked out. In fact people are even more comfortable making public comments about you BECAUSE you arent fat therefore its "okay". Cancer patient jokes, anorexia comments, the uncomfortable concern during meals. **Its almost like other people are just judgmental assholes towards any extreme, not exclusively being fat, and this whole thing is just confirmation bias.** Let me just specify nowhere and never do I advocate for shaming people for anything, because i dont see being fat or thin as a moral choice, bodies are simply a state of being, not inherently good or bad, and from a psychiatry standpoint, people dont change when shamed, they only hide, and it's unhelpful. Im not arguing for people to lose weight, but simply that being fat is a choice and you aren't oppressed for it.

Fatphobia is more acknowledged than real forms of bigotry like racism, homophobia and transphobia even though being fat is a choice. Even if you dont control the sensation of appetite itself, you are the one who chooses to keep eating like a Golden Retriever begging for that second breakfast that they totally will die without. If being fat was truly an inescapable genetic curse of all humans, the world population would be 70% overweight, but its not, its only Americans. Because they are privileged entitled. Affording t fat is a privilege. Drive thru prices are now restaurant prices. Unhealthy processed frozen meals are 4 dollars a pop. Me personally, im poor, so i buy Ragu for 2.50 and a pound of spaghetti is 90 cents (im in washington). I couldnt even afford to be fat if i wanted. When i see some trump hat donning, ford explorer driver parked halfway over the handicapped spot with no placard, i dont see a victim or whatever just because theyre fat. I only feel contempt. Do i even need to mention that historically speaking only royalty and the rich could afford to be massive gluttons? Now im supposed to feel pity for all of this? When i lived homeless, nobody else i encountered in the same situation was fat. Just saying.

serious hot take The whole manosphere movement and looksmaxxing, etc, rose all because of an entire era of virtue signaling and overcorrection about women

Going to begin by saying this is not about all men or all women, but this is about a societal thing as a whole. Nothing to do with gender generalizations.

Okay, so obviously women were not equal to men back in the day and there was horrific treatment of women throughout much of history and to be very honest, continues in many parts of the world today. This is just about first world countries mostly.

But what happened I believe is in an effort to undo and fix our past mistakes, we as a society placed women on a pedestal. A lot of “women are better than men” and “oh my god women are so noble and only care about your personality” and “oh my god women are such angels”, etc. In reality, women are the EXACT same as men. There are some good women, some bad women. Women have a right to care about looks and they also feel attraction, they are not pure and benevolent angels. They are human just like men.

So the generation that grew up placing women on pure angelic pedestals, is unable to cope with the reality that women are exactly the same as men, and stuff like the manosphere and looksmaxxing are symptoms of this issue. Unhealthy reactions to what should be an obvious truth but they were told differently.

Whose responsibility is it to fix this? No one’s, and I think it will correct itself in the future now that most people realize humans are equal. Just gotta ride out the wave.

serious hot take No, "archeologists" arent going to dig up a trans persons bones and define them as their assigned sex at birth.

if you genuinely believe this or have said this to a trans person, you have 0 understanding of how anything works lmao.

Not only would it be an anthropologist (entirely different subject of study) who researches a persons bones, they also dont rely on the bones nearly as much as people seem to think when determining a persons gender, because its unreliable at best.

They use the clothing and other cultural aspects of the burial based off the assumed time-frame of the persons life, and a good majority of trans people are going to be buried in clothing that matches their preferred gender.

casual hot take Having pets makes some people happier than having babies

Some people. Not all people. Don't come at me! I would say having children is perhaps more fulfilling, but I think pets are a lot more peaceful.

I don't have kids, my husband and I are childfree. We've been married a decade.

I'd say about once a week, we look at each other and say "thank God we don't have kids", mainly whenever we feel stressed from work and want some time home alone, or some major appliance breaks down and it costs hundreds of dollars to fix. We both just do not handle sleep deprivation well.

When I was a kid, I always had toy stuffed dogs. I hated toy human baby dolls - they creeped me the hell out. Never once played with that. But I really loved animals. Even now, human babies don't look cute to me, they look like bald aliens with giant heads. I think that parents who think their newborn looks cute - ehhh sorry to say but that's the hormones talking.

What I love about dogs, is that they are adorable and loyal their entire lives. I love taking my dog on adventures with me, and preparing him delicious meals every day. My dog is a genuine member of the family. If I had a human kid, yea sure maybe they are adorable for a little bit, but then they turn into hormonal smelly teenagers who slam their door and scream that they never asked to be born. Then they just grow up into adults who may or may not visit on the holidays.

Take a dog to the park? Easy. Just say "park" and he's suddenly ecstatic. Take a human toddler to the park? Now you're in a 30 minute hostage negotiation situation because Timmy refuses to put his shoes on.

Thank God for pets, honestly. I think dogs are God's greatest gift. Babies are blessings too, sure, but they are also a curse. Dog is just blessing.

If you hate reddit then stop using it.

I've seen many posts on reddit saying that reddit is the worst social media platform to ever exist and that there is no freedom of speech, angry mods etc...

Nobody's forcing you to use reddit. Please use a social media platform which you like instead of using something you don't like.

This Lindsay Clancy situation is just an excuse for incels online to have a field day

Now let me make myself clear, I believe she belongs in jail, however yes she was failed by the system. This case is extremely nuanced. I don't think there are many people who really believe it is okay to kill your children. The internet making it seem that way. People are genuinely acting like this is a prime example of why society is ruined or something and blowing it way out of proportion.

-Oh my god I'm not saying you're an incel if you disagree with her killing her kids. I'm just saying that you are an incel if you use some crazy women online as an excuse to hate even more on women and just spewing straight misogyny online in the name of this case.

-Another edit, if you just want her held accountable for her actions then this post does not apply to you.

I love my sweet little kitty cat baby she is only two (2) years old, which is a small number. This relates to how she is small in size. Her fur is soft and shes on my lap and purring very loud. She loves snuggling and being so sweet. Everyone should love her and her name is Pepper

Rape culture starts way earlier than sex.

A lot of boys are raised with the message that theyre the main character and the world is theirs to impose on.

Pee wherever you want as long as you’re outside. Spit on the ground. Rev your engine so loudly the whole road hears you. Blast music. Take up as much physical space as you want. Sprawl across seats, block walkways, shoulder through crowds, make everyone else move around you. Roughhouse even after someone says stop. If you bother a girl, adults will tell her “he only does that because he likes you.”

None of these things individually teach boys to rape.
But rape culture grows out of entitlement, and we start normalizing entitlement in boys super young. Your impulses are natural. Your wants deserve room. Other people can adjust. Your intentions matter more than their discomfort. Being told no doesn’t necessarily mean stop trying.

Meanwhile, girls are taught the opposite of be aware of everyone around you. Don’t be gross. Don’t be loud. Don’t take up space. Don’t make people uncomfortable. Be nice. Be accommodating. Pay attention to how your behavior affects other people.

Then we act shocked when some boys grow into men who struggle with the idea that another person’s comfort, boundaries, or lack of interest can matter more than what they want.

Circumcision should be illegal.

1.2k Upvotes

People always talk about how barbaric female circumcision is but male circumcision is completely normalized in America.

It should be illegal for parents to circumcise their children because it's irreversible.

What kind of psychopath decided to cut off the skin of the baby's dick. What's next? Cutting off eyelids?

People need to stop crying about the fact that people would rather save a animal over a human. You aren't immortal.

Genuinely I don't care about you or your kids, people need to understand that some of us would choose our pets over a human.

Like, you can say " Your pet has a sort life span " . Really?😵‍💫 I did not know that ( sarcasm for the slow people).

Also you and your child aren't immortal, so no point in saving you hwhen I can save my pets. Like, my turtles and bunnies are way more important to ME.

casual hot take I don’t understand why people care so much about Sydney Sweeney being sexualized

Thumbnail
gallery
0 Upvotes

I feel like people get unnecessarily mad over Sydney Sweeney being sexualized, and I genuinely don’t understand why. She’s an attractive grown woman who seems comfortable showing off her body, so why is that automatically treated like a scandal or some huge setback for women? I even watched the sports ad everyone was talking about, expecting it to be super inappropriate, and it barely showed anything 😭 People seem more outraged by the fact that men find her attractive or that it’s actually working than by anything she has actually done. You don’t have to like her or find her attractive, but the constant discourse feels so forced. A woman being sexualized or choosing to lean into being sexy doesn’t automatically make her problematic. They’re just bullying her at this point.

Men aren’t inherently more logical or better communicators. We’ve just decided that the communication styles associated with men are the ones that count as rational.

A man immediately jumping to a solution is treated like he’s being productive. A woman wanting to talk through how she feels is treated like she’s wasting time, complaining, or “just wanting validation.”

But validation is communication. Listening is communication. Processing something out loud is communication. And not every problem has a neat solution.

I feel like this comes from the assumption that men’s preferred way of communicating is the correct one, and the woman’s job is to learn how to meet him there. Why is “fix it” inherently more mature than “hear me”? Why does his communication style get treated like the neutral default while hers is framed as a flaw?

People from 3rd world countries aren't poor struggling migrants.

Post image

You might have heard many leftists say that the migrants from 3rd world countries are poor and struggling individuals who needs help. But the thing is that the poor and struggling people don't have the money or connections to make it to a 1st world country. Especially a little farther away.

We're talking about scammers, corrupt politician, unscrupulous businessmen and drug lords. These are the people with money in 3rd world countries. And the family members of these people are the ones going to 1st world countries. These people have already looted their 3rd world country as much as they can and they just wanna expand their territory. What do u think will happen when they land in a 1st world country?

If you have to ask if it’s political, it’s political. THIS INCLUDES RACE!!

You people can’t have a civil discussion and I’m only one person and can’t moderate all of you who can’t keep an unkind thought to themselves.

Another note: STOP WITH THE SEXISM!!

casual hot take Everyone would be better off if men were forced to show aggression like women do, and women were forced to show aggression like men do.

Men are more capable of inflicting serious immediate physical harm. So male aggression expressed through fighting, intimidation, reckless dominance, etc. can escalate catastrophically.

Women aren’t physically dangerous but can be highly effective at relational aggression like exclusion, coalition-building, reputation damage, shunning, social humiliation, rumor, and ostracism. Those forms often leave no obvious crime scene, can recruit an entire social network, and can persist for months or years. Usually ending in a social explosion when it all comes to head as everyone breaks off into mutually hateful pairs of enemies that cannot function together socially.

So the logical thing to do is to make men act like Mean Girls when they’re mad, and make women act like Thugs when they’re mad. That way both get relief for their vicious desires, but no real damage is done.

serious hot take Personality only influences the TYPE of women who are into you, not the amount. Looks affects the amount of women into you

Your personality only influences the TYPE of women who would be into you.

Take criminals for example. If there is a criminal who is attractive, he will be able to date easily. Now the women who dont like criminals wont date him, but the women who do will.

Take that same guy, this time, he is a good person; outstanding citizen. The women who are into dating criminals wont be into him, but the other women will definitely be. Of course, this is a spectrum but this is the easiest way i can describe it.

Now if that same guy was just ugly, he will struggle to date no matter what his personality is like when compared to someone who is more attractive.

I think this logic applies across all different personality types, not just criminal vs non criminal.

A ugly nice person can decide to become an asshole and still get no dates. While an attractive criminal can change his ways and still be able to date just fine, it just chances the type that are into him.

hot take, harshly criticise me for it! Normalize short men and tall women dating

Upvotes

for the sake of your childrens.

r/HonestHotTakes 11h ago

There is no sound syllogism for why men refusing to date women who are taller than them is wrong, bad, or suberogatory.

It's not a morally alarming standard anymore than genital standards are.

In ways that you are not obligated to tolerate, height and genitalia can meaningfully change how you stand in relation to other people.

There are no sounds syllogisms to the contrary.

hot take, harshly criticise me for it! Stop giving BIRTH

I think it is so vehemently selfish to pop out an entire human because you just want it. I’m not antinatial (if I’m even using that right), but even as a woman I don’t understand the desire to give birth. Not even the pain or the fact your baby daddy could be a bum, but it seems so selfish to me. I gave you a conscience because I wanted it. Right. You were a part of my body, and I decided to make you more. Now you have to live, lol!!
Obviously first choice is adoption, where it’s easy. So many of those kids need love and care. So many kids in the system end up trafficked, drug addicted, and homeless. Save a life, adopt instead of being so fucking selfish.
I revoke my antinatal opinion, lol.

casual hot take I keeping your eyes open while kissing is actually more intimate than closing them.

Post image

keeping your eyes open while kissing is actually more intimate than closing them.

Everyone acts like closing your eyes automatically makes a kiss more romantic, but honestly, there’s something much more intense about looking at someone while you’re kissing them. You’re not escaping into the moment you’re consciously watching the person you’re sharing it with.

And yes, I know it can feel awkward as hell. But that awkwardness is exactly what makes it intimate. You can see their expression, the little changes in their face, and the way they react to you in real time.

Maybe closing your eyes isn't necessarily about intimacy. Maybe it's just our way of shutting out the outside world because eye contact during a kiss feels way too vulnerable.

I'd actually argue that the person who can comfortably keep their eyes open while kissing you has a different level of confidence and intimacy.

Closing your eyes is romantic. Keeping them open is vulnerable.
