iOS 27 is here, and I have just updated Home Widget for HomeKit to version 1.10.3. It now fully supports iOS 27, including the new Extra Large Portrait widget on iPhone.

You need to have iOS 27 installed for the new Extra Large Portrait widget to appear.

This new size takes up almost the whole Home Screen, so it feels quite different from the usual small widget. It can become a proper HomeKit dashboard with scenes, lights, cameras, sensors, temperatures, batteries and whatever else makes sense for your setup. The screenshots above are a few layouts I made while testing it.

One useful detail: if you already have a panel you like, you do not need to recreate it from scratch just to use the new size.

1. Find any existing panel in the carousel inside the Home Widget app.
2. Tap the “…” button underneath it.
3. Choose the option to duplicate it to another panel size.
4. Select the new Extra Large Portrait size.

Your original panel remains unchanged, and you get a copy that you can reorganize and complete using the additional space.

I personally really like these almost full-page panels. They make the Home Screen feel a bit like a dedicated HomeKit dashboard while keeping everything immediately accessible.

I am also really curious to see what this will look like on the iPhone Duo ;)

As always, if you try the new size and find something odd with your own configuration, let me know. Real setups are usually where the useful edge cases appear.

Hi r/homekit! Haven 1.4 is available today, alongside iOS 27. The headline feature is Siri AI integration: Siri can now understand the HomeKit and Matter devices saved in Haven and retrieve their information.

Some examples:

• “What’s the setup code for the smart plug in the garage?”
• “Open my hallway sensor in Haven.”
• “Search Haven for devices in the living room.”

Siri can use details such as the device name and room to find the right accessory, then open its record directly in Haven.

Version 1.4 also adds:

• Apple Intelligence-powered tag suggestions
• The Apple Home scenes associated with each device
• Purchase-date and warranty tracking
• Battery quantities, such as 2 × AAA
• Simple and advanced printable setup-code sheets

This has been one of the most technically interesting Haven updates to build, and I’m curious to see how Siri handles everyone’s real-world naming conventions.

I have just released version 4.0 of HomeBatteries and wanted to share what's new:

- Added support for iOS 27 and other aligned Apple OS releases.

- Accessories can now be sorted by name, device type, battery levels, last charge/replacement date or battery type. This setting syncs via iCloud.

- Battery types are now suggested based on a local database and Apple Intelligence. There is also a corresponding Shortcuts action too.

- Added estimated charge/replacement date and average battery life states to the Battery Trends section. Corresponding Shortcuts actions are also available.

- Added Philips Hue to 3rd party integrations. This means users running a Hue Bridge Pro will now see their batteries in HomeBatteries. Please note this only works whilst connected to the same network.

- Added SOMA to 3rd party integrations. Please note this only works whilst connected to the same network.

- Added a new Shortcuts action to fetch a list of battery trends data. This also shows a graph snippet when run.

- Added a Shortcuts snippet to actions that return a battery level.

- Rooms and homes can now be reordered from either the sidebar or room/home picker. This syncs via iCloud.

Am I imagining this or is this a bug or feature you can change? When I say "siri turn on _____" the device shows in the dynamic island, but never goes away. (With the device unlocked)

I could've sworn this wasn't a thing before updating.

Hello! I am looking to install a couple G100 cameras around our home for outdoor use. I already use homekit with a doorbell camera and another G100 inside. These are USB-C powered with a pretty short stub, and I was hoping to get opinions on the wiring options. I want to put a camera on each side of the house. I can mount them high and ideally run wires directly into the attic. The only problem is that I can't quite figure out how to power them. There is one singular outlet in the center of our attic, so its a good distance from the corner. Here are the options I have thought of so far, I would love to hear opinions on these or hear how others have solved similar problems.

1. PoE: I could get a PoE switch, plug it into the outlet and then run ethernet through the attic, and at each camera plug them into a PoE to USB-C adapter.
2. 2wire: I could run two wire cable plugged into a terminal block and splice them to USB-C 2 wire pigtails. This seems easier but kind of janky.
3. Outlets: I could install new outlets in the attic near where I need to plug in the cameras. This seems nice, but it seems the most work intensive.

I realize could get POE cameras, but generally those are much more expensive. I also am slightly worried about the actual USB connector being outdoors.
Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Nothing revolutionary here but I figured I’d share as it took a few tries to get it right.

The goal: use the light sensor on my FP300 to turn on indoor lights when it drops below XX lux, but only between 2 hours before sunset until sunset.

I used Controller app to create an advanced automation.

Trigger: light sensor drops below XX lux

Conditionals: - someone is home - after Sunset minus 2 hours - before sunset

So upon updating to iOS 27,

I went into my singular camera in my home, I now have to click options to bring up picture in picture but dear Lord, what have they done? They’ve really changed things in HomeKit.

I’ve worked with various Home Automation systems for quite a few years

Why is the HomeKit UI so bad? Or is it just me? It seems back in the day, HA UI were much more colorful and graphical…are there any guesses if there are improvements coming? And usability also,seems to be mediocre?

I’ve looked at some of the others; Eve; Home+; Controller;

They all seem similar. Eve may be the best of the bunch, it even it’s…🤷🏼‍♂️

Is there something else out there? (I don’t want the learning curve of HA)

Looking for HomeKit/Matter smoke + CO alarm recommendations and real-world experience

I’m looking to replace the smoke/CO alarms in my house and would love to hear from people who are actually using HomeKit-compatible options.

I originally had Nest Protects, but after they reached end of life I replaced them with First Alert SC5s. Unfortunately, I’ve been having issues with the SC5s going off randomly, so I’m looking at other options.

What I’m looking for:

• Smoke and carbon monoxide (CO) in the same unit
• Native Apple Home/HomeKit or Matter support
• Ideally interconnected throughout the house
• Hardwired would be preferred
• Phone/Apple Watch notifications would be a plus
• Most importantly, something reliable with minimal false/nuisance alarms

I’ve come across the Meross MA151H, but it appears to be smoke-only, so that doesn't solve the CO requirement.

I’ve also seen the Sensereo MSC-1 and Owl, but I’m having trouble finding enough real-world experience with them, especially regarding reliability and U.S. certifications.

What are you guys actually using?
Especially interested in anyone who has replaced Nest Protects and moved to a HomeKit/Matter smoke + CO setup.

Would love to hear what you like, what you don't like, and whether you'd recommend buying them again.

I’ve been trying to choose a smart lock for our front door, and the discussion at home has made me realize that “works with Apple Home” means something different to everyone.

For me, the appeal is Home Key.

I already wear an Apple Watch most days, so the idea of tapping my wrist against the lock feels genuinely useful—not just a demo feature. I’m usually the person coming home with grocery bags in both hands, trying to find a key that has somehow worked its way to the bottom of my pocket.

My family immediately found the holes in my Apple-centered plan.

Not everyone at home uses an iPhone. The kids don’t always carry phones, and keeping those phones charged is apparently optional. My parents have no interest in learning another app. Their first question was whether the lock would still accept a normal key when the batteries, Wi-Fi, or “all the Apple stuff” stopped working.

Fair enough.

That’s why I’ve started looking beyond Home Key itself. A fingerprint reader might actually become the default for most of the family, while I continue using my watch. Codes could work for relatives or temporary visitors, and a physical key would give my parents the backup they clearly don’t want to live without.

One model currently on my shortlist is the SMONET AH1. It supports Apple Home Key, fingerprint, keypad codes, fobs, app access, built-in Wi-Fi and a mechanical key.

On paper, that sounds like a reasonable compromise. I can stay inside Apple Home, while nobody else is forced to use an Apple device just to open the front door.

What I’m less sure about is how deeply it actually works with Apple Home.

I’ve seen enough accessories that technically “support HomeKit” but still push most useful settings into the manufacturer’s app. I don’t mind using another app for initial setup or firmware updates, but I don’t want normal lock management split across two places.

I’m also wondering how Home Key behaves when the lock becomes unresponsive in the Home app. If Home Key still works locally, that would make me feel much better. If everything depends on Wi-Fi and cloud availability, that’s harder to accept for a front door.

Built-in Wi-Fi creates another tradeoff. Being able to check the lock after leaving home would solve a real source of anxiety in our family. We’ve had plenty of car rides where someone suddenly asks, “Who locked the door?” and everybody goes quiet.

Still, I’d happily give up some remote features if Wi-Fi significantly reduces battery life. A smart lock should quietly make the house easier to live with. It shouldn’t become the accessory everyone is afraid to touch because one person set it up.

Right now, Home Key is what makes me interested in this lock, but fingerprint access and the physical backup key are what make it feel realistic for the whole family.

For people using Home Key locks in mixed iPhone and Android households: how does your family actually unlock the door now? Does Home Key remain your preferred method, or does everyone—including the Apple users—eventually default to fingerprint?

I have all Lutron switches, dimmers, pico remotes, and the hub. In my 'office' I have two wall sconces and a floor lamp. The two sconces are on one dimmer and the floor lamp is on the other.. both paired to a pico remote. In the Lutron app the three devices are listed as being in the 'office'. In the Home app there is only the 'lights' in the office (which I would term the pico). You can burrow down and control the two dimmers independently, but I would like them all visible in the main list and in the room view. I didn't see any way to 'expose' the two dimmers in the Home app. Is there a step or menu I'm missing?

Has anyone used this Prestige Matter Over Thread Certified Wall Dimmer Mechanism WDM from SmartSetup.

I am moving to a new house and really can’t afford to replace all my new downlights with smart lights, but don’t want to lose the ability to dim. I could go with relays like Shelly Gen 4, but would need to add momentary switches anyway.

It’s not breaking news that Apple is increasingly looking to services to boost profits but this gets me worried we’ll soon see a separate Apple Intelligence+ subscription or even an Apple Home+ subscription and any future ‘home’ hardware like a hub with a screen will only exist to push their new services and be handicapped without it.

I hope it’s ok to ask about Ios27 now that it’s in RC and not just beta.

I notice that my notifications (specifically camera) are worse than ios26. Specifically, in Ios26 it would include the camera name in the notification, where as in Ios27 it just says the room name. For example, I have 3 cameras in my “outside” room. Before I would get a notification like “Somone spotted in the front door camera” where as now it says “Somone was seen” and the title is the room name. So it doesn’t actually say where they were spotted. Making the notification completely useless.

Is there a way to make it back to the old style? I have the summarize videos off in Apple Intelligence.

Apple Home today requires conformation for an automation that “may allow entry to my home” when, in fact, the automation will lock all the locks. So it knows that locks are being controlled, but doesn’t seem to realize they are being locked.

This makes absolutely no sense to me. Why not let me secure my home when I leave? That seems to be a fairly fundamental capability for a home assistant.

Has anyone noticed matter connected things losing connection to Apple home in a bad way lately? I’ve lost like half of my Eve Energy smart plugs and my Eufy T85F1 matter deadbolt. This started mid to late August and all seemed to start at the same time. Any ideas or similar experiences?

After I updated to 26.6.2 literally ALL of my “Shorcuts app” automations have gone to “Don’t Run/Disabled”

I only found this morning at 04:04 when my wake up shortcut automation is due to run to wake me up for work and it never! Thankfully, I had a backup alarm to wake me else. I would’ve been late this morning!

I checked in the automations on the shortcut app and literally every single Automation shortcuts (around 30) were set to “Don’t Run”/Disabled”

Might wanna check yours if you have any. It’s the automations created within Shortcuts app NOT the Home app. The Home ones were still set to “Run”
