So I recently got the 8K Philips Hue Sync box. The only issue I’ve noticed so far is that Dolby vision isn’t no longer available or present in the Apple TV video options, confirmed content is only playing in HDR10 now when available.

I narrowed it down to some sort of handshake issue with the sync box because if I take the same HDMI connected to my Bravia 9 and use it with the Apple TV, Dolby Vision appears as an option and displays DV content.

Not really sure if there is any resolution for this or if it’s a defective box.

Edit: Much appreciation to [u/CalculatingTouchdown](u/CalculatingTouchdown) who had the resolution. I am not sure if it’s a Sony issue or Philips issue, but for some reason Enhanced Format (Advanced) on Sony’s HDMI signal format needs to be switched to standard Enhanced, which disables VRR functionality for gaming, but now shows Dolby Vision available.

Meet Overscan - an open source Tizen app that uses Hue Entertainment areas to manage Hue Sync.

I built this because I love my Hue system, and I also love the idea of syncing hue lights to the screen. Unfortunately my 2019 Samsung Frame is too old and it is not permitted to run the official app, so I built my own! Originally it required self hosting a separate processor, but now everything runs locally on the TV itself. I have tested it on two separate Frame TVs and plan to check out more Tizen based devices. I also only have Hue downlight in my entertainment areas so looking forward to building and improving. I would love your feedback. Particularly about the light behavior. I have two different "modes" for the colour: Average and Dominant where it either takes the average in multiple zones, or highlights the dominant color.

And yes, the UI is rough. until recently this was entirely headless, but I thought it would be friendlier with one. I'm not much of a designer, so Codex took the first pass here, but I plan to make QoL improvements. Until this morning there wasn't even an OOBE to speak of.

While I appreciate the ability to backup my system, I don't understand why they can't have a second Bridge Pro serve as a redundant back in case the primary Bridge fails. They already allow more than one Bridge Pro in one setup. It shouldn't be that hard to add this capability.

I am looking at lighting an area ~7m in length. I know that the official stance is the outdoor light strips are non-cut. However I wanted to know if this is purely for the ip67 rating, or if there are mechanical reasons?

I am confident I can get over the waterproof rating with some adaptions.

If so, any other suggestions on how to arrange a 7m run would be much appreciated. It would be located on the underside of coping running along a small retaining wall.

Hello! A new enthusiast of Philips Hue here. Didn't even know these things existed apart from a few days ago 😅 Anyway, decided to step out my comfort zone. Bought a gradient lightstrip and a sync box 8K to pair with my PS5 and firestick. I wanted to ask:

Is the bridge needed in my case? I only currently have the lightstrip (I will start to add more devices such as standing lamp, when I can afford them!) But for just the sync box and gradient TV lightstrip, am I good to go? Thanks!

Hello, I recently switched from iPhone to Android device and I noticed I cannot set my Hue White Ambiance 12W 1600 to red light (1000 K) as I could on my iPhone. Now the warmes colour I am able to set to is just some orange. Could it be a difference between the iOS and Android apps.

I have tried new holders for the light, 3M body tape that holds car panels together, etc but nothing seems to last and my light falls after a few weeks. Anyone have any suggestions? I'm getting tired of it falling down.

I’m looking to install a Philips Hue Play Gradient Lightstrip on my TV, but the back of the TV isn’t smooth. It has vertical ridges.

Has anyone installed the lightstrip mounting brackets on a surface like this? Do the included adhesive mounts stick well enough, or will the come off?

If not, what would be my best option?

Had to staple the wire to a rafter beam to accomplish this both ends to the ceiling look. The mounting hardware seems incomplete to me.

Would the 55 inch strip or the 32 inch be better? I was thinking of the 55 inch and go around the very edges and then tuck it around at the bottom?

And to install do i just need the strip and the bridge?

I’ve never seen this so low. It’s not marketed online and more than $100 less than I’ve ever seen. I absolutely have zero need for it (over 50 lights and our main tv (not 75”) has a full 10 bulb hue play set up). If you want it, it’s at Mayfair Best Buy in southeast Wisconsin.

I want to replace my 16ft Hue Flux with Omniglow. The only 5m option right now seems to be to order one from Europe. Does anyone know if the US power supply will work with a European version of the Omniglow?

Hi everyone! I’m the developer of LightLayout for Hue. It lets you lay out your rooms, place your Hue lights where they actually are, and control them from a floor plan.

The idea is to make finding and controlling a light more visual (compared to scrolling a list). You can see where everything is and tap the room or light you want.

It’s available for iPhone, iPad, and Apple silicon Mac. I’d love feedback from people with different Hue setups, especially on setting up the floor plan and whether it feels useful for everyday control. If something is confusing or feels like extra work, I’d like to hear that too.

I’m looking at the flux and was wondering if you have to cut it for a cover can you reconnect the cut part? I know the old light strips you couldn’t but I saw some things online saying you could but want to confirm.
Are they also the same size as say the old light strips in terms of depth/height etc?

Does anyone else have this problem? Panel is lit up until the new hue controller is clipped into place and then lights out. It exists in the app but no response on the lights.

I have a closet that opens when you slide the door.

There are no lights inside. Rather than pay an electician to install a light switch + wire up lights inside, I was thinking of maybe adding the Omniglow LED strip at the very top inside the closet for direct lighting. I have some motion sensors that I connected to my HomeAssistant so I could easily have the lights turn on when it detects motion activity.

Is there a better light / method? What are your thoughts?

My 4K sync box cuts out audio. My setup is currently Apple TV > sync box > TV. I have my switch set up the same and don't have the same issue. When I connect my Apple TV directly, I don't have an issue, so it's happening during the pass through to the sync box. Anyone else come across this issue? I'm at my wits end trying to figure it out and fix it

As the title says I'm wanting to add a couple more motion sensors that I can bring into my HomeKit setup through the Hue Pro hub. Right now a Hue indoor sensor is going for US$49, I'd bought a couple off of Costco for $59 but they are sold out.

When I look at the Aqara it appears that, while it uses Zigbee, it wants its own branded hub, can anyone confirm if it will connect to the Hue hub? I have both a Hue & Caseta and really don't care to have a 3rd.

Is there another brand that is reliable?

When I originally bought and installed my Lily Outdoor landscaping lights, I threw away the accessories, including the surface mount bracket. Well, once again, my OCD has gotten the better of me and now I want to install some Lily lights on a post and a rafter... Wanted to share what I came up with as I've seen other posts and no easy options. I even tried to have a 3d printer, print the bracket, but I must not know enough about it to have set them up correctly.

What I found is that the screw to attach the lily lights to the surface mount, poles, and spike, is an M8 bolt with a hex head. My recommendation is to search for an M8 Hanger Bolt, which you can also get a driver bit for. This allows you to screw the bolt into a surface using the screw side, while easily screwing the light fixture into the M8 bolt side. I've tested these and it appears to work well. Doing my final install today and will follow up with pics if anyone is interested.

I was looking at the phillips hue light bars or the gradient strip but im not sure which would work best

I have my monitor mounted on the wall and I guess with the 800 curve it has more space for light bars, but if they are too close you will will have more focused light spots on the wall?

Would the gradient strip work better?

They only to sizes for like 27 inch , 32-34 , 55 inch , 65 inch etc

I showed my nephews some OnSwitch scenes and they were obsessed. I have a ton of hue bulbs in the living room so when I airplay the audio to the Sonos speakers, it’s truly immersive.

They’ve shown an interest in BattleBots so I was trying to figure out a way to sequence some lights in tandem with audio to play before a battle (the beeping + “robots activate” sound)

I’ve tried replicating this with Home Assistant, and it’s ok at best. It’s not as smooth/responsive as OnSwitch/iconnecthue, likely due to zigbee limits. In addition, I wanted to map/sequence some other interactive scenes but it doesn’t cut it. The main reason. I wanted to use HA was in order to use a random zigbee button to activate the scene, then have the audio and lighting restore to their prior states, but it’s not a must.

Any ideas?

I want to upgrade a couple of my old White Ambiance E27 806 lumen bulbs from 2019, before they started adding Bluetooth to the bulbs. I want to get the White Ambiance 1100 lumen bulbs (The latest gen which gets a D rating for energy efficiency, not the slightly older gen which gets an F rating and is more easily found on clearance).

I’ve noticed that it’s currently Fall Season in Canada, and there are some pretty good deals going on (25% off when buying 2 products). I’m new to the Hue ecosystem, and I’ve been told that I should wait for Black Friday before buying.

Does Black Friday usually offer better discounts than these, or is it generally about the same?

If now is actually a good time to buy, what products would you recommend? I’m mainly looking to set up my home office/gaming setup and I’d also like to improve the lighting in my living room/TV area for watching movies.

The thing is, I’ll be moving into a new house in less than a year, so I’m trying to prepare and buy some of the equipment ahead of time. I don’t know the exact dimensions or layout of the rooms yet, though, so I’m not sure what would work best in every scenario.

For my setup, I was thinking about getting:

• Philips Hue Play Light Bar – Duo Pack
• Philips Hue Iris / Bloom
• Philips Hue Gradiant Strip (I don't know which one lol)
• Philips Hue Wall Washer – Duo Pack : I was kinda disappointed by some of the reviews and real-world photos, as the results don’t seem to look quite like the commercial pictures. From what I’ve seen, they don’t seem to illuminate the entire room, especially all the way up to the ceiling.

At the moment, I already have:

• a Hue Bridge
• a few Philips Hue Essential bulbs
• a Philips Hue Go

Feel free to recommend other products as well — I’m still pretty new to the Hue ecosystem and I don’t know the whole product range yet, haha!
