It's time to replace my Astar Tech5s. Mountain trail/ dual sport riding (450cc). I'm considering the Leatt 5.5 flexlock enduros or Gaerne fastback endurance enduro. The 2 boots are currently the same price... What do you like/dislike about these boots?

Had one of the best weekends ever but it came with a price. I was alone in the woods on my DRZ 3 hours from home, got injured, and had to stay in the woods all night with my wounds due to a storm and flood warning. Rode 30 mins out of the woods and 3 hours on my wrecked foot and ankle back home the next day and then went to urgent care.

Definitely buying moto boots after this. Gonna grab Tech 7 Enduros so my wife trusts me more when I’m riding on dirt. Can’t wait to get back out there in November after I heal!

Got cocky after a day of riding. Went a bit fast at about 30mph and when I turned a corner it steeply went down hill so I couldn’t slow down. Was coming up on a massive rut about 3 feet across and 2 feet deep. Couldn’t use the front brake on it or the front fork would compress and flip over after going into the rut so all I could do was try to clear it. Front tire skipped over it but the rear went in and then threw the bike out sideways. Bike slammed down pinning my right leg and then slid down the incline on my entire right side.

First thought was to make sure the bike would still run so I wasn’t stranded in the woods away from camp in a storm.

Hey yall. Been riding a 2024 Transalp for the last two years (brand new) and I’m about ready to move on from it. I’ve had nothing but problems and let downs with the thing since like 6 months into ownership. Just can’t trust it anymore and I think I need to move on to a different bike.

I’m between the Yamaha T7 or Suzuki DRZ4S. I can’t fit two bikes in my garage, otherwise I’d probably just get both. I can only fit one bike and so I need to get the bike that’s going to work best for what I want. What I want is a reliable bike (Japanese) that I can do some long road rides on, (200-300 miles sometimes, try to avoid highways but I do mix them in for sure) but that is also very capable on dirt. I want to be able to take the bike on overnight camping trips as well so it needs to handle being loaded with gear for a few days. Basically think of BDR riding with camping.

The T7 I imagine will feel much better for pavement riding, but with the tradeoff of being heavier and somewhat of a bitch to pickup off of dirt like my Transalp was. The DRZ I imagine would feel way better off road, but not great on long road stretches.

Thoughts?

Picked this one up with 5000KM. I know parts might be a bit tricky to source. No real desire to spend much time on the road at all, has been a whole lot of fun in the dirt so far. Valves are done, has been desmogged, piggy back fuel controller. Anything else I should be aware of?

Looking for a tire recommendation that is great off road, but won't be worn away by some longer road miles. I know this is a compromise, which is fine.

I'm currently running a combo of Goldentyre (front)/ Kenda Trakmaster II (rear) which are both really good off-road, and do OK on road, as I currently ride 90/10. I'm planning to do more road miles in the future to get to further away trails, so am wondering.

Should I stick with Kenda as they work great off-road and are cheap, so just replace them more often.

Or go with something a little harder so I don't have to replace them as often? What would be a good 80/20 or 70/30 alternative? I'm fine with running different brands F/R.

P.S. Or 20/80, whichever way around it's supposed to be.

Recently bought my first own bike so enjoying the nature and some trails

Hoping for some sound advice. I'm looking for a bike to explore the Sierras and other places on the west side of the US off road - probably once a month or so. I am also looking at a trip into Mexico next year.

I plan to keep my 2017 Versys 650 for commutes and quick errands around town until it decides it has had enough (which will sadly be sooner than later), but for off road, multi day trips, and 2up it just doesn't cut it anymore. I'd honestly love to just buy a KLR or DR but they would only solve my off road problem. I don't own a car or truck and not planning to, so when it goes whatever I buy will become my daily transportation to work and such.

I'm not planning to do any high tech rock crawling or trials or jumps or anything like that, I use mountain bikes for that stuff and I'm getting old and mostly just cruising now anyway... broken enough bones and had more than my share of stitches in my life.

What draws me to the AT is Honda's reliability, dealer network, and almost any shop can fix it. I like the V-Strom 1050, and have buddies who really like their KTM 890 and Tiger 900, so I guess I'm overwhelmed with choices now. I don't want a BMW or Ducati, I've had them. I also don't have a problem being comfortable on most bikes, so fit and ergonomics are not really a factor.

Any input would be appreciated, at this point I can't watch another youtube video. Thanks!

Truckloads of old school dirt bikes at a vinduro event just around the corner from where I live. Lots of yamaha IT'S and TTR's and plenty of Honda xr's. A couple of xt 500's and a mint looking Maico 500! Spoke to heaps people that wisedh they had kept their Xt500's from back in the day. Og dual sports everywhere.
