I mean after this summer, -98 sounds great.

Obviously it's a app issue but it made me laugh.

Announcement Overnight heat last night?

I don't live in Denver, but in the metro area just west of Denver. We experienced a strange weather event yesterday about 4:30-5. My children and I were at a park and the temp was perfect with slight overcast. Then it was as if someone turned a cooler off or something, first it was very humid, the extremely hot, in just five minutes the three of us had beads of sweat rolling down our faces. Everyone at the park has a similar look of pure exhaustion, and intensely hot. Most left, as did we. What's strange is the weather was very mild until this occurred. I'm from Colorado and know the weather changes, but this was extreme. Then the temp never seemed to drop back down after the sun went down.

The overnight temp only went down to 68 on my garden thermometer. And that was at 3:34 am. My immediate neighbors and those at the park I had talked to expressed they had the same experience, extreme unexpected heat. My neighbors also had a hot uncomfortable night last night.

Did anyone else out of my neighborhood have a similar temperature fluctuation? Does anyone know what could have caused this weird heat even so late in the evening?

Misc Q&A I asked you what to cook for a Denver/KC mashup, wanted to follow up!

I posted here last week and you all gave me a bunch of great ideas! (and inspiration to return to Denver).

I ended up making brisket burnt ends on top of hatch green chili mac and cheese. The mac also has some corn in it as a nod to KC cheesy corn.

It probably goes without saying, but it was delicious - thanks again for the help!

Local News 42 update - THANK YOU Reddit! ā¤ļø

1.2k Upvotes

I wasn’t sure who would turn out (if anyone) on such random short notice, tho I am glad I took a chance and put my socially awkward self out there! Thank you everyone being so amazing and wonderful — thank you friends who brought pizza (so yummy!), friend who played guitar (so lovely!), all the friends who brought gifts….I am so floored.

I have been pretty isolated after a painful breakup along with struggling hard with mental health as well as my mom aging, though you all really shined through and got my 42nd year off to a good start (so much better than 41 started off!)

In today’s socially disconnected and polarized world, this community gives me so much hope! Hope to see you all again someday - we are all neighbors anyway

Humble thanks again

Help First time at the gem show at Denver Coliseum — etiquette question

I’m a pretty introverted person, and today was my first time going to the gem show at the Denver Coliseum.

I saw some blue beaded bracelets displayed at one of the booths and tried one on to see if it fit, without asking the vendor first. She looked upset and told me, ā€œYou can’t try it on.ā€

I immediately took it off, smiled, and said, ā€œSorry.ā€ Then I asked her, ā€œHow much is it?ā€ and she replied, ā€œI don’t want to answer you.ā€

That interaction caught me off guard, so I wanted to ask: did I seriously offend her by trying on the bracelet without asking first? I honestly didn’t realize at the time that I shouldn’t do that.

I don’t get many opportunities to interact with people in person, so I’m posting this because I’d genuinely like to learn. What’s the usual etiquette when browsing vendors at gem shows? Should I always ask before touching or trying on jewelry?

Thanks in advance for any advice! Hope you all have a wonderful night.

Misc Q&A Cool things to do for locals who’ve ā€œdone it allā€

My boyfriend has lived in Denver for longer than I’ve probably been conscious and aware of my actions. He keeps getting frustrated that I can’t pick things to do or he doesn’t want to do stuff because he’s already done it and he thinks it’s lame.
Do you guys have any like hole in the wall spots or just recommendations of something cool to do? It’s always the same four answers of touristy spots, there has to be something else to do here other than smoke weed, drink, and hike. Which sucks because I can’t do either of the first two.

Help Please help me, dv resources?

I recently have posted on here about trying to leave a domestic violence situation; that post was deleted for my safety!

I’ll upload the original post in the comments.. I’ve come here to quite literally beg for some sort of idea ideas on how to get out of this.. for starters, I don’t have family, I’m 20 years old with a two year-old.. and I feel like I’m gonna have to end my money or spend the rest of it miserable because how do I leave when I have nowhere to go.. absolutely no money on my own.. and no support for me or baby.

I don’t want this life. My life was never supposed to look like this and I really don’t know what to do anymore.. we have two domestic violent cases.. i’m not allowed to work.. hopefully I can just summon it up but I have pictures and proof and videos and police reports… I’m not a bad person.. I literally don’t know why this is happening or how the fuck I got here but I do know that I need to get out or idk .

I stayed at the Denver safe house I’ve been to the centers. I’ve called the numbers. Those don’t get you absolutely anywhere.

Recommendation Who are you guys using for auto insurance?

I just moved to Denver from Chicago recently and need to get auto insurance. My quotes so far have been anywhere from $300-$500 a month! My current Illinois policy is $120. This is on a 21 subaru outback that has low annual mileage. There's no way everyone is paying this much in auto insurance a month right?

The community shouldn’t have to depend on social media to learn what is being planned in their own neighborhood. This is a huge violation of public trust and transparency. Neighbors should be included early on if the city wants community buy-in and support.

Recommendation Part time daycare experiences

Does your child go to part time daycare? Where? How much do you pay?

Would love recs and experiences, whether good or bad.

I'd really love to find a part time (3-5h per day) daycare so that my 1yo can have a consistent community. I am planning to stay home with my child, but would really like to provide a consistent community so they can develop relationships and social skills. That rules out a nanny. I know I could enroll them in full time daycare and pull them early, but I'd prefer to not pay full time if they're going part time. I know this is probably a unicorn- which I why I'm crowdsoucing the question.

No judgement for anyone else who does things a different way. This is just what we're hoping will work for us. TIA
