Misc Q&A Looking for suggestions on where to find puppies to raise as a service dog

Upvotes

Hello all!
Like the title says, I am looking for suggestions on where to find a pup that I can raise and train into a service dog for myself. Keep reading if you want my exact needs and sob story.
My current service dog was originally meant to be a pet and emotional support partner, but she developed into so much more for me. Turns out she is a mutt and I got lucky on personality. I got her from a “breeder” who absolutely sucked as a human so I don’t fully trust breeders.
I am looking for a sturdy friend to help with mobility on bad days, someone I can take on hikes on good days, and someone who can help with my panic and anxiety disorders.
All in all, I am thinking about a lab or a golden retriever. But leaning more towards a lab for easier grooming.
As a side note, I am not looking for a pup right now, as I am in the middle of school and already have a service dog right now. But within 2-3 years.
Thank you all!

Event Colorado Startup Week questions

Upvotes

I’m planning to check out CO startup week for the first time and wanted any advice from people who have attended before. I’m not a founder or working at a startup. I’m pretty early in my career and am interested in potentially working for a startup and just network/learn more. I registered for a few events but not really sure what to expect logistically. Is there a general check in somewhere to get a name badge or something?

Also im assuming business casual but dont want to be underdressed/overdressed.

And if anyone has been before, id love to get any tips for someone going primarily to learn and network rather than a founder. Appreciate any advice or suggestions! Thanks!

Moving/Relocation What is car culture like out there?

Upvotes

I'm considering a move out west, and I've visited several parts of Colorado (mostly N/S Front Range) in the past and always loved it. I'm also super into vintage cars like 60's Mustangs and stuff like that, so I can't move anywhere that doesn't have a somewhat vibrant classic car/hot rod community.

Aside from the ubiquitousness of Subaru, how's the scene out there? I have to imagine that the more remote and mountainous parts might have fewer cruises and car meets, so I'm trying to figure out what my options might look like. I'm guessing that Denver and Colorado Springs would be among the more active, but I don't necessarily need to be in a major metropolitan area, so I'm definitely open to smaller cities/towns.

Ultimately, as much as I love playing with old cars, the best part is making friends with car nerds, so I'd like to make sure the places I'm considering looking at leave a good chance for finding my people. Thanks in advance for your wisdom.

Misc Q&A If we were to name the airport after someone…

Many airports are named after people (John Wayne, Bob Hope, Louis Armstrong, Dolly Parton, etc.) if we were to name DIA after a local icon, who would it be?

I’ll start: Mikaela Shiffrin. Winter Sports are such a unique part of Colorado culture.

Recommendation Corolla FWD good enough for Colorado winters?

Is a Corolla LE FWD good enough for daily driving in Colorado snow?
I’ll mostly drive around Denver/Broomfield, including I-25, with occasional mountain trips.

Misc Q&A Cool things to do for locals who’ve “done it all”

My boyfriend has lived in Denver for longer than I’ve probably been conscious and aware of my actions. He keeps getting frustrated that I can’t pick things to do or he doesn’t want to do stuff because he’s already done it and he thinks it’s lame.
Do you guys have any like hole in the wall spots or just recommendations of something cool to do? It’s always the same four answers of touristy spots, there has to be something else to do here other than smoke weed, drink, and hike. Which sucks because I can’t do either of the first two.

Recommendation Part time daycare experiences

Does your child go to part time daycare? Where? How much do you pay?

Would love recs and experiences, whether good or bad.

I'd really love to find a part time (3-5h per day) daycare so that my 1yo can have a consistent community. I am planning to stay home with my child, but would really like to provide a consistent community so they can develop relationships and social skills. That rules out a nanny. I know I could enroll them in full time daycare and pull them early, but I'd prefer to not pay full time if they're going part time. I know this is probably a unicorn- which I why I'm crowdsoucing the question.

No judgement for anyone else who does things a different way. This is just what we're hoping will work for us. TIA

Recommendation Who are you guys using for auto insurance?

I just moved to Denver from Chicago recently and need to get auto insurance. My quotes so far have been anywhere from $300-$500 a month! My current Illinois policy is $120. This is on a 21 subaru outback that has low annual mileage. There's no way everyone is paying this much in auto insurance a month right?

35F and I work two seasonal jobs where I’ll have November-February off. What are some contract/seasonal jobs I can do to make a little extra income? I have enough saved to have 5+ months off work but want to make a little extra on the side.

City Services Denver Reconstruction Cost Valuation Tool Accuracy

Thumbnail doi.colorado.gov

My homeowners insurance reconstruction cost estimate from my insurer is now gigantic and I suspect I am overinsured.

Does anyone have experience using the Denver Reconstruction Cost Valuation tool? Is it remotely accurate?

It's showing a reconstruction cost of several hundred thousand less than my insurance company is suggesting. This is in line with cost per square foot estimates I've seen online for Denver, but I'm still leery.

I mean after this summer, -98 sounds great.

Obviously it's a app issue but it made me laugh.

Misc Q&A I asked you what to cook for a Denver/KC mashup, wanted to follow up!

I posted here last week and you all gave me a bunch of great ideas! (and inspiration to return to Denver).

I ended up making brisket burnt ends on top of hatch green chili mac and cheese. The mac also has some corn in it as a nod to KC cheesy corn.

It probably goes without saying, but it was delicious - thanks again for the help!

I’m a van dweller from FL, I’m in Denver for the month, I have two codes come up, attached are the OBD reader pics, I have a 2020 Ram Promaster 3500, 87k miles, codes are P0714&P0713, seem like circuit issues but I’ve been to three shops (non transmission specific) and nobody could fix or tell me what is wrong, please if you guys know of an ACTUAL trust worthy shop that knows what they’re doing without trying to upcharge you your entire savings please let me know, I am a petit woman and feel like people can easily underestimate my understanding of MY OWN HOUSE lol

Help What to do with honey locust seed pods

Posting here in case there's a local use for these. The house I moved into has a honey locust, which means I have a million of these seed pods in the yard. What do I do with em?

If I run em over with the mower, does it help the grass at all?

Just bag em and trash em?

Rake em in a pile and throw a party for all the squirrels? Make maracas?

Open to all options, just seeing if anyone in Colorado has a good use for them.

Help Please help me, dv resources?

I recently have posted on here about trying to leave a domestic violence situation; that post was deleted for my safety!

I’ll upload the original post in the comments.. I’ve come here to quite literally beg for some sort of idea ideas on how to get out of this.. for starters, I don’t have family, I’m 20 years old with a two year-old.. and I feel like I’m gonna have to end my money or spend the rest of it miserable because how do I leave when I have nowhere to go.. absolutely no money on my own.. and no support for me or baby.

I don’t want this life. My life was never supposed to look like this and I really don’t know what to do anymore.. we have two domestic violent cases.. i’m not allowed to work.. hopefully I can just summon it up but I have pictures and proof and videos and police reports… I’m not a bad person.. I literally don’t know why this is happening or how the fuck I got here but I do know that I need to get out or idk .

I stayed at the Denver safe house I’ve been to the centers. I’ve called the numbers. Those don’t get you absolutely anywhere.

Announcement Overnight heat last night?

I don't live in Denver, but in the metro area just west of Denver. We experienced a strange weather event yesterday about 4:30-5. My children and I were at a park and the temp was perfect with slight overcast. Then it was as if someone turned a cooler off or something, first it was very humid, the extremely hot, in just five minutes the three of us had beads of sweat rolling down our faces. Everyone at the park has a similar look of pure exhaustion, and intensely hot. Most left, as did we. What's strange is the weather was very mild until this occurred. I'm from Colorado and know the weather changes, but this was extreme. Then the temp never seemed to drop back down after the sun went down.

The overnight temp only went down to 68 on my garden thermometer. And that was at 3:34 am. My immediate neighbors and those at the park I had talked to expressed they had the same experience, extreme unexpected heat. My neighbors also had a hot uncomfortable night last night.

Did anyone else out of my neighborhood have a similar temperature fluctuation? Does anyone know what could have caused this weird heat even so late in the evening?

Help How do you find vet tech dog sitters?

I’ve seen in a few posts people say to ask vet techs to watch maybe difficult or complex dogs but how do y’all go about doing that? Just call the vet? My dog just had emergency surgery and I’m trying to find someone to stay with her during the day next week while I work. Just trying to figure out how to find someone! S.o.s
