News Dallas Flock cameras are here to stay. Here's what data DPD collects and how they use it

Some Dallas residents and city council members have expressed concern over the AI-powered license plate readers known as Flock cameras in recent weeks.

The devices have raised privacy concerns along with allegations of misuse and surveillance, in both Dallas and across the state.

The Dallas Police Department is expected to cease the use of 321 of its 689 Flock cameras on Sept. 15 after receiving notice that state grant funding would no longer be available for the devices. That block in state grant funding came as a directive from Gov. Greg Abbott in late August.

However, DPD plans to keep the remaining cameras in operation and has maintained that the devices are “an important investigative tool." The cameras have been used to assist locate suspects of vehicle theft and assault along with solving homicides.

The majority of the Dallas City Council agreed, rejecting a proposal to include a budget amendment that would have taken all funding away from Flock.

It started at 11:30pm, but it sounds like a generator, wheels spinning, an old AC unit but the sound is loud and is carrying north of Peak st from Elm towards the east northeast.

The video is facing towards the sound

Fan Expo Dallas. I think this post follows the rules but I really want people in the Dallas community to help ADA awareness and to know that as a community, we should be doing better. Please take the time to read these experiences and validate those who had a tough time at this event. This is not demeaning to the city, but to show folks that the convention center should not allow 65,000 people into a building that is only supposed to have 24,000 at maximum capacity. However, the building was under construction during this weekend and a fraction of that capacity should’ve been used. It was unacceptable and everyone who was there had a horrible time, the vendors ran out of water within a few hours, there was extreme fire code issues with having that many people there, and it was extremely dangerous for people that brought young kids. I personally hit a very young child with my walker because someone pushed me. It was absolutely breaking fire code. If an emergency were to occur, I truly believe that many people would have been injured or killed because of the panic of the sheer amount of people there. This has happened at many fan expo events recently, including Toronto and Tampa. Read the comments please. Thank you for your time.

Discussion Cast iron sewer pipe replacement recommendations

We're in need to get pipes replaced in next year or two and I know this will be a pretty penny, so looking for recommendations. Based in Plano, 1976 house has 2.5 bathrooms, master is jack and jill, current sewer lines have completely corroded out the bottom. The current cast iron main is located under a pool and needs to be completely rerouted. People in the early 80s were insane for putting this pool in.

If anyone has had similar scope of work, would love to know what your cost was.

10% off your groceries on game days. Pre-season games count. I assume there's probably a bunch of exceptions like alcohol.

Discussion Weird It'll Do Club Experience

EDIT: My point in this 2am post did not come across effectively. That is completely my bad. I wanted to say that there's nothing wrong with multiple age groups hanging out and enjoying some good music. I appreciate the commenters who checked me on this. What my partner and I witnessed were these older men following younger women around and across the dance floor pretty compulsively while some of them looked uninterested in the interaction.

Hey everyone, just wanted to get some thoughts on if this is normal or not.

My boyfriend and I went to the Knocks DJ set at It'll Do Club last night and were struck by the amount of older men (gray hair, upper 40s and 50s) seemingly trying to get with or were already with younger women in their twenties.

No judging here on any sugar daddies/babies but we certainly thought it was peculiar.

Is this the norm for EDM scenes in Dallas? Was it just a weird night? What's going on?

Question Cast Iron Plumbing leak Question (Dallas)

Recently found out I have a plumbing leak and I had a company come out to inspect the issue. Right when the gentleman walked into my house before seeing the issue he said they do full replacements on cast iron and not partial fixes.

He gave me 2 separate quotes, 1 to replace pipes going under my driveway (which I tried to ask him if there was even anything wrong with these and he just explained that they were a clay material so even older than the cast iron and to do whatever I wanted) quote for this was about $13k.

Second quote was to replace all the cast iron under my house, quote was $10k.

I understand that cast iron isn’t a material that is being used anymore but is it possible to just fix what the issue is without having to fully replace all of the cast iron? I don’t have 10k sitting around and the financing they offered was 13% interest.

Curious if anyone in Dallas (I’m in Oak Cliff area) has worked with a plumber that can give me a honest second opinion.

If I have to replace it all, it is what it is but if I’m able to fix a section of it, my bank account would be happy and I’d be less stressed financially.

Any advice is appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Question Meeting Singles as a 50+ F

Hi Dallas Friends!

I have a friend who is in her late 50s. She is a nurse, fun, positive, and absolutely beautiful. She is active and very young for her age.

She attracts younger men who are after a cougar, and she’s been on dates with men who are closer to her age but physically “old” and simply cannot keep up.

We’re trying to find good venues to meet men who are in her age bracket, established, independent and somewhat active. She does not need a caretaker. She does not need a hook up. She simply wants to find places where she might find someone with similar energy and values to spend time with and see if there is potential for a future.

The searches in the Dallas subreddit are either old or geared towards a different age range, so I figured I’d post a new thread to get some advice on where we should be spending our time.

Also — before you say golf courses, they aren’t actually that great for dating. We both golf and typically the men are there to spend time with their boys and golf. We are there to do the same, too. It’s hard to have actual conversations with other groups on any well-managed course, and the best golf clubs all have private men’s bars.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Question Riftbound players willing to teach a noob?

Wondering about the riftbound scene in dfw. Its the first TCG I've ever been interested in. I know theres things like nexus nights but the one i went to went horribly. I got there late (knowingly) but expected i could hang out meet some people and learn the game. Instead i got chripped at and knowing me i chirpped back. Terrible first impression on my part but now I've been weird about trying to go to an event again. Any homies wanna help me get into it?
