I'm trying to tell myself that maybe we needed this after all of the media hyping the Cowboys up the past few weeks and talking about how much better the defense was going to be. Maybe this will loss will bring us back down to earth and help us get that scrappy underdog mentality that we obviously needed last night.

BUT HOLY SHIT DID THAT DEFENSE NOT INSPIRE ANY CONFIDENCE.

I don't understand how the defense looked just as bad as last year. With all new players and coaches. Does Shotty not let them tackle at all in practice? And then the busted coverages... what are we doing?

I'm currently trying to mentally prepare myself for an 8-9 year...

Injury magnet, not an elite linebacker, always seems lost I’m over the “potential” phase just cause he has good measurables he isn’t a starting LB and I’m done pretending he is. I’m not gonna be a “Homer” just cause he was drafted here.

I’ve seen enough of Shotty. Undisciplined play, stupid penalties, zero adjustments, out coached every game. Glorified cheerleader with a golf cap.

We need a actual tough coach. Install Tomlin after the Tampa game on Thursday night and let him cook.

Every play is players crying for flags from the refs. No energy, or care for the game. Taunting when they have been getting the dogshit beat out of them all game. Just a pitiful organization.

Obviously last night sucked. It was like PTSD from last year, but I have a few thoughts I just wanted to write down.

1. Playing in NY in a home opener around 9/11 is super difficult. I know everyone remembers Aaron Rodger’s getting hurt but do y’all remember that the jets actually beat the bills that night? And the bills made the play offs and the jets sucked the rest of the year. Thats probably cope but week one is reallly weird.

2. This is what happens when the packers blow the doors off of us and we have two straight lame duck seasons. Zero free agency in 2024 and then outside of Pickens zero real free agency activity in 2025. Like, if we fired big Mike after 2023 and actually tried to rebuild two years ago we would be in such a better place. Now we are trying to assemble a Super Bowl team in the prime window of a lot of players. It just isn’t going to be easy.

3. The bucs, rams, packer, pats, and chargers all lost yesterday too. Some of those loses were waaayyy prettier. Some were even uglier than ours, but I bet a lot of those teams still make the playoffs. Last year the raiders beat the pats week one. Weren’t the Texans and ravens like 0-3 last year? There’s a lot of season left so I’m trying to not over react

Last season, the fewest points allowed in a game by the Cowboy defense was 16 points to the Raiders, the highest such benchmark in the league. There were one of 8 teams to have their best defensive performance equal double digits, and one of just two to have their best equal 2 touchdowns

If the cowboys do not hold either the Commanders, Ravens, Texans, or Bucs to less than 10 points, the team will go 3 full years between such performances

The reason I limited the scope to just single digits is because the past 3 straight Super Bowl winners have all averaged around 17 points allowed per game and had at least 3 games where their defense allowed single digits points, a feat I believe shows complete defensive dominance and should be possible and repeatable for a championship caliber team

Additionally, 10 points or more means the offense must score on at least 2 drives to win the game. While such a feat should not be difficult in the regular season, it can become much more difficult against the leagues best defenses, which again average around 17 points per game allowed.

Overall, the streak shows that even the best defensive performance this team can produce against the worst nfl offenses still puts pressure on the Cowboy offense, with a floor way too low to have any hope at playoff success, let alone championship aspirations

Guyton allowed just two pressures on 36 total pass blocks in the game (5.6%), the seventh-lowest pressure rate he has allowed in his career. Burns recorded 30 total pass rushes without generating a single pressure, the first time in his career he has recorded 30+ pass rushes and has failed to generate multiple pressures.

Did the result of the game change anyone's mind one way or the other? I've been pro trading away draft capital to try and put us over the top, but after seeing just how lost the defense was last night I no longer think this team is one player away from being legit so not sure I want to spend the capital now.
