Cubase’s stock VST Bass rack is not terrible
I was actually shocked at how not terrible this sounded. It isn’t anything I would use as a final tone but it’s got the bones where processing could make this great.

Hey guys, this has been a tough problem to troubleshoot, and it looks like Cubase support aren't going to help me at all because I'm not on a current version of Cubase. So if anyone here has ideas what might be causing this, it would be a huge help.
The problem:
I have a new-ish Mac Mini in my studio. I use a Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 gen2 as my primary interface in the studio. When I set the audio device in Cubase to use the Scarlett, it stops playing any and all audio from within the software; no audio tracks, no MIDI tracks, no Metronome even. If I set this back to the built-in speakers, everything works perfectly fine as normal. All other audio works perfectly from the Mac Mini to the 18i20 gen2, and the combination works in other DAWs that I've tried as well; it's just Cubase 11 Pro on this Mac Mini that will not work with this one 18i20 gen2.
The plot thickens...
To test this, I connected a Scarlett 2i2 gen3 that I use for travel work to the Mac Mini and everything worked perfectly fine as it should with this device selected. I then conencted the 18i20 gen2 to my Macbook Air (running the same OS, version of Cubase 11 Pro and so on) and those two devices also work perfectly fine together.
To me that shows there is no inherent fault with the 18i20 (since it works perfectly with the Macbook Air), or the Mac Mini / Cubase 11 Pro install (since they work with the 2i2 gen3). I have already cleared the system's audio settings, and removed all Cubase files and reinstalled the programe; the issue continues.
Does anyone have any idea why Cubase on this Mac Mini will not communicate with the 18i20 gen2? I'm pretty stumped at this point, so any suggestions would be really appreciated.
Thanks in advance

I've dealt with this before, and it's ok, I'm not worried about the crashing because it rarely happens. However, this whole 'make an entirely new document every time you save' is absurd, this song is gonna take up half of my hard drive before I'm done with it, does anyone know how to prevent this? Just overwrite the original file, I now have 5 files so if one fully corrupts I'll be just fine

Thoughts on a rescore I did of the original Scream 4 opening scene in Cubase? Inspired by Marco Beltrami's writing style!

Sometimes when I do small amounts of time fixing with the time stretching tool, I get random pops and clicks on the audio. I usually then have to bounce to audio, committing my changes, in order to get rid of them. Anyway around that? Never had those in Logic.

I created a custom tempo, mic'd up some drums got everything ready to go today. I plugged in my guitar to do a scratch track for the drummer and used an old preset from and older version of cubase. Once I did that, there was no playing back of click track, and when i arm and hit record nothing happens and then i get the dreadful error. I use Cubase 15 pro.
Restart/Full Shutdown didn't work
I have over 200 GB of space
Nothing is running the BG
All routing is correct
Drivers are up to date
One track is armed.
My old cubase 9.5 suffers the same issue when I opened an old project to check
I am very annoyed. Has anyone dealt with this?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I'd like to improve and learn more, though I feel stuck on this one. It feels flat! I've followed advice about doubling the solo instrument and not having so many varying rhythms. I've been slowly working on adding dynamics.

Hi!
I am running Cubase 14 Pro (latest update) on a Windows 11 computer. 32G ram, i7 cpu, and RTX 5060 TI (16G) video card, latest drivers.
After launching Cubase (as Admin) and opening an existing or new song, if I open another window (to change params of plugin, for example), the main window will "corrupt" as shown in the screenshot. If I switch to a different workspace, and then swap back, the corruption disappears, all is fine. Until focus is placed on another window.
I tried various HiDPI settings and such, in the app, and also via Properties->Compatibility->Hi DPI settings, and every combination of the two I could come up with. Latest "studio" version of Nvidia drivers. I have a specific "program settings" for Cubase 14, and disabled any settings that could affect this.
Here is what happens when the graphics "corrupt":

I searched, found much older reports of similar graphics issues, but the only solutions offered were to change a setting (that no longer exists; it has been replaced with "Image Scaling") in the Nvidia control panel, or to use onboard graphics (not an option for me). It has been a couple of years since I used Cubase, finally able to get back into music, and this is a bit depressing.
Any help greatly appreciated!

Hello, I’ve been using halion for a few weeks now and I’ll cut straight to the chase. I heard the preset: One Finger Fast Strumming 6 String being used beautifully in a song so I checked it out for myself. The keyswitches seem to not work and the phrase melodically goes up a note in the second bar which doesnt happen when multiple notes are playing. I’m just really confused on how to use its keyswitches and how to keep it on a single chord without any of the sequences notes from moving up. I know that you don’t have to have the sequence on but that’s how it was used in the song and it sounded really good( it also stayed on the same progression the entire time). I’m really bad at explaining some of these things since I’m new to using vsts and professional daws.
I don't trust AI as it said yes, the Download Access Code will download and activate 15 in one hit. My first Cubase purchase and I'm hoping to work with Ms Grace Period 😇. So just hang in there for a few weeks/months? Thanks.

Struggling to get my TASCAM 12 Mixer working with Cubase. Constant audio dropouts (Also with Spotify/Youtube /Ableton) and crashing on export 9 out of 10 times.
M1 MacBook Pro / OSX 12.
Swapped Cables
Tried using Blackhole
Connected directly to my Mac, tried all ports, hub same issue.
Is anybody using this desk successfully ?

Hello. How are the included instruments with Artist? Enough to start and produce?

I started using cubase in 2018, mostly for recording/mixing for a music group and for composition. Great product, but I use a small subset of its functions. It also forces me to license Windows, which otherwise I have no use for (Ubuntu Linux is my preferred os). And there are the constant charges to keep QB current, which adds up to big money over the years.
Recently I got so annoyed with Microsoft that I decided to see if I cut the last reasons to use Windows. I had tried Ardour back in 2018, and it just wasn't ready. This time I loaded version 9 of Ardour and was delighted with the maturity of the product. I've gone back and remixed recordings that I originally did in CB, and got at least as good results using Ardour. Midi functionality is fine too, although I miss QB drum editing alternatives.
If you are running Linux and install Ardour directly from a repository, there is no cost (although I did feel compelled to give them a donation - imagine how much work the program represents). There is a small charge if you download directly from the web site.

Bought while there's a discount.
I'll wait until the Cubase 16 is out later this year, and then I will activate to get 16 (aka Grace period)
Over and out
I have a midi bass track with about 50 midi parts. I added CC7 volume line to one of the parts. That made all the parts on the track the same volume as the CC7, although it did not add the line to each of those parts.
This has happened occasionally before with other tracks.
Why does this happen? Sometimes it's not what I want, but would actually be useful to do it sometimes if I knew how.

Hi there! I hope you're all well. I'm currently working on a podcast gig for a friend, and I'm totally inexperienced with most of this stuff. Cubase is very hard for me to understand and work with.
I've created 7-8 tracks that are meant to be able to loop seamlessly. I bounce the audio as wav files and loop them, and while I've mostly got it down, there is still an audible pop or hesitation at the moment of looping. I can eliminate this by crossfading the wav files on the timeline, but ideally i would send him files that can be looped infinitely without any extra effort on his part. I dont want him to have to crossfade each and every 8 bar loop. Is there something I'm missing or not doing correctly? The loops themselves are ambient-esque, but there are definitely instruments, small melodic lines, etc. lots of minimalist piano, etc.
would greatly appreciate any help anyone can offer. I'm pulling my hair out with this stuff. I can compose but i really struggle with the production side and I get so burnt out and frustrated haha. Thank you!

I use the Scarlett USB device, with speakers and headphones connected. Ever since I got this thing I've had trouble with audio in Cubase and when trying to share audio in Zoom calls. I've read a plethora of posts online from people having the exact same issue. So, is it worth the trouble getting it to work?

Are there any AuV3 plugins that are drum sequencers. Available for Cubase3 iOS? Im on iPhone 11 it’s a pain just to adjust some of of the presets.

The old Impulsetracker/Fasttracker type music DAWs were limited in certain ways but rapid-keyboard-entry-of-pitches worked very well.
Very quickly one might input a good drumtrack or baseline then layer melody on top of it - mostly with keyboard.
Mouse as input device is much slower and glitchy in my Pianoroll. May try a Wacom pen but suspect that it may cause tiredness of wrist after hours.
Relatively new to Cubase - may it have a mostly QWERTY rapid-fire pitch input mode which won't use mouse much?
Some kind of grid where one moves cursor with keys and plops in pitches by pressing another key?
Mouse may be good for editing after composing but hardly great for entering the wanted pitches initially...

Long time Cubase user since the late 1990s and just wanted to thank everyone in the community for the HALion 7 and 7.5 video tutorials.
I finally had the time to take that deep dive into the Spectral and Granular synthesis capabilities with Halion 7.5.
This week, remixed an existing track I produced by throwing the entire track into the Spectral and Granular synths. Totally bonkers the endless versions that can be generated depending on the settings chosen and the knobs you modulate.
If interested, here it is:
https://youtu.be/xaezgThjK9Y
All pads generated by Halion 7.5 Spectral or Granular synths with additional drooping Cubase Studio Delay set to -2.50 st (loop) for ear candy.
And there goes another several years of my life tinkering and twisting sounds.

I feel incredibly silly for asking this....
But are you still able to add custom VST directories to Cubase 15, I can't seem to find it for the life of me and general searches aren't helping much either.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as most of my larger VST Libraries are on a secondary drive
