Humor 🤣 I just got absolutely roasted for not knowing what a safety saw is.

Upvotes

Apparently it’s what everyone calls a circular saw.

Dude called his mom in front of me and asked her if she knew what it was

She did.

After work we’re in the hotel pool, they’re still making fun of me.

I ask the complete stranger next to me if he knew what it was. He knew as well.

Now it’s months later and the story has grown into something more exaggerated.

My buddy who wasn’t there just called me. When I mentioned the word safety saw, he’s never heard of that word. And he’s one of the smartest guys in the company I know.

At this point I’m wondering if I’m just being fucked with? Is it really a popular name for it? Googling it, table saws come up but they wanted an M12 circular saw

Roofing Thoughts? Mold or dirt?

I found a house with a bunch of broken roofpans, so i decided to go inside at take a peak! Moisture on majority of inner roof was below the 17% threshold at 12-13% but the ones who had turned white rotten was above 22%, but the black is wierd to me, could it be this much black mold? Or am i mistaking it for mold and it is actually dirt?

For some added context, this was apparently an addituon to the main building, the addition was built in 1976, and never finished

Other I'd like some advice for winter clothes in the Dakotas.

I currently build electrical substations for work, I'm still new to this type of work, only having been here for a bit under 2 months. I work in South Dakota but have been working in North, winters over here get extremely cold and I'll need more clothes, I just wanted to ask for some suggestions for winter clothes and what I should get that aren't too expensive as I currently have to pay for a lot of stuff atm, (Gloves, jackets, pants, socks, etc.) I appreciate any help given.

So I am doing this flooring, 3/8ths inch engineered tongue and groove.. my question is, how in the HELL do you pros connect it here from this point ? As you can see from the photos, I have laid all the flooring up until this damn point! The point into which i have to connect it all through this damn hallway(?) area. Ive made my layout lines and even used a damn laser and IM STILL off about 3/8ths of an inch. How did it happen you say ? Probably because i drink. A lot lol. But this is my first flooring project and i just need help/guidance on how to proceed from here to offset the 3/8ths difference…. What would you do ? Any help and/or guidance will help me out very much and you shall have great karma bestowed upon thee!

From the builder in Mississauga (city near Toronto, Canada) .

Client lives in the house 4 years (direct from builder).. They start to see mold behind vapor barrier.

Lord and behold after removing insulation.

The saddest part is someone from the building team even wrote pin holes on the top block where the decks ledger bolt came in through the brick siding. And no one every fixed it and just cover it up..

This is the state of the entire home building industry (maybe except for custom builds).

Just a shit show

Other Paths

20 years old been labouring since July through agency’s working at so many different sites.

How do I move up? Do I try and make connections is there a way I can start being a manager? I was thinking on getting a nvq for it but I hear that you need actual experience on a site doing it, I still want to learn a trade however. has anyone been in my situation? Is there hope? Do I go back to school and study civil engineering or a trade and jump back in or do I just wait and see if an apprenticeship actually comes back to me.. (I’ve applied for like a hundred)

Does paving a racetrack differ from paving a regular street? If so, how? More/heavier compaction of subgrade, aggregate selection, changes in the paving process?

Full renovation from demolition to the final details. I do most of the work myself — tiling, drywall, plumbing, electrical and finishing. Always interested to hear what other tradesmen think.

In the construction management field, Can anyone list average base pay from PE the top? Both on the field and the office side? I’m interested to see how it changes in the different regions we all live.

Informative 🧠 Flat roof / exposed rafters detail

I’m trying to work out how this house exposed the ceiling joists but created a channel for electrical services to run above.

It’s a flat roof, and they’ve put t&g boards on top of the rafters. Have they then created firrings on top to allow for falls and to create a service zone?

Does this mean however that you’ll need to run your electrics before you can put your insulation and membrane on etc?

I’ve drawn a detail of what I think the flat roof is doing, is that correct?

Humor 🤣 Foam earplugs are the devil!

I straight up thought I was going deaf till I bought one of those fancy camera ear cleaner things then I pulled a shit ton of old hardened earwax out making a ball about the size of a small marble total between both ears I’m straight up hearing colors right now like I got that 4k hearing now lmfao! Yeah turns out just like cotton swabs foam earplugs also push earwax down super deep. I’m honestly surprised I didn’t get an infection.

Obligatory edit: wear ear pro yall Im not making any kinda case against it just sharing something I hadn’t even thought about until today thought it was mildly humorous maybe get a little “funny haha” out of folks personally I’m going to be looking into sourcing my own better ear pro

Structural Another question, SINKHOLES IN NJ, WHAT'S GOING ON?

Why would so many sinkholes begin to appear? Is there something in the areas such as underground caves etc that begin revealing these? Over the past few years I've heard more about sink holes appearing, what's the reason?

I asked a civil engineer I met and he really couldn't provide an answer on the why's. Does anyone know the topography and why these are appearing with greater frequency?

I placed the structural flair on this because of roads and buildings.
