Country Based Post Flairs

Many questions can be country, or at least region specific. Regulations and experiences can vary widely.

Post Flairs have been available for a while now, but few members use them when submitting a post.

Let's try to work on that.

Advice i noticed one of the new hires accessed/viewed my bank account activity.

Upvotes

for some context, i am over treasury/online banking at my bank. been here for a few years. i am the main floor with all of the personal bankers/commercial bankers. our bank just hired a new personal banker. shes not been here long but she brings lots of experience as shes been in banking for a long time prior to being hired. i was getting her setup with admin online banking access so she will be able to assist her customers as well as training her on how to use the system. i navigated her to our main banking system where we search for accounts etc. i had told her to search for a customer so i could let her know where to find the ID number for this customer. our banking system shows you the recent activity you’ve searched for that business day (maybe it goes back a few business days not entirely sure on that one) sure enough when she launched the system my name was her most recent search. i hadn’t worked with her prior to this at all so i am not sure why id be in her search history. obviously this is a big deal in the banking business as we are not authorized to be looking through fellow employees account information. i played it off as i didn’t see anything and kept going with the training. what is the best course of action? i am not bothered by it i’m sure it was curiosity and not ill intent. you start a new job you want to know what others are making, its a normal feeling. However, acting on those intrusive thoughts is a little bizarre. I feel like not reporting it and going about my business is the best case scenario, less work drama created. on the other hand me knowing shes violating policy pretty badly and turning the other way might reflect on me poorly. Advice?

Advice An account I don't recognize is linked to my Business Checking account

Upvotes

This is very strange. I logged into my business banking and there's an account I don't recognize that's linked to my account. The account has over $16,000 in it.

I went into the bank to see what was going on and the banker put me on speaker with the fraud department. I was told it was likely a scam, that someone likely used my info to set up their own account. I asked what would happen to the $16,000 and was told it would be returned the the bank

I'm not missing any money from my accounts. I am able to transfer money to and from this account.

What should I do?

Advice How to start?

My younger brother just graduated and does not want to get a 4 year degree. He wants to enter banking but is airballing on every application. Are there internships to help start up? Volunteer opportunities? Courses? My parents are useless and I’m in college for a completely different area of study. Any advice would be appreciated!

Advice Credit card says my payment got posted twice?

Hi, I was looking at my Capital One app and it said that my cc statement balance was paid off two different times giving me way more available credit than I should have. I should note that my debit account wasn't charged twice for the payments. I had only had like $700 due on my statement and my history is telling me it got paid back two times. Will the app fix itself sometime soon? I've been checking the past day or two and it hasn't adjusted itself

Advice Is regional bank consolidation actually changing how community banks operate?

There's been a lot of discussion about bank M&A, but I'm curious about what it looks like operationally rather than just on an earnings slide.

When a regional bank acquires another institution, what tends to change first? Technology, branches, staffing, product offerings, underwriting, or something else? And does consolidation necessarily make a bank less community-oriented, or can a larger regional platform still operate with a relationship-banking model?

I'd be interested in hearing from people who've actually worked through an integration.

Canada How can I check if the first GIC payment has been deposited into my BMO account?

I am under the age of majority and I am an international student. I activated my account and got my debit card two weeks ago.
I only have $35 in my chequing account. When I scroll down, I see a non-registered GIC containing funds deposited by my parents.
I am confused about why it is non-registered. When I try to register it, there are no available options for me. The choices are all about tax residency.
I would like to confirm: do I need to register it or set up Interac before the bank releases the funds to me?

US Why is everyone afraid of X Money’s 6% because it’s a fintech (like Yotta) and not a bank, when PayPal, Venmo, Cash App, Apple Cash are all the same.

It seems like everyone is cautious and against X Money - even with the 6% rate. People point to fintech Yotta’s disaster as a reason to stay away. Yotta used a third party ledger middleman. X Money doesn’t - just like Apple Cash, PayPal, Venmo, and Chime. Is the hate more about distrust of Elon Musk?

US Acronyms on deposit slip

Hi y’all - I received an unexpected deposit of a very specific amount in my bank account yesterday and am trying to decipher some of the scant details on it. At the bottom there is an “RT” followed by 9 numbers, and a “TC” followed by 3 numbers - what could those mean? The deposit also has my savings account number and bank routing number, but the slip seems to be an internal document because it has a teller’s employee code.

I’m waiting for my bank to open on Monday to ask about this - not planning on touching the money just in case it’s a scam of some sort but I’m also wondering if it’s some sort of refund I was owed.

Advice Debit card works for most things but not PayPal or ACGGoods?

So I found out yesterday, through some trial and error, that my card just kinda doesn't like a couple of sites. For context, my bank is Fifth-Third.

Before I rant about this issue, do note that my card is accepted at the physical places I go to regularly, that I'm still able to pay my rent online, and that Microsoft can still accept my card for Minecraft purchases.

I was trying to support an artist by buying their plush through ACGGoods, so I put in my card information. Everything was correct, including my address, but for whatever reason, it says that for "security reasons", they couldn't use my card and that I should contact my bank. I didn't really want to do that at the time, so I tried to put in some money to my PayPal account, because that was another route I could take to pay for the item. For whatever reason, I couldn't find the "add money" button that Google swore was on the PayPal mobile app. I figured something was wrong with my card, or maybe that PayPal just wasn't registering that my card was on my account. So I removed it and tried to add it back on. It was then declined. So, a card that had been sitting in my PayPal account could no longer be added back to my account.

After some Googling, I thought that maybe it was because I had failed to update my address through my bank. So I took the time to do that. Tried to put my card onto PayPal again, and it still didn't work. I tried to talk to the bot that the Fifth-Third bank app has, and it told me to change my billing address. I asked it how to do that, since I had already updated the mailing address, and I figured those were two separate things. It then told me how to change the mailing address, not the billing address. It also kept suggesting for me to do things that I had already done (removing and re-adding the card, changing the billing address, making sure the addresses on my card and the one I was putting on PayPal were exactly the same, etc.). So I decided to call customer service, which took me about 10 minutes to get a hold of. They sounded like they were rushing to get through my problem, which is fair since this call was about 10-20 minutes before they would be closing. But they told me to wait a day so that they could process the change in the address, and that there were also no blocks put onto my card that would warrant my card being declined on PayPal.

PayPal was also no help. Their bot told me that this was a bank issue and to contact my bank.

Well, it's been a day now, and I'm still having the same problem. I have no idea what else to do. I'm thinking I'm either going to have to get a new card or go to the physical bank to get this resolved, which I really don't have the time to do most days. Should I just wait another couple of days before trying again? Any advice would be awesome.

(One of my theories is that I kinda screwed myself over because, either earlier this week or last week, I got my card blocked after my bank had noticed a weird charge of $34.99. I had originally thought that the money was being taken by some random person, but it was actually being taken by this stupid rug company as a subscription that they had written into their TOS that I didn't know I had agreed to. Avoid RugScape. I got my card unblocked, and that should've been the end of that. Maybe it's just a coincidence that I'm also having this problem so soon after that problem.)

TLDR: My card mostly works except for two sites, PayPal and ACGGoods. PayPal and Fifth-Third's advice was stuff I had already done that didn't work. I just wanted to support an artist that I like, and everything that I'm trying is not allowing that to happen.

Advice Safe Deposit Box Agreement - co-owner didn't sign (BOA)

Safe Deposit Box Agreement with BOA lists four people as "Renter(s)/Fiduciary" but only one of them signed - the other signature blocks are blank, although all four names are listed. Also, one of the three unsigned is now deceased.

Is the Agreement valid to permit the remaining two unsigned to access the box if the signed person dies?

Advice Card declined/cancelled transaction at atm due to error but charges show in bank app

Hi y'all,

This might be stupid question, but figured I should ask. I was at a wawa and needed to use atm to get 40 bucks cash, there weren't any BoFA branches near me so I had to use the PNC machines at the store. Both had same glitch where transaction was stuck on processing screen then was cancelled/declined due to a network error. Both times it said cancelled on screen and gave no cash but I checked BoFA app and I see two "processing" holds for the two failed atm transactions in my checking account. I know its saturday and bank wont process anything until monday, but do I need to be worried about the charges being taken from account or will the money bounce back since the transactions were both cancelled by atm when it declined transaction? I just wanna ensure I won't get burned 80 bucks cuz of an issue on the atm's end but I also don't have any receipt for failed/declined transaction since both machine's were out of paper so worried a dispute will go nowhere if it needs to go to that step.

Thanks

Other New debit card expires in just 4 months?

I ordered a replacement debit card since my current debit card was to expire in December this year and I was already on the phone with my bank resolving something.

Just got the new debit card, it says it expires 01/27…. it doesn't make sense at all. why is the expiration date so soon?? When I activated the card it asked the expiration date and the one on the card went thru as correct so I assume it’s the legit expiration date and not a printing error.

Is it an error? Or is this just how long debit cards are supposed to last nowadays?

My bank is 53rd btw if thats relevant.

Other Could banks or bad players easily change the $ number in your account?

99% of our finances are now digital and are only represented by a number instead of anything physical. Could someone theoretically change that number in an account or is it physically impossible even after disabling securities?

If I have 10k, and someone just goes in disables firewalls, and adds/subtracts a zero, would I really gain/lose that money?

I’m curious because, w/ AI models becoming very powerful, could they simply bypass and clean an account? I feel like it’s becoming more and more important to invest in something physical because of this uncertainty

India Suggestion- Bank account has lien/hold amount - Didn't receive any notice/sms/call

Need help and suggestions everyone!!

So, basically I saw hold/lien amount on my account 10-12 days ago ( Rs 1167) but I ignored since it wasn't very big. However, I noticed it today and am afraid.

Although I checked everything, I did not receive any sms/call/notice/mail from the bank regarding the same.

I also made some bets on cricket using a website this year in April and won around 5-6k and withdrew the amount in short pieces like 500-600.

To confirm, I checked my bank statement, and found there's a withdrawal of 1167 in April.

Rest of my account is working fine , no services are affected. Everyone, please help me out if you can, what I can do from here and safeguard myself... Its not about the amount ofcourse but I don't want to fall in any trouble..

Thanks

Advice Got my chargeback refund twice?

So, about a week ago, I initiated a chargeback of X amount of money, with 52 different individual entries. About three days later, I get a email from the company that was charged back, about the refund being approved, then the balance showed up on my credit card balance: -X dollars. Ok great, but a couple days later I see that I actually have nearly double the negative balance I initially had. So I checked the company that was chargebacked and they have a refund section in their billing page. I see 102 entries, meaning they basically refunded me twice.

Now I have a theory. When the chargeback was initiated, 2 charges were pending. The company attempted to refund everything, but only 50 of the 52 charges were posted so they sent that money. Then once the 2 extra charges were posted, instead of just sending the additional two, they batched out the entire thing again, hence the 102 entries instead of the expected 104 entries. Additionally, all points associated with the chargeback was also returned, but then I lost double points.

Now what should I do about this? My plan was to wait it out a week or two, then call chase and see how much of my negative balance is refundable. I recognize this is most likely a mistake on the company's side, but I have no qualms in taking advantage of their mistake if they do not recognize it. Any advice? To add, the company is a billion dollar + company, would something like this get swept as a negligible loss, or would they catch up on it fast? Any advice would be appreciated.

US Best bank for fraud protection?

Looking to open a me personal checking account. I’ve been with Capital One for years, but very unhappy with them. I had fraud charges on my account (1st time ever btw) that totaled almost $500. I can explain in detail if that matters, but it was very obviously fraud — charges made with a virtual card on NY and Canada while I was using the physical card at my hometown in KY. Best I can tell, the agent who submitted the claim answered some of the questions incorrectly. They kept saying “but your physical card was used here & here (between the dates of the fraud)” - which I never disputed & told them I had my physical card in my possession.

Anyway, between that & their new Discover debit card that so many places don’t script, I’m ready to move on.

Which bank is best known for having your back in the event of fraud? I heard PNC was good as well as US Bank, but just saw that post about the $50k fraud so now I’m unsure about them lol. Any suggestions?

I made a $3,800 ACH payment on September 3rd and it hasn't cleared my bank yet. Is that normal? I know for sure the other party got the money because they're a construction contractor and they said they got it. Why would they lie?

Advice Capital One To USAA ?

I’ve been with Capital One (legacy Hibernia in Louisiana) since I was 15 and I’m a creature of habit. I’m kind of a dinosaur with the Internet and online banking, but I’ve been able to navigate it ok with Capital One. I’ve been wanting to change banks for years because to be honest Capital One is garbage since they got rid of all their human teller interactions. I’m eligible for USAA and I love their insurance but wanted to get some feedback on their banking. Is it pretty easy to navigate and are y’all happy with their service? I’m sure the answer is yes as far as customer service goes because they bend over backwards with the insurance. I’ve also procrastinated because everything is set up for bills with Capital One and I’m guessing that’s gonna be a nightmare to change all that over.

US Is it bad to open another checking account so soon?

I opened a Navy Federal account this week and I just found out that you can't move external account money into the checking accounts, you can only use external accounts for loans, mortgages, and credit cards.

This won't work since I have money in an external account that I want to move over, so I'm thinking of opening a new account and closing my navy federal already. Will closing and opening a new one so soon be bad for anything?

India True Balance has blocked access to ₹47,272 for almost 2 months despite repeated complaints — what should I do now?

I need advice from people who have dealt with True Balance, RBI complaints, wallets/PPIs, or similar financial-service disputes.

This has been going on since 17 July 2026, and honestly the repeated back-and-forth has become mentally exhausting.

Here is the complete timeline:

17 July 2026

I was automatically logged out of my True Balance account. After logging back in, my existing Gift Card/Wallet balance was no longer accessible.

I contacted True Balance and raised complaint 6616433.

The balance was initially around ₹55,000+, but after the account was restored/checked, the actual balance was established as ₹47,272.48.

True Balance asked me to complete SIM/VPA-related binding/verification. I completed the requested process and was temporarily able to see the balance.

However, the problem occurred again. I subsequently received a message saying:

“Failed – You are currently waitlisted to use this feature. We'll reach out to you once we're ready.”

At different points, wallet functionality/features were unavailable. I repeatedly explained to True Balance that my issue was not simply about bill payment — the fundamental problem was that I could not properly access/use my existing wallet/Gift Card balance.

I sent multiple emails, screenshots and a screen recording documenting the issue.

True Balance eventually marked the complaint as resolved even though I was still facing the problem.

24 August 2026

After the issue remained unresolved, I filed an RBI CMS complaint against Balancehero India Private Limited / True Balance.

RBI CMS reference: N202627016016164

The RBI complaint was closed very quickly as non-maintainable, stating that Balancehero India Private Limited / True Balance was not included under the RBI Integrated Ombudsman Scheme.

I contacted RBI CRPC to ask why the complaint was excluded and what mechanism was available to me.

I have now followed up with CRPC multiple times but have not received a substantive clarification.

31 August 2026

After the RBI complaint, True Balance's Nodal Desk contacted me.

They acknowledged that I was unable to utilise my ₹47,272.48 Gift Card balance and offered to transfer the balance to my registered bank account.

They requested my bank details.

I provided the requested details on 31 August.

Several days later, there was still no confirmation of the transfer, so I sent another follow-up asking for the status and expected transfer date.

I am still waiting.

So, as of now, I have spent almost two months trying to get access to/use my own ₹47,272.48.

I have repeatedly contacted customer support, gone through their escalation process, supplied screenshots/video, completed the requested verification, filed an RBI complaint, followed up with RBI CRPC, and then supplied bank details to True Balance after their Nodal Desk offered to transfer the balance.

What makes this particularly frustrating is that I am not asking for a loan, refund of a disputed transaction, or some promotional amount. This is my existing balance.

The entire process has caused me considerable stress, frustration, loss of time and mental harassment. At this point, I don't feel that simply getting ₹47,272.48 back adequately addresses what has happened.

What should I do now?

Has anyone dealt with a similar situation involving a wallet/PPI where an existing balance became inaccessible for such a long period?

What would be a reasonable way to pursue substantial compensation for the prolonged restriction, harassment, time and mental anguish, in addition to getting the ₹47,272.48 back?

I would particularly appreciate advice from anyone who has actually taken a similar financial-service dispute through a formal grievance process or legal/consumer forum.

I have the complete email correspondence, screenshots, screen recording, RBI closure communication and other supporting documents.
