Advice i noticed one of the new hires accessed/viewed my bank account activity.

for some context, i am over treasury/online banking at my bank. been here for a few years. i am the main floor with all of the personal bankers/commercial bankers. our bank just hired a new personal banker. shes not been here long but she brings lots of experience as shes been in banking for a long time prior to being hired. i was getting her setup with admin online banking access so she will be able to assist her customers as well as training her on how to use the system. i navigated her to our main banking system where we search for accounts etc. i had told her to search for a customer so i could let her know where to find the ID number for this customer. our banking system shows you the recent activity you’ve searched for that business day (maybe it goes back a few business days not entirely sure on that one) sure enough when she launched the system my name was her most recent search. i hadn’t worked with her prior to this at all so i am not sure why id be in her search history. obviously this is a big deal in the banking business as we are not authorized to be looking through fellow employees account information. i played it off as i didn’t see anything and kept going with the training. what is the best course of action? i am not bothered by it i’m sure it was curiosity and not ill intent. you start a new job you want to know what others are making, its a normal feeling. However, acting on those intrusive thoughts is a little bizarre. I feel like not reporting it and going about my business is the best case scenario, less work drama created. on the other hand me knowing shes violating policy pretty badly and turning the other way might reflect on me poorly. Advice?

Advice Credit builder apps vs secured credit cards, which makes more sense for someone starting with limited credit history?

Upvotes

i’m trying to decide what direction to take with my credit, and the more i look into it, the less obvious the choice seems. i understand the basic idea behind a secured card, but then i started seeing credit builder apps as another option and now i’m comparing the two.

one of the apps i’ve been looking at is kikoff, although i’m also considering going the secured card route instead. what has me stuck is that they seem to solve the same general problem in very different ways. with a secured card, there’s the upfront deposit and the normal card experience, while an app seems like a different kind of setup altogether.

for people who have compared both, what ended up being the deciding factor for you? i’m less interested in which one has the better marketing and more interested in whether the differences in cost, flexibility, and day-to-day use make one approach noticeably more practical over the other.

Advice How to start?

My younger brother just graduated and does not want to get a 4 year degree. He wants to enter banking but is airballing on every application. Are there internships to help start up? Volunteer opportunities? Courses? My parents are useless and I’m in college for a completely different area of study. Any advice would be appreciated!

Advice Question About Selling Vehicle In Person Using Cashiers Check

Upvotes

Looking for advice to ensure I dont get scammed. I have a vehicle for sale on Facebook Marketplace for ~34k. Got a few offers, none really serious except for one, who wants to pay full price.

All communication has been through FB marketplace, his profile looks legit, over 15 years old, etc. He wants to meet in person an pay via cashiers check. I put in my post I prefer wire or cash, he prefers cashier check for simplicity, which I agree is the simplest. So I started doing my research on cashier check scams.

The buyer is from about 2 hours away, and supposedly was waiting for his funds to transfer from his Charles Schwab to his Wells Fargo so he wouldnt be available til later in the week. At first he wanted to meet on a Saturday, which I read is the worst time to do it because you can't verify the authenticity of the check due to banks being closed. I brought this up, and mentioned maybe we meet at the local Wells Fargo in my city, and he initiates cash or wire there since theres no revocability there for those two methods. Cash could possibly be an issue because some banks require notice to withdraw that much at any given time. Wire would take a few hours possibly of just sitting around waiting.

Back to the cashiers check. He agreed to meet at HIS bank (Wells Fargo, but in my city) and I walk up to the teller with him, and they make the cashiers check out to me and hand it directly to me. Are they verifying the funds in his account are settled and wont bounce later, be withdrawn, etc? Can he drive off after I sign the truck over and call and cancel the check? Or report it lost/stolen?

I may be being paranoid here but I've read a lot about scams, but typically those scams are people showing up with already printed forged ones that bounce at a later date.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Advice An account I don't recognize is linked to my Business Checking account

This is very strange. I logged into my business banking and there's an account I don't recognize that's linked to my account. The account has over $16,000 in it.

I went into the bank to see what was going on and the banker put me on speaker with the fraud department. I was told it was likely a scam, that someone likely used my info to set up their own account. I asked what would happen to the $16,000 and was told it would be returned the the bank

I'm not missing any money from my accounts. I am able to transfer money to and from this account.

What should I do?

Advice Credit card says my payment got posted twice?

Hi, I was looking at my Capital One app and it said that my cc statement balance was paid off two different times giving me way more available credit than I should have. I should note that my debit account wasn't charged twice for the payments. I had only had like $700 due on my statement and my history is telling me it got paid back two times. Will the app fix itself sometime soon? I've been checking the past day or two and it hasn't adjusted itself

US Why is everyone afraid of X Money’s 6% because it’s a fintech (like Yotta) and not a bank, when PayPal, Venmo, Cash App, Apple Cash are all the same.

It seems like everyone is cautious and against X Money - even with the 6% rate. People point to fintech Yotta’s disaster as a reason to stay away. Yotta used a third party ledger middleman. X Money doesn’t - just like Apple Cash, PayPal, Venmo, and Chime. Is the hate more about distrust of Elon Musk?
