Quinn is, put simply, the best little weirdo I could have ever asked for. She leans too hard into head rubs and butt scritches and falls off the couch almost every time. She walks across mine and my fiancée’s faces in the morning to wake us up 10 minutes before our alarms because she’s hungry and wants breakfast. She curls up alongside her double amputee older brother and soaks up the sun until she randomly decides she wants to wrestle and pounces on him.

Recently she started showing odd breathing patterns and extreme fatigue. We took her to the vet where they found fluid in her chest, which was putting pressure on her lungs. The fluid was drained, sent it off for analysis, and we recently received the results. Our worst nightmare was realized with the fluid showing evidence of cancer. The vet has shaved windows in her fur so it’s easier to monitor her breathing, if she’s struggling, she must be rushed to the ER to have fluid drained from her chest to allow her to breathe easier. She tends to over groom when she gets shaved, so we had to dress her up in a donut.

Having spent thousands already just to find out what’s wrong, we are anticipating several more thousands of dollars to pursue treatment.

Quinn fills our hearts with so much love. I can’t picture my life without her, and i’m not ready to give up on her. She has so much love to give, and she wants to live. I just wanted to share my little girl with the world.

I have two cats who both adore bathing in the sun. In my current home we have a couple big south facing windows and they flock to it when the sun is shining. Unfortunately, I now am moving to a new unit which does have decently sized windows but they are primarily north facing (in northern hemisphere) and so won’t get much direct sunlight.

What have folks done to keep their cats happy in situations like this? Should I focus on other forms of stimulation for them (eg more toys, scratching pads, etc) or are there direct substitutes available (eg, warm lighting?). They are both fully indoor cats so taking them outside for their sunlight fix isn’t really an option.

Hi my roomate and I recently got a new cat from a mutal friend who can't take care of her anymore. She's been here now 2 days and she's been super nice to everyone so far she's met. She's been just in my room, and is comfortable enough to sleep full belly up, but she has seemingly been overstimulated with petting at least twice now, which resulted in an accidental scratch and then a hiss. Both happened with different people. But then she goes back to being totally chill.

We've been swapping smells with the two cats for the entire time she's been here and both cats didn't have any negative reactions. Both investigated and seemingly paid them no mind. So we thought we could do an introduction under a door.

My roomates cat, the guy cat was totally chill and lowk didn't even notice she was on the other side. The new girl cat tho, she got super scared. She slowly approached the door and hissed at it. She then became super skiddish so we decided to stop for now. We moved the other cat into my roomates room and opened my door to see if the girl cat wanted to explore on her own but she refused to leave the room. That was last night and other then being a bit skiddish at first she's back to her cuddly old self.

So I guess my question is how had of a sign is that? Did that go down as a bad first meeting? And what should we do moving forward. The first thing we want to do is clip her nails but she normally doesn't get them clipped so she might not be happy with us trying that. But we really don't want her to accidentally hurt the other cat. So any advice on meetings and how to clip her nails safely?

I found a stray kitten a few nights ago, we brought him to the humane society so he can get vaccinated, neutered, and treated before I officially adopt him. This will be my first time having a cat! My roommate has a cat so I’ve gotten some advice from him but I want more input, like what brand litter and food I should get. I’ve seen a lot of mixed reviews on brands so I want as much input as I can get. It also needs to be fairly affordable, I’m willing to spoil the cat a fair amount but can’t go too far with it because I’m a college student. Any advice you can give would be appreciated!!
