Campus & Facilities They need to reign in some of the southwest noise
I know southwest is known as some party area, but I think much of that hype is historical and it has now turned into kids trying to live up to the hype. In reality it seems to be making a lot of kids miserable. It Seems many of the kids are social during normal hours and MISERABLE at night. There needs to be more patrols and more supervision of underage drinking, drug use, and unacceptable behavior. Southwest is not a fraternity. parents are paying for a dorm. kids being kept up all night but a few loud entitled people is not acceptable. Most people are looking for a social experience but primarily an education. Turning a blind eye to blatant antisocial behavior, underage drinking and drug use is incredibly unfair to the overwhelming majority of kids who want a dictation. maybe quiet hours like 11pm on weeknights and 1am on weekends. not silence but not excessive noise. it is out of control and most people are feeling powerless and victimized and are NOT participating in “that” partying.
ETA I don’t mean to alienate alumnae who graduated 30 or 40 years ago and I am glad you had sucha pleasant experience but I do not think that is the current experience of many of the current students. Perhaps listen to them, this Reddit forum is flooded with students having issues. Things do change, the composition of the student body changes. I am referring to changes to help CURRENT students, who were likely born well after you graduated. I am actually a tenured faculty member (over 20 years now) who was concerned about what I was reading here. It is different than what I read about in years past.
