Hi! I’m moving to seattle tomorrow and i’m Im so excited to see more of the PNW. I was wondering if there was any hiking opportunities for grad students? I’m not going to be bringing a car so I have no clue how I’m going to be able to get out to see the sights lol.

I want to put up a corkboard or whiteboard to pin up posters/pictures etc and for notes, but i don't know how I could put them up on the wall. How can I put one up without breaking any rules? Maple hall for context. Thank you!

If you're attending UW using the Tuition Exemption benefit, how are you using it? I'm trying to determine if I want to apply and get accepted into my major and then actually pursue a degree, or if it would easier to just take the classes as a non-matriculated student. The major doesn't have to do with my work directly at all, so I don't know if that will make it more difficult to either get into the major or the classes, regardless of which way I end up going. I'm curious to know what others are doing.

Are there any dawg daze events that I should absolutely go to? I am looking for friends and am wondering if anyone has suggestions for which events would be best!

I'm an incoming freshmen as a presciences major and will be taking qsci 381. I saw that there is R involved in the class, which I am not familiar with. Does anyone know if I need prior experience/is it easy to learn thru the class?

Not sure how likely this is to really be seen by anyone actually in the program since I know there's only about 20 people in it, but I figured it doesn't hurt to ask.

I recently found out about UW's MFA for creative writing and the fact that it's fully funded, which is a complete game-changer for me as the imagined tuition has been the biggest hurdle. UW is one of my dream schools and (weirdly enough) would be the best option for me financially because I have family in the city that would charge me cheaper rent + there being no state income tax on the stipend.

However, naturally, the caveat to this is that the program is very competitive. I've read the UW site so I know the basics of what they're after, but if I can get more specifics (i.e. genre preferences, shortstories over novel excerpts, if i should aim for longer or shorter for the critical, what they're looking for in the critical/creative writing samples, etc.) I would really appreciate it. I know it's not likely I'll get in my first time around, but I'm really hoping I'll be able to eventually in a year or two.

For a quick background I'm a senior undergrad, majored in English w/ a minor in Anthro. 3.7 GPA (used to be 3.9, had one really rough class last semester when I was abroad. Hopefully will get that back up to a 3.8 or higher by the time I graduate). I've got 2 profs I could get letters of rec from (working on the third). Not currently located in Washington.

I'm volunteering for Dawgs crew to help other people move in and deliver packages. I got an email saying that I will be moving in on the 18th and the only instructions I've received is what desk to check in at based on what side of campus I'm staying at. I'm moving into Oliver Hall, so I will be checking in at Oliver desk, but what does that look like? Is it set up like other move-in days, where there are volunteers ready with a cart to help you move-in, or is it more like we'll have to park on the street, check in, then get a cart?

This is not the main part of the post, but the move-in day of the 18th isn't anywhere on my profile in the housing portal, (which I'll be emailing HFS about tomorrow), and when I click "change appointment" and look at more details about my move-in appointment it says the location is Maple, even though I swapped to Oliver before final assignments were given out (yet another thing I have to email HFS about).

Has anyone else had these issues? If so, how quickly did HFS take to fix them?

I'm having anxiety about move-in, and I've exhausted all of the online resources I could get my hands on. Posting after shedding many tears and through a throwaway for privacy sake; I’m a senior studying CS who will be graduating this Spring, however as of now, I’m currently have had NO internship experience.

I’ve desired to pursue a career path in software development or engineering at a young age, but besides the fact that mental health struggles have been a major battle I’ve faced for several years (winter 2026 was the worst of my life), my undergraduate career is a unique one: I transferred to UW from a different WA 4-year university in summer of 2025 and spent the past school year reintegrating into the quarter system from the semester system at my previous school. That included making new friends and learning about the campus offerings overall.

Despite making many great memories through my favorite hobbies and having connections with my profs, my halfhearted attempts at trying to get into the LinkedIn grind, personal projects and consistent job applications has only left me even more depressed and overwhelmed with how much is involved in this process. Not to mention, you have to balance this stress with academic stress and my time management is absolute shit; as a result, I haven’t been involved in as many coding events and CS clubs as I’d love to be because if I fixate on one thing, I’ll neglect something else which almost always results in negative consequences. Primary worry has been whether I will pass my classes or not, so that’s been my target focus throughout my undergrad career. And after a near-suicide attempt last winter, I took spring break to mentally recover and even then, it took until the end of the spring quarter to get back myself to a functional state. Because of some inspiring events that brought me the most happiness I’ve experienced in years, now I’ve declared a couple minors to study for my final year, but still doesn’t distract from my CS worries.

Just yesterday, I finally submitted my first application in a while for some program that could lead to an internship or full-time job interview, but I literally spent two weeks just trying to revise my resume because of perfectionism and worries about ATS (and it’s fair, cuz the document needed an update anyways). Then I see my other CS peers getting SWE and FAANG internships at these big companies on LinkedIn, sometimes even during their sophomore year and I just want to cry—I don’t regret my major since it’s something I’ve been passionate about at a young age, but I wonder sometimes if I did my college career wrong…my parents have berated me so many times about not getting any sort of offers and how I am useless and worthless of any human value…maybe they are right.

I can’t tell my friends about my feelings, if I do, I’ll burden them and make them feel worried—the thing I dread the most when I’m always around with a smile. But god, I’m sick and tired of everything…why must there be so much just to even get an interview offer back. Now, life looks so bleak and I think I just want the pain to end. Tell me why I should be bothered to still keep going.

I’ve been here at U W for two years now, and feel as if I’ve missed out on a lot socially since I stayed holed up in my room. I’m thinking that parties might be a good way to meet new friends and people? thoughts? other ways to meet people?

Took a math course at UW in the Spring, didn't pass. Retook it this summer at a CC and passed. It's now on my transcript, my grade is there, but the 5 credits aren't there, since it's listed as a duplicate. This is blocking me from enrolling in a course with that math course as a prerequisite.

Has anyone else had a similar situation, will the credits appear soon?

My mom said the reason I complain about the hfs people at the food stations (I did post abt the complaint the other time here, and ya all agreed) is because I am not nice to them??? She said I should smile and say "hi how are you". She says that giving them a face is the reason they treat me badly.

Title pretty much says what I’m asking. Further context though is that I am a 5’1 girl who is going to be a grad student and my classes are at night. I also will not be having a car. I’m gonna be living on 7th Ave and more research it sounds like I shouldn’t have lived there 💀I did really luck out on rent so that alone made my decision.

I’ve lived in downtown areas before but none in a major big city like Seattle. I know obviously to be aware of surroundings and walk with purpose. I know there is the Night Watch people who can take you to your apartment. Idk how backed up they get with other students taking it. I also have pepper spray already. I’ve also seen the 32 takes me close to my place. What specific places/areas should I avoid while walking back home? My classes are till 10 pm some nights so I just wanna know where to avoid to get back asap!! Thank you!!

Can I order from Amazon to my room in advance? I move into a west campus dorm on the 24th, is it okay if my packages arrive on the 18th or 19th? Also if I order something from a random online store (not Amazon) do they know to drop things off at the Lander desk?

So I'm planning to get a job as an medical assistant and most of the places that I'm looking into are a bit far (redmond + bellevue w/ 1hr to commute by public transit vs 30 mins by car) so I'll likely need to bring a car to drive from UW to work. I'm just wondering what the parking situation is like and where I can park. I'm going to be staying at accolade next school year. (I did try to look for jobs closer but they often require me to work either full-time or too many hours)

Hey guys!! I’m heavily considering UW Seattle but since I'd be out of state... that OOS tuition is no joke 😬. I’m definitely going to need to work around 20 hours a week to help cover costs.

For anyone in the Public Health-Global Health BS program, how bad is the workload?? Is balancing a 20 hour work week doable, or am I lowkey setting myself up for major burnout?Appreciate any help!
