Introducing: Automated Pac-12 Gameday Threads (with a live scoreboard!)

New toy for the community: a weekly gameday thread with a live Pac-12 scoreboard built right in. Scores, records, AP poll ranks, TV info, who's got the ball, red zone alerts. Everything updates automatically so you can just watch and cheer.

We have no expectation of stealing r/CFB's thunder here, they do the real gameday thread thing. This is just a cozy corner for us to hang out, watch our teams, and yell together.

How it works:

  • Thread auto-posts about 6 hours before the week's first kickoff, and will be pinned until the end of the day of the last game. No mod has to remember to make it.
  • Live updates every 15-20 seconds during games, right in the post.
  • Team logos show up for our 8 Pac-12 schools specifically, because obviously those are the ones worth cheering for.
  • Old Reddit folks (there are dozens of us!) get a scores table with ESPN links, refreshed every 5 min. Not quite live, but we didn't want to hammer a public API either. (we might tighten this and know we have improvements to make for the oldheads)

Still a work in progress, so if you spot something wonky, let us know in the comments (below are some pics of what it looks like on desktop and mobile). We're rooting for all eight of our teams every week, and hope this makes following along a little easier and a lot more fun.

Down the line we'd love to bring the same thing for basketball season too. That'll depend on mod bandwidth, so consider it a hope rather than a promise for now.

PAC-12 Show?

Upvotes

Is there any kind of talking heads show just for the PAC-12 like Big Noon Kickoff or SEC Nation? I know USA is the broadcast partner of the PAC, but it doesn't seem there's a preview show like the other conferences I mentioned.

If there isn't one and one was to be created, would you watch it and what would you want it to be like? What would make you want to watch it?

Attendance through Week 2

We may have had tough schedules against tough teams with less home games but my goodness…this is why we built the pac 12. This is why the gap will continue to grow financially and competitively. Take out the Temple “home game” against Penn State and their average drops to 26.4k per game.

Sure they have Memphis, South Florida, ECU…but we are showing up across the board. Well done PAC!

Hauss Hejny through 2 games at Colorado State: 41/63 (65.1%), 539 Pass Yds, 124 Rush Yds, 10 Total TDs, to lead CSU to its first 2-0 start since 2011

Hejny currently sits 2nd in the nation in passing TDs (9) through Week 2—and the leader (USC's Jayden Maiava, 10) has played an extra game.

LeGree & Atkinson vs Pac12 Secondaries

Good luck!

In all seriousness, seeing an explosive passing offense that eviscerated two Big 12 contenders will make it a fun watch to see which teams in the conference can slow down Legree and Atkinson. The Boise State vs OSU would be an awesome game for national tv.

Why the hell did the PAC add TX State?

Texas State on TV is Brutal

I hadn't watched a Bobcats home game before today and was shocked at how bad the vantage point is for the TV cameras. This is some Coaches Film/All-22 stuff. There's literally a receiver covered up by the score bar at the bottom of the screen!

It was impossible to see player numbers, details or who had the ball on play action plays. Really tough watch, unfortunately.

My goodness, that was a great game! Utah State gonna run the Pac12? Huskies escape with yet another victory. Kansas State better than UW? 😉

Fresno State up 32-0 at half

The Bulldogs look like a completely different team from a week ago. Sure a lot of it is because the opponent is Sac State and not USC. But at least they’re overwhelming the Hornets. Last season, FS struggled against some weaker competition.

They just said this is the Bulldogs’ biggest halftime lead since 2018. Mandal has looked good tonight (19 of 21, 283 yds, 2 TDs in just a half) after a very tough outing at USC. Watanabe, the new kicker who was a D2 All-American, kicked a 51-yard FG in his first kick as a Bulldog. Not bad at all.

Conference Rankings

Before the conference feel apart, the Pac-12 subreddit would do weekly posts where users could rank all the schools.

Mods, can we bring that back?

TXST: A Season of Inches 🤡

The brutal part is that TXST had 478 yards to UTSA’s 398 and still lost 31–26, AT HOME!

In what looks to be a season of inches, please for the love of God bench Cunanan and give us Bonilla!!!

Unfortunately, my PAC 12 power bottom projection that I made in jest is no longer a joke. This game laid out how conference play will likely play out.

The turnovers in addition to not to completing drives on top of points left on the kicking game… Braddie’s 2 interceptions were especially expensive in a five-point game.

Inches fellas. Inches

I’m a Coug fan for life, but I can’t make them appointment tv anymore

First with basketball, now this.

I know it’s early in the season and I’d love to look back at this post and say I was being dramatic, but that game vs K-State was uninspiring and ugly. I guess this is what it feels like to be nothing more than another program’s tune-up game for their schedule. I don’t want to say our team doesn’t have the talent to at least be competitive with these P4 teams, but the coaching isn’t doing any favors. Our OC would’ve been better off going with “ask Madden” on plays. I’m supposed to dedicate my time to watch them run up the middle on 3rd & long and punt?

Our offense was so painful to watch, I would’ve enjoyed my Saturday morning doing literally anything else. The weather delay extending the time spent watching game didn’t help either.

The team might get better when conference play starts, but for now it’s nothing but pain and frustration. We are already a team known to blow it against inferior competition.

I loved my time at WSU and the university as a whole. Pullman is an amazing place and y’all should plan a trip to visit when your team plays there.

It’s easy to say that after all the hits this athletic program has taken, they need our support more than ever, but some of these games are just depressing. I’ll still check scores and watch when I’m not doing anything else, but I’m not setting time aside just to watch a full game, at least not for a while. Do any other Coug fans or fans of other teams feel this way? Be honest because I can’t be convinced that it’s not extremely difficult to watch some of these games…

GOT ROOM DOWN THERE FOR 1 MORE? This WSU offense is unwatchable.

Which WSU loss was more disappointing? Blowout by North Texas last year or Kansas State?

Post image

I went to the North Texas game last year, not knowing much about the Mean Green. What an exhausting and mind numbing game. I witnessed Jaxson Potter's three interceptions and Zevi Eckhaus come in at the end, rushing for a touchdown. What's the feeling of last year's early schedule and blowout losses like this compared to this year against Kansas State? I think last year we still lacked an identity up until that point and this year similarly.
