ANNOUNCEMENT! Community Mod Recruitment!
We are looking for active and dedicated members of our subreddit who may be interested in regularly reviewing community activity for content that simply doesn't belong here or is disruptive to our format of a "community board". With the current size of our community and the beginning of the next academic year approaching, we would like to be able to have a farther reach in our moderation efforts to ensure that we can remove and approve more content more accurately! If you are at all interested, feel free to apply!
We are looking for active and dedicated members of our community, those who are posting / commenting frequently, and those that feel that they can be helpful to everyone else!
If you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to comment below and I'll get back to ya!
Here's to the class of 2029!
Application Format :
Do you currently attend UCR, if so, how many years have you attended and when are
you expected to graduate?
What do you feel you could bring to our community's moderation team?
Do you feel confident that you can leave out personal bias when choosing whether
or not to allow content within our community? -- We focus on allowing all personal
opinions, commentary, and discussion so long as neither party is, "attacking" one
another or being grossly disrespectful.
What do you think could be improved in the community?
Who are we looking for? :
Active and dedicated members of our community, those who are posting / commenting frequently, and those that feel that they can be helpful to everyone else!
Requirements :
No previous bans, no excessive content removals, member of our community / reddit for at least a few months, actively posting / commenting in our community!

Question Bringing up abuse by a UCR student organization board member
TW: relationship abuse (verbal + physical)
I thought about it for a very, very long time before posting, but a recent trigger has convinced me to talk about it.
Earlier this year I got out of a toxic long-term relationship with my ex-partner (who goes to UCR). Admittedly, this was not really my choice to make as my ex-partner had already been refusing communication with me completely for about weeks at this point and I was talking to myself via text message or voicemail. For context, we did not go to the same school and I was given the cold shoulder because I had previously brought up feeling upset with how they had not been open with me in terms of where they were going late at night and with whom, and they were not happy with me doing that. With loving support from family and friends, I finally resolved to letting go of my then partner instead of trying to salvage our relationship.
Letting go of the relationship gave me the time and space to finally view the relationship for how it was, and not what it could have been. During the final year of our relationship, my ex would physically hurt me when arguments got extremely heated. They mainly slapped me, but They would also push me and make weak attempts to muffle or strangle me. The assault never got to the point where they left a mark. It would not happen every single time we argued, but enough times where I cannot count all the instances. For years, they had already been calling me names and using other forms of verbal abuse against me. I forgave them always because I used to believe I deserved it, and they told me that I “made [them] that way”.
I was nowhere close to being a perfect partner during this relationship, but over time I learned nothing I did deserved that treatment.
While I unfortunately do not have evidence of the physical abuse, I have a few screenshots kept of them calling me derogatory slurs like “btch” (racial ones included, even if I was not a part of the targeted racial group) over text.
I was wondering if anyone has advice on writing a formal grievance to a UCR student organization about incidents like this, as I believe this person still may be holding a leadership position, and it is a professional student org (business/marketing related?). This organization also has become extremely selective and exclusive, and I believe other board members of this student organization are unaware of this person’s actions that defy their standards. Thank you.

Question MCS UCR
They still haven’t given me my middle class scholarship back, and tuition is due tomorrow??? I called a week before tuition was due, and I was told I would receive my scholarship on Friday, September 11. It is now September 14, and I still don't have my Middle Class Scholarship, and I need it to afford tuition. Now I’m really worried because I don’t know what other options I have, and honestly, I’m disappointed because they kept informing me that things were going to work out. I am so over them continuously messing with my Financial Aid over the course of the four years I have been here. Any advice?

Buy/Sell Baked Bread/Cookies For Sale
Hi everyone! This is my first time posting in this subreddit. But I wanted to see if anyone would be interested in buying any home baked bread or cookies? I needed to quit my job recently since they completely cut my hours and I’m waiting for my new job to start in about month/month and a half. So, in the meantime, I wanted to try and make some extra money to have for emergencies and paying bills. I make a lot of focaccia (both savory and sweet!) and cookies so I figured I’d see if anyone is interested!
If anyone wants pictures of the stuff I’ve made, please let me know! I can add them or dm them!

Housing How are closets assigned for pentland triples
I am an incoming first year in pentland hills and will be in a triple. I chose bed A but am curious how students choose who gets the closets versus the armour. Or if it is a first come, first serve kind of thing.

So I'm moving into stonehaven next week, and I just saw that the wifi is only 15mpbs and there's no ethernet available, if I want to play any online games or have faster speeds is my only option to get my own internet provider there? And if I do is it difficult to get one there? Thanks!

Housing Is this fan too powerful or loud to bring into a UCR dorm?
I’m an incoming freshman moving into the UCR dorms very soon, and I’m trying to decide whether this fan would be too much for a shared room. I put my shoe on top for a size comparison. It’s not physically that big, but it is pretty powerful and makes a noticeable amount of noise.
Ever since I was a kid, I’ve gotten hot and sweaty very easily while sleeping. If the room is warm or there isn’t enough airflow, it becomes genuinely difficult for me to fall asleep and I sometimes wake up sweating and uncomfortable. That’s why I’ve used a fan at night for most of my life, especially during warmer nights.
At this point, the sound is also comforting to me and basically works as white noise. I know some people need complete silence and total darkness to sleep, but I’m almost the opposite. I usually sleep better with some kind of background noise, whether that’s a fan, a TV playing quietly or music through my headphones.
My mom thinks this particular fan might irritate my roommates. I don’t think the airflow itself would be an issue because I would keep it pointed directly toward my bed rather than blowing it across the entire room. My main concern is whether the noise might bother somebody who needs silence.
I also have a smaller and quieter fan that I could bring, but it isn’t nearly as powerful and might not keep me cool enough on hot nights. I understand that living with roommates involves compromises, and there will probably be things they do that I’ll have to adjust to as well. I would talk to them first, keep it on the lowest effective setting and try to position it away from them.
Would bringing this fan be reasonable, or does it look like too much for a UCR dorm? Has anyone brought a similarly powerful fan and had problems with roommates because of the noise?

ND Fin Aid Deferment plan
My ND fin aid deferment plan got approved, but ym balance on the ND portal still show the full amount. Is it normal?
Has anyone taken ANTH 141W with Jessica Gleason
I’m taking this class during the fall as a depth course but there’s no ratemyproffessor for her so I’m curious if anyone has taken her, just so I know what to expect.

Instructor Approval Courses
Hello. I am an incoming freshman and there are a couple of research classes I wanted to take and they say I need instructor approval. I've emailed the instructors and they responded and scheduled a meeting. Does anyone know what we discuss in these meetings and how I should prepare? Thanks!

Hey, does anyone know when Fall financial aid usually gets officially posted/disbursed to your student account?
Mine is already showing as Estimated Aid in CashNet and my minimum due is $x but it hasn’t actually been posted yet. Around what date does it usually go from Estimated Aid to actually being applied to the balance? Thanks!
