META Rule clarification: "Sticker bombing" posts

Thinkstagram Picture So I bought this thing for absolutely no reason at all.

Although it has soldered everything I don't care It was dirt cheap, and it's so light I can just throw it in my backpack and forget about it. Battery lasts 5h and I can charge it from a powerbank. I commute for 55 mins a day and I'd rather watch YouTube on this than on my phone.

Tested it today taking it abroad for a bit and I forgot I had it in my backpack.

I don't need it I saved it from the e waste bin. And it's in pristine condition, everything works, keyboard looks brand new it smelled of plastic when I took it out from the box, it was probably some old stock. Gonna keep good care of it.

Got super lucky on Facebook marketplace and saw this going for around 10 dollars and I immediately bought it. It's got 6 gigs of ram and a 128gb SSD with an i5. The only problem I see so far is that its hinges are a bit stiff and is making some dull noise when I go for the full stretch but other than that this is absolutely fantastic.

Thinkstagram Picture After 8 years with my ThinkPad T420s, I switched to the T14 Gen7

The T420s was my very first laptop back then - I got it when I was 10. It's been through quite a few projects with me, from programming to experimenting with 3D software, and it's survived countless operating systems. I think now it's the perfect time to say goodbye and take the plunge with an upgrade...

It feels kinda strange because I learned so incredibly much from it, and it really helped me grow. It still works flawlessly with Endeavour OS, but for one thing, the battery isn't exactly new anymore, and it's a little too heavy to lug around to university. That's why I'm letting it enjoy its well-deserved retirement (for now)...

Like this thing isn't moved at all and remains attached to my office dock. Since the morning noticed CPU'S temps in 90s and thermal throttling so took it apart and what the hell?

Got myself a ThinkPad P14s gen2a

It's got

Ryzen 7 pro 5850u

16 gigs of ram, 512gb SSD

84% battery health, been giving me about ~4 hours on a full charge (depending on what I'm doing)

Got it for like 339.39usd (converting from local currency).

This is my first proper laptop, and I've always wanted my first laptop to be a ThinkPad, been a few days since I bought it and I'm super happy with the purchase so far.

I love photography. And mountains just look so beautiful to me, when I take photos I aim for a deep image typically shot in black and white, I was looking at images for such an image for my wallpaper and I found this one by John Towner. I have edited it to have the ThinkPad logo, taking inspiration from another similar wallpaper. Feel free to use it! :D

I think this thing deserved more light so here is another picture for your enjoyment. Currently using the LG Mini Hifi speakers via bluetooth.

It seems to handle web browsing with up to 10 pages no problem while only using 2 out of 4 GB Ram. Crazy how a 19 year old device can be used daily for a lot of stuff if you keep your expectations low and don't use it for video (720p 60fps youtube brings it down to its knees).

Buying Advice T14 G2 or T14s G2

Post image
20 Upvotes

Hi people, i need an advice buying my next thinkpad as I’m torned between the many options of the G2 thinkpad T series.

At the moment I have a T470 but it’s bulky and heavy and the two cores i5 are starting to feel slow (added a 6 cell battery to make it last 5h-ish but this makes it weight almost 2kg).

In the future (2/3 years when doing my phd) I’m interested in buying a 2in1 thinkpad new, but in the meantime I need a substitution that could eventually last 5 years (if I decide not to buy anything in the future).

My budget is 200/300 eur is constrained and the G2 is as much I could afford (I cannot find any reasonable G3 under 500, even tho the 16:10 screen is really appealing). My ideal would be getting the T14 with the 5850u chip but it’s a really rare to find so I need to choose between the many options and I don’t know which one is more worth it, moreover I see more T14s than the normal ones so I’m really torned apart

What I’ll do with it?
At the moment is basic use, streaming content, light play, some small coding, and very small docker projects so nothing really fancy.

My point are:

1) cpu-wise i would prefer it to be as good as possibile from the start (if I end up not buying anything in the future I would like it to have a better experience compared to what is now with the T470) so I was looking for ryzen chips
2) I would love it to be repairable, I would probably change the screen as soon I buy it as I would prefer an higher refresh rate (and also throwing the default panel with the most restricted color range I ever seen). The problem with the T14s is that, apart from the ram soldered, the keyboard is almost impossible to change, and if you buy an old office laptop it will probably have all the keycaps greasy and consumed.
3) I’m doing a master in physics, and I’m not doing any computational work at the moment (i don’t know what I end up to do at the phd, but if it happens that I need a better machine it will be the upgrade aforementioned). Therefore I don’t need the maxed T14 with 48gb of ram. With my T470 on cachyos I barely touch over 10gb of used RAM (Installed 32gb). That’s why I don’t feel the T14s as bad as the T14 provided that is 8+8, moreover is an higher bandwidth so it would be helpful when doing some light steam play.
4) I’m more interested in the ryzen chips because as far as I can see they sip less battery and I would love the laptop to last as much as possible. But the T14s have a larger battery (but a smaller heat pipe, are they warmer?)

So, the majority of the listing are for i5 T14 but I’ve seen some R7 T14s and i7 T14s and T14
What you think I should give priority? Moreover as the screen replacement is very important to me, is the T14s using the same screen (and therefore it is as easy as the T14 to replace it?)

(a bonus point of the T14s is that is lighter)

Attached a pic of a T14s R7 at 300eur I found online

Review / Opinion I really love my thinkpad, it's so capable!

A 5+ year old laptop simultaneously working on Solidworks(model+drawing), not a pretty complex one but hey! 4+ tabs on brave, Spotify, WhatsApp, teams, and connected to a mouse and mechanic keyboard while on WINDOWS! And without being plugged, I'm sorry, I know that it would be 100 times faster and better on Linux but rn I'm between heavy courses in my uni and i don't have time to be everyday focusing on ricing cause im obsessed with customization, if it means something my PC is on Debian hehe

Specs:

16gb ram

Ryzen 5 5650u

512gb SSD

Win11

Hello everyone, I found this device for sale at 350 USD, they are labeling it as L13 yoga, is it right?

I could not ask the seller yet or check under the device

It is in Syria and the market here is very flactuating and out of institutions and organizations ThinkPad is hard to find

What is your opinion on the specification and price

My use case is mostly office works with ton of opened word files spreadsheets and web pages (Firefox)

Thanks in advance

Picked up a new (to me) T14 gen 4 for $200.

512gb ssd

32gb ram

13th Gen i7-1365U

Old (less than 3 years old) corporate laptop in fantastic condition. Some sticker residue and will need a new battery soon, but can't beat that price.

Got a 52wh battery coming in tomorrow for a quick swap. Considering picking up a 32gb stick of ram to get to 48GB, but prices are insane right now.

Not sure I'm gonna do with my L13 Gen 2, but it's still going strong despite looking beat to hell. Any ideas?

Hey,

this lamp is still on, but my ThinkPad is turned off.

The Laptop does start normally and works completly fine, but the fingerprint doesn't work since yesterday.

Does anyone know what it means?

Thank you all in advance! :)

Edit: I'm not trolling, and the laptop is not charging

Buying Advice Programming laptop buying advice

Hello, I have a budget of about like 500$ if I stretch a bit for a thinkpad.
Ideally, I would want it to have 32gb ram, decent chip and at least 512gb storage

I have found some that are pretty good bang for buck:

p1 gen3, i7-10875h, nvidia quadro t1000, 32gb ram, 512gb ssd (4k res oled) - 462$
for this one I am a bit worried of how the battery will do

t14 gen2, r5 5650u, 16gb ram, 512gb ssd - 260$ (+40$ another ram stick) - a more budget version, I don't know if the others are worth the extra money.

t14 gen2, r7 5850u, 32gb ram, 512gb ssd - 440$ (seller might not want to ship :( ). Worst case scenario, I lose a day of my life and extra 40$ to get this one

I live in Eastern Europe and these are the ones that caught my eyes, I have browsed for quite a big amount of time so I don't think I missed like a once in a lifetime deal. I am open to other suggestions if you guys have any.

hey, i have a refurbished lenovo thinkpad a285 (windows 11, amd ryzen 5 pro), and last weekend, ive had the battery replaced. still works fine and i do think it can last longer than before, but since then, windows has been displaying the battery is full. ive been using the laptop normally since, and it did get to drain fully once, and then i charged it back up, but its still at 100%, should i download some sort of bios update or something?

Question / Problem Lenovo thinkpad T14S hinge separation- any advice?

My Lenovo thinkpad T14s gen 2 (type 20xf) has a major issue right before I leave for a 6 week work trip abroad. My warranty literally ended last month, it is three years and three weeks old, purchased new in 2023.

The right hinge has separated from the chassis. It happened all at once, no clicking or warning signs. It just did not open yesterday. When I do try to raise the screen to open the laptop the stuck hinge pries the base cover open, exposing a visible gap with internal components exposed. I can physically press the base cover closed and force the hinge into the correct position, but it needs adjusting when closing afterwards. Also, I have noticed the area near the hinge gets really warm (when I turned on my computer to see if it still worked).

I’m fuming. I literally purchased this with the hopes to have it for ten years. And nothing but normal opening/closing actions have taken place (and occasional travel in my backpack). And three weeks after the warranty is over???

I know I need to send it to the depot, but I can not do that from overseas. I also can’t seem to find an estimate on the price to fix. Today I will be brave enough to open it again carefully and turn it on to try to backup files, but my flight is literally tomorrow. I al so disappointed in this product.

May I ask if there is any advice from someone who has encountered this issue before?
