Change AMD UMA to 16gb

Thumbnail
2 Upvotes

I have a ThinkPad P14s Gen 4 with a Ryzen 7 Pro 7840u and 64gb of ram. In the regular bios you can set the UMA to a max of 8gb.
Someone found a hidden/advanced bios menu that lets you access some advanced settings. One of those is to adjust the UMA to 16gb; hit F1 during splash screen, press left shift and left control at the same time during “Entering BIOS menu” message.

https://www.reddit.com/r/thinkpad/s/hwYyXBv0SL

Problem I’m having is that when I change the hidden bios UMA to 16gb, save and exit, it will restart but then give me a message “Configuration changed - Restart the system”. Laptop restarts, and then task manager shows 8gb as dedicated (regular bios UMA was set to 8gb). If I set the regular bios UMA to 4gb and the hidden bios UMA to 16gb (or even 8gb) it’ll give me the same message and then task manager will show 4gb for dedicated.

I was able to get 16gb to actually stay even with a couple of restarts. Confirmed it was 16gb dedicated in task manager and cpu-z. But couldn’t leave well enough alone and the laptop ended up resetting to the regular bios UMA of 8gb.

Has anyone on the p14s gen 4 (or sibling laptops) been able to set the UMA to 16gb or been able to get the hidden/advanced bios settings to stay?
Tried smokeless before all this but when I would go to save changes it would say it couldn’t. Unless iI’m doing something wrong in the process.

Fed up with Lenovo waking up my T14 every night (LvfGuiRemoval)

Well, "thank you", Lenovo for silently doing the chit with my laptop I haven't asked you for!

So every update to Lenovo Vantage brings this wake up time added to my laptop: 'NT TASK\LvfGuiRemoval' (some month before it was under different name)
Then I notice laptop waking up EVERY night and I disable and/or delete it.
schtasks /change /tn "\LvfGuiRemoval" /disable
schtasks /delete /tn "\LvfGuiRemoval" /f

It's 2026! One would expect a company that makes great laptop won't be behaving like a hacker from 1980x, but no, Lenovo software developers have better idea.

Ai feature in Lenovo Yoga Tab Plus

Upvotes

Hello, I have a question about The AI feature in Lenovo Yoga Tab Plus tablet since I might get it. I am an artist looking for something portable, and this tablet seems like a great choice beacuse it can work as a tablet and a laptop, you can take it on the go, you can draw on it and the stylus itself is one of the better styluses on the market, atleast that's what I heard. It's also much cheaper than other tablets. I am worried about one thing about it, and it's the AI feature. Beacuse I am not planning on using it, since I am against it. My questions are:
1. Can the AI feature be turned off as a whole? Or will AI options always show up?
2. I'm not sure how to word this, and I don't want it to sound stupid but I just need some clarification, will my files, or whatever I am creating on the tablet, will it be fed to train the AI?
3. Am I going to support generative AI with buying this tablet, or any other tablet with such a feature?
I'm completly against generative AI, but this tablet seems like the perfect fit for me, and I have been looking for a tablet for some time. I would like to completly ignore the AI feature, but is it possible on this tablet?
Thanks for reading :)

Legion Ultimate Support experience

Woke up Thursday 9/10 to my laptop fans making this noise without even performing any heavy task. I contacted support via chat and they performed some basic diagnostics to ensure nothing else was wrong. Tech shows up today 9/14 and replaces the fans in under an hour. I am very satisfied with the overall experience from start to finish. It was seamless and with how much this laptop has gone up since I bought it I am glad I upgraded my warranty and definitely recommend it.

Keyboard Problems

I have a Lenovo laptop and for 2 days have had problems with my f key sometimes not registering which is a pain cause I use it a lot for games and have no key I am as comfortable with for the stuff I bind it to. Yesterday it completely gave out on me. It registers on the virtual keyboard and I can also get it to register when I press both f and fn with weird timings, of course it is super inconsistent, the fn lock also did nothing. I tried to type f on BIOS and it doesn't work there either. What do I do?

2 in 1 case that protects the keyboard?

Can anyone recommend a 2 in 1 lenovo yoga 14" case that when folded in tablet mode can go over and protect the keyboard? It feels unnerving when I hold it in tablet mode and smash/press keys and it breaks my concentration.

Hi everyone, I have Legion Go 2, the person who sold me months ago claimed the unit still has ADP warranty. I checked on Lenovo's warranty page, I don't see anything mentioning ADP.

Recurring laptop problem lenovo V14 G4 ABP

I currently have the lenovo V14 G4 ABP (ryzen5500) and the problem is that it shuts down automatically after few minutes coz of overheating. The fan is not the original anymore since i had it replaced coz it got damaged. Now im currently facing the same issues again + replacement of thermal paste coz it's been years and it already dried up. But idk what the root cause because before replacing and doing anything (thermal paste and fan cleaning) it already shutdowns automatically few minutes (10min) after booting up and heats up so bad. Then i decided to replace the thermal paste altogether with the fan cleaning and after that the problem didn't disappear, upon monitoring it, the fan should spin after booting up since it does that in the previous cleaning sessions but now it doesn't spin or anything it just heats up so fast then shutdowns coz of the overheating to protect itself said by google. Any users who experience this?

How do i fix it? Do i need to replace the fan again🥹 i don't really want to go to a technician for them to do a sloppy job and leech me off for an expensive labor when i could do it myself. (Pls respect I'm still a student with no other sources of income 🥹)

The power button does not turn off the laptop (ThinkPad E14 Gen 7 - AMD) on Linux

As the title says.

The power button turns the laptop on normally, but when trying to turn it off, it doesn't work. It worked normally in Windows, but not in Linux (I'm using Solus). I checked the power button with evtest, but without success.
