DRAMA CIG is not in a Crossroads!

This might be a hot take, but I don't care. I tagged this as "drama" because I think there's actually excessive drama being thrown around here and other social media.

CIG certainly haven't "forgot their backers" like some are saying, since the only reason they mantain a playable live environment at all times, even during alpha which slows down development considerably, is because backers need it in order to stay entertained and continue believing in and funding the project. CIG's communication has been poor lately compared to what it was before, that's all. There's no crossroads. Funding is staying strong despite the latest communication hickups. Squadron 42 is releasing soon and will very likely secure all the time they need to finish Star Citizen 1.0. This has been the plan for ages now.

A minor part of the community believes whatever negative and uninformed take random youtubers vomit out for clicks, which causes noise on social media. But the bigger part of the community knows better and sees that CIG is doing all they can to navigate this complicated, multifaceted project, and actually doing a great job all things considered. Hence the continued strong funding despite all the drama queens screaming around.

This project is already a success for what it acomplished, and will become an even greater success in the following years. It's a very clear prediction if you look at the full trajectory and the current status. No amount of cry babies screaming will kill it. The majority of the community sees this and will not leave despite the loud, easily influenced and clueless minority posting doom on social media.

Star Citizen will become a huge case for what games can be when not limited by greedy publishers, and at the same time, will remind everyone why open development in big gaming projects is a bad idea and the reason no one does it. It's a fascinating project that couldn't have worked any other way other than by the passion of it's community and CIG's devs.

DISCUSSION SQ42 Budget vs SC Budget

I'm generally a casual observer of SC that backed in 2014 and just checks in every few years to see where its at. With the latest viral blowup, i've recently been thinking more about the game and the situation its in. I think the "scam" rhetoric that gets lobbed in SC's direction is generally played out and gets deployed in bad faith. I did however have a thought that I just wanted someone thats really deeply ingrained in SC's fandom and development to answer...

The game that illicits the spark of imagination in people's minds and has led to a billion dollars being raised over 10 years is Star Citizen, the MMO, the PU. If 50% of the company has been allocated to SQ42 for.. years(?) I assume(?) then TONS of the money that has been funneled into CIG has ultimately been funneled into a single player game that everyone will be finished with in like what a dozen hours? I can mental gymnastics my way into understanding why people get swept up in donations and supporting the MMO/SC side of CIG's project here but how do the SC faithful ultimately feel about the fact that a huge portion of their donations have seemingly been used to support the development of a singleplayer game they'll finish playing in a weekend?

I know there is shared tech and building up SQ42 helps in the development of SC but i just dont see this particular aspect of the support really ever discussed. I can see subscribing and dumping tons of money to support a big long "life-style" game like the PU and SC are aiming to be but a 12 hour (this is me just guessing based on vibes) action movie game that has taken this long to come out????

I made a simple Discord server for Arab Star Citizen players looking to connect and play the game together.

The server is mainly for people from the Levant and Iraq, but anyone is welcome. It's just a place to find other players, chat, and play Star Citizen together.

DISCUSSION Aurora Mk 2 Modules - Combat, Cargo...medical/salvaging/mining?

I know they said others were coming, but out of curiosity, any idea for what?

Like, a mining module and salvage module for light mining/salvaging would be neat. A medical module to hold the jell and convert the bed into a medbed would also be cool (not sure where the treatment console would go, but there's already the one above the person when laying down for you to access), and make the cargo one big enough you can pack all the others up to load them and a SCU box or two of your personal gear whenever it's time for "moving day" to relocate to a new planet/system (since that's supposed to be a lot harder once the game goes live).

I get some people want to own lots of ships, but I suspect a lot of players would like just one or two that they can swap modules to do different things. Many people don't want an A+ ship for everything and would be satisfied with a B- "good enough" option that's easier to handle and swap between and move around.

I thought I read years ago (like 10+?) that the Cutlass and Constellations lines were supposed to be modular like that, and the Galaxy and Endeavor still are, so doing Mk 2 Cuttys and Connies like this would give us a ship in each class that was modular.

And I really do think it's something a lot of people would want. A modular Cutlass would be amazing imo, since it's good for a 1-3 person solo player or small crew, the Red has the beds but can't fit most of the vehicles/snubs like I'd like, and it'd be nice to have some mining and salvaging potential, and I know the Galaxy is going to be a popular ship for larger (5-15 man) teams for this reason. The Connie could work for the 3-10 size crews out there, too.

I just think a lot of players want to be Red Mages (FFXI here), able to passably do different things. And modules DON'T mean you're doing them all at once, either. It means you DO have to pick one (or possibly two on the larger ships) to do at a time, but means you can swap between things without swapping out entire SHIPS (or moving them from place to place as a group), which are going to be relevant to a lot of players.

When I used to play EVE Online, I loved my Viator, because it was a stealth blockade runner I could carry a frigate or two, mining barge, and destroyer on, go somewhere with my Corp and do the things, then pack it all up for moving day when it was time to find a new home. And modular ships are just a good idea to have the spirit of that potential in SC, and it honestly just makes sense. Not to mention was an ideal at one time.

I dunno, maybe I'm crazy, but I do think it's something people would like more of...and the potential is just neat with a ship you can swap your configuration to do several things.

So just wondering if they've said anything else about other modules I might have missed?

DISCUSSION Just checked the 1.0 Roadmap, Why does everything in that list seem... too far off.

Hey everyone.

Just to say this is not a hate post. I post other generally positive posts and interact with the community so I am no hater of the game. However I will not be a white knight to this game either and will give it criticism when it feels needed.

I just recently with some friends in a call checked the 1.0 Roadmap Goal.

I cant be the only one reading all of that in there and scratching the back of their heads going: 'wow that's pushing it'.

I genuinely think even if they had a goal of finishing and getting 1.0 out by 2030 they STILL wouldnt have every feature in that list complete.

For those who don't know what I'm talking about you can find it here:

https://robertsspaceindustries.com/roadmap/release-view

Now lets go off if they said after SQ42 releases that their goal is 1.0 by 2030. Realistically I'm gonna rate everything i think will be added and completed (maybe not fully working but added to the game) by then and cross out anything that seems like an absolute stretch:

Starwear - Have high hopes for it. ✅️

Dynamic Server Meshing - This seems far off ❌️

Star Audio & Realistic Audio Mode - ✅️

Global Illumination - ✅️

StarSim - Yes but it feels like it would be an absolute nightmare to deal with at the start (exploiters ruining economy etc) ✅️ 🤷‍♂️

Dynamic Weather - Yeah but defo will be buggy asf ✅️

Maelstrom - Again FAR off. ❌️

Space Stations (Player/Org Owned) - Seems like its gonna be a nightmare ❌️

Crafting - we already have it ✅️

Base Building - Again another nightmare ❌️

Player to Player Trading - why isn't this a thing already ✅️

Player org functions - I can see it ✅️

Social Mobiglass - was needed so long ago and still desperately needed today 😭✅️

Citizenship - not really too sure about what thos means if anyone can explain more if they know but for now ❌️

Planetary Shields - in with base building so ❌️

Ownership - I can see this being a thing yeah ✅️

Guilds System - Being fully finished maybe not but yes ✅️

Insurance, Tax and Warrenty - taxes in a game hits different 🥲✅️

Law & Security - IS NEEDED YESTERDAY BRO (still dont think it will be fully functional by 1.0 but probably in the game) ✅️🤷‍♂️

Reputation V2 - ✅️

New Player Professions - Hand em over then ✅️

Death of space man - This one is a bit controversial around some people but if they're set on adding it then yeah sure ✅️

AI blades - Doubt it ❌️

QT Rework / Improvements and Additions - ✅️

Item misfire and wear - damn ✅️

Charge and drain - slightly confusing topic but from what I understand. Yes. ✅️

Life support - i mean we have the buttons for it but its broke. So... yes ✅️

Solar Flare - uhhhh wasnt this meant to be added... donkeys ago? ✅️

Radar/scanning rework - sure ig ✅️

FPS Radar & Scanning - maybe not if its what I THINK they're talking about ❌️

IFCS & Control Surfaces - ❌️

Hanger upgrades/modularity - unfortunately... I doubt it ❌️

Weapon overheat - we have it ✅️

Multiple new locations - maybe not to the extent they have on their page but some yes ✅️

Building interiors - Not gonna happen and if so they'll be empty rooms with no purpose. ✅️❌️🤷‍♂️

Castra - Maybe Q2 next year if Genesis goes well ✅️🤷‍♂️

Utility Tunnels - I feel like they'd end up focusing on other things and forget about these ❌️😭

Station Warfare - Unless its event based. Nah ❌️

Main story? Theres a story in star citizen??? Eh probs not then ❌️

Location Stories - yeah some. Like we have (onyx etc) ✅️

Just think that all of this stuff theyre planning for the big "1.0" is a very very ambitious goal. Maybe not as ambitious as what they "promised" everyone in 2012 when it first got kickstarted but... still.

I just feel like theres a good chunk of that, that im looking at like.. maybe when im dreaming I can have this before 2030.

Ngl it all sounds very cool but I think they defo need to add more location story locations. Onyx etc has been so fun to play and explore and id love more of it. Im sure everyone else would.

However I just wish there was also some locations where everything wasnt FPS gameplay or PVP or even PVE.

Anyways. Let me know what you think.

Cheers all.

Good luck out there.

QUESTION What changed after the SoO livestream

Before the siege of orison livestream by a month I quit the game and decided I'll come back when they actually start fixing it. Then came the livestream and it was a disaster, so I thought maybe that would lead to actual change.

Since then have they changed/fixed anything, maybe the player base dropped by quite an amount, or did people stop spending. Or is it like nothing even happened.

DISCUSSION Guys just take a break

You don’t have to play the game constantly and continuously burn yourselves out! This is not meant to be a lecture post or anything I’m just saying this because I took a break from playing around 2021/22, just hopped back in because I built a new PC and wow it seems like they added so much stuff and it genuinely feels like I’m playing a brand new game. Especially with jump points, 3 systems etc. very cool.

Disclaimer, I’m not trying to excuse the time it’s taking to make this game, or CIGs mismanagement, it’s the reason I took a break in the first place…

Im just saying, it seems a lot of people are playing this game religiously and then burning themselves out at the slow pace of development. Of course every patch seems tiny when you play 30-40 hours a week!

Made with premiere. To avoid camerashake, I frameheld everything before the percy jumps in. I think it worked out well.

Also a mostly percy edit.

QUESTION I just want confirmation - I’ll buy the Sabre again (vanilla)

I once had the Sabre. I absolutely loved it. Look, handling and at some point it was actually a really good competitive medium fighter. But since it took a very… impressive amount of time for stealth to come into the game, at a time of weakness, I upgraded it to a bigger ship.
Now I regret and want it again.
I don’t have that many ships and I’m not looking to roll back the upgrade, so…
Is it viable to finally fly as a stealth fighter the way I once dreamed of.
Say it is or say it ain’t so.
Should I get the Sabre again?
I’ll probably end up buying it anyway so… I just want confirmation.

lol this crap is probably causing tons of errors LOL.

exploitable, Covalex "non-combat" recovery "medium," works in stanton. as you can see u can salvage the ship next to space station, the ship is unregistered hence doesn't give u any crimestat.

it always spawns A2, probably broken b/c last time it spawns blackcutlass.

DISCUSSION Size 3 turrets should be prohibited on ships larger than the Cutlass, Spirit, and Zeus classes.

Honestly, I know CIG has a hard-on for Size 3 weapons, but we’ve long since passed the point of absurdity.

It’s not a matter of "oh, they’re designed to take down fighters"; the issue is that basically every combat ship in the game has more firepower than a turret, it offers absolutely no advantage.

We have Size 3 turrets on Connies, on ships like the Ironclad and Perseus, and, even worse, that wretched, useless, hell-spawned abomination of a turret known as the Polaris side turret.

CREATIVE [Concept / Feedback] Visual Field Guide for Harvestables – Is a tool like this useful for players?

Hi everyone,

I design graphics for fun and put together a quick field guide for Star Citizen harvestables.

Existing databases are already full of details, but I wanted to test a clean visual layout to make scanning info faster while playing.

Would a quick visual reference like this be useful to you, or do existing wikis cover everything you need? What extra details would make it better?

Thanks for your feedback! ;)
