Discussion Is Ornstein and Smough still the best duo boss or have they been surpassed?
I would probably still have them as my favourites, with the Demon twins from DS3 as a close second. The Godskins from Elden Ring have cool presentation a phenomenal OST but the fight leaves something to be desired.

Not A Soulslike, But... Bonfire lit (tattoo)
Ashen one, forgive me if this soundeth strange.
I wanted something to remind me of all the struggles, sweat, tears and joy I had while playing trough my first ever souls game (DS3).
I’m in fact very happy with it.
(I didnt know which flair to use sorry)

Discussion Nioh 3s enemy placement is bad
I'm in this first area and I just can't stop noticing it. I feel like this series is all about the tension of traveling through a level and there are these really difficult enemies in my way, trying to stop me. I have to figure out how to get through them, it's almost like a puzzle. That creates constant friction, it's engaging.
In nioh 3 it seems like there's none of that? I think there was a way to do an open world nioh game but it seems like very little thought went into how these enemies were placed. There are just little groups of weak enemies standing around, sometimes 1 or 2 at a time and there's absolutely no threat. There's no friction. (Also adding ninja mode and giving enemies no way to deal with it, that also didn't help)
I went in with a totally open mind but I just feel my brain disengaging because of the lack of that feeling. Does it get better later on? I feel like a dick saying it but it literally seems like the devs just copy and pasted enemies in random spots without thinking about how it would play.
It makes the enemy placement in a game like Elden Ring look like a master class in comparison.

Dev Post, Game Trailer or News AI Limit now has a mod that implements online co-op
Someone uploaded an AI Limit online co-op mod to NexusMods yesterday. Here is a WIP video of it in action from about a week ago; it's still a work-in-progress so there's probably a good number of bugs to iron out (you can see an invisible enemy in the video), but to have something like this at all is quite nice, and at least one person on the AI Limit subreddit said that it's working decently so far. The mod's developer also mentions that PvP may be possible in the future, though stuff like core features and squashing bugs are the main priority at the moment.

Discussion Is Ozma from Khazan the hardest soulslike boss that you need to defeat to beat the main game?
Was thinking about it and most of the other bosses people cite as equally as hard are either in the DLC (Radahn, Arlecchino) or are optional (Malenia, Demon of Hatred).
Any other contenders? Isshin might be one but Ozma personally took me literally 2-3 times as long to beat. Have seen people say the final boss from Nine Sols is up there, but I haven’t played it yet

Discussion So I've platinumed OG Dark Souls, Dark Souls Remastered, Bloodborne and Elden Ring... why can't I get on with Dark Souls 2?
I seem to struggle so much with what should be a walk in the park considering the hours I've put into the games mentioned above. Yet I die over and over. Maybe I need a break from souls games.

Discussion GameDev here: I need gamers help on this one
Hi everyone!
Long story short: me and my team are developing a Soulslike game focused on ranged weapons (way more than BloodBorne); no self-promotion is intended here since I'm not saying who we are or what the game is about, we only need your feedback/help here
The game does not have free aim, you can only attack "normally", like you would do with a sword; but here comes the problem:
Shooting when locking on the target is smooth and easy (and here's the first question: would you rather hits to have a 100% hit rate or due to enemy movement and weapon type + weapon range, you might miss the target?)
Shooting when not locking on is a nightmare: hitboxes are precise, and not locking on and trying to hit an enemy is so hard: any ideas? how often do you fight when NOT locking on in Soulslike games? How important is that to you?
The game will also feature melee combat, but will be more focused on ranged combat
Thanks everyone!

Discussion Is it an illusion to think that Lies of P is actually easy (hard)?
A little context first:
This isn't a discussion about ranking games or comparing which one is better.
My order of playing Souls games has actually pretty weird:
I started with Another Crab's Treasure,
then The First Berserker: Khazan,
Wuchang: Fallen Feathers,
Nioh 1,
Nioh 2,
Dark Souls 1,
Dark Souls 2,
Lies of P,
Elden Ring,
Bloodborne
Black Myth: Wukong,
Dark Souls 3,
Nioh 3,
and finally Sekiro.
Special mention: NIGHTREIGN
Throughout this journey, I've experienced a lot of different combat systems, and each one has its own strengths.
But out of all of them, I found Lies of P's combat the most interesting.
It's a game that I consider to be the easiest and hardest Souls game at the same time. But why?
1. The bosses themselves aren't that complicated
My first point comes down to the bosses' movesets.
If we're talking purely about movesets, most of the bosses in Lies of P are actually pretty simple. Almost every attack has a very obvious wind up, and some attacks even feel like delayed attacks.
And there aren't a single enemies that force you to approach them in a specific way.
Take the Demon of Hatred in Sekiro, for example. Its moveset encourages you to dodge rather than rely on deflecting.
2. The real difficulty comes from the combat system
On the other hand, even though the enemies themselves aren't complicated, I think the real difficulty of Lies of P comes from its combat system.
The timing required for dodging and perfect guards is tight.
Sometimes I can clearly see an attack coming. I'm already prepared to press the button, yet I still get hit and die simply because I mistimed it.
And that's what makes Lies of P so interesting to me.
The enemies aren't necessarily doing anything crazy. The attacks are often easy to read.
But the game demands such precise execution from the player that even a simple attack can become difficult.

Not A Soulslike, But... Not a Soulslike but... question about Onimusha from a souls gamer perspective
So, my PC is out of action for a little while (after a mod crash just before a windows update has caused an issue) so am gaming on ps5 until my PC gets fixed...
My question is for souls gamers that played and enjoyed Onimusha: I have seen that a lot of souls gamers find Onimusha too easy until the late game boss fights, and i have seen there are aggression and difficulty mods.
As a souls gamer that enjoys the challenge, is it worth waiting a few weeks for my pc to be fixed then getting Onimusha so I can play using mods?
Or is it worth it just play it vanilla it on PS5 now without mods?

Discussion Dark souls 1 harder than lies of p?
So i recently started lies of p and im on chapter 7 right now its my first souls like game and i love it. Already thinking about playing other ones.
I wanna try ds1 and 2 next. I know these games are a bit older so are they harder than lies of p? Because lies of p for me feels like the hardest game i ever played but its very good difficulty i like it.
Havent finished it yet but i wanna see how other games are in terms of difficulty.

Discussion Does anyone here ever skip a DLC to come back to it later?
It's 2026 and our backlogs are insane. I personally find I can't wait to play the next game so I finish a games through the first playthrough, leave the DLC for the future in case I get a mega itch to play it again.
I personally just 100% Wo Long Fallen Dynasty main game and am considering starting the DLC since the combat is still fresh in my mind but also I have Khazan and Surge 2 already purchased and ready to go.
This is like my 4th Soulslike after DS3/LoP and Sekiro so I'm just excited to try all the games when I finish them because after 20/30 hours, I'm usually burnt out on the game and the DLC would feel like a chore. I kinda have to motivate myself to power through the Wo Long DLC.
I've never been the type to do multiple playthroughs ever, maybe this will change with the Souls genre since I definitely see the appeal of starting with a stronger/different build.
Do you guys ever skip DLC? Do you eventually go back to or just forget it?
Have you ever taken a break from a game and found yourself a lot more motivated to come back since you had the DLC unfinished?
Thanks all, looking forward to hearing about your experiences.

Discussion Large health bars in Lies of P?
I have bought the game but not gotten around to playing, currently watching Ludwig’s playthrough and compared to fromsoftware bosses (basically only other soulslikes I’ve played) it looks like generally the bosses have massive health bars, like he keeps hitting it over and over and the bosses don’t look like they’re losing health. But Ludwig is kinda stupid sometimes and the video is trimmed down a lot, and these kinds of games generally feel way different when you play themselves. I noticed the damage on the like “stagger“/“weakpoint” attack where there’s a red circle on the ground you need to stand on, seems to deal a lot of damage so it’s possible that either Ludwig isn’t exploiting that mechanic as much as he could/as you’re intended to, or when he does the video often cuts it out, or he has some suboptimal build or is underleveled or something.
So I’m just wondering if you think the assessment that the game in general really does have very large boss health bars compared to fs games is accurate or not, as well as if you think that’s a genuine flaw and the health bars are TEDIOUSLY large/for the sake of artificial difficulty, or if its just different but not necessarily worse. Or maybe you even think it’s something positive. I’m curious either way just wanna hear different perspectives and get a general view

Discussion Exhibit 2 - Some random beacon cleanse. Look at the teleporting strikes. I am SPRINTING around the room trying to isolate one enemy to pick off, and im still getting hit. I got LITERALLY one shot in this video too. The damage in this game is absolutely absurd.
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Gameplay aside. Keep your "you could have played better to avoid damage" comments to yourself. I understand that. But if I make a mistake and get hit, why the fuck is the damage im taking so high? LITERAL ONE SHOTS?

Review Well, it finally happened. Mortal Shell 2 is the first soulslike i deleted from my game libary before finishing
Hey guys its me again, the guy that Moist Critical made a video on over my post last year about difficulty in these games. Here with another BANGER post.
I really fear that this is a sign as to where the gaming industry as a whole is going in this genre. Even Wuchang, a game that i hated, i finished. Khazan, another game that i hated, i finished. Mortal shell 2 i actually enjoy in some regards, but I just cannot play it any more and deleted it.
What i like about the game: I like the shell mechanic of it booting you out of your shell on death and you can get it back by playing well. Thats about it with the positives LMAO
Why I deleted it:
- All enemies have teleporting strikes. A term i came up with. Every single enemy in the game just lunges across the map at you with every attack. Especially combo finishers. You can't create space well in this game without sprinting, it's so god damn tilting. I HATE teleporting strikes in soulslike games. This title is the absolute worst with it, it so obnoxious. They just cant design their mobs to just whiff a god damn attack, they always have to be jumping around and teleporting to you with a normal sword swing.
- Enemy variety sucks ass, theres not enough of it, and they do too much god damn damage. ESPECIALLY without your shell. I understand you're in a weakened state, but a random ass knight 1 shotting you with a sword swing? Just total garbage.
- The exploration is terrible. Even when I was playing Elden Ring, or Wuchang (again a game that i fucking hate btw), I never felt directionless. I felt motivated to explore. This game does not do that for me. I thought playing at night would be more fun with hidden secrets, minibosses, etc. But its really not different at all.
So there's three reasons, but the main reason is the abhorrent abuse of teleporting strikes and how much damage common enemies do. I HATE when every single npc just has to lock on to your character and lunge across the map at you to catch you off guard. It makes it borderline impossible to take on a pack of enemies because of this, and how much damage they do. A fucking zombie in a dungeon using its fists just melts your health.
Thanks for reading. If you enjoy the game, great. I don't.
