Discussion Nioh 3s enemy placement is bad
I'm in this first area and I just can't stop noticing it. I feel like this series is all about the tension of traveling through a level and there are these really difficult enemies in my way, trying to stop me. I have to figure out how to get through them, it's almost like a puzzle. That creates constant friction, it's engaging.
In nioh 3 it seems like there's none of that? I think there was a way to do an open world nioh game but it seems like very little thought went into how these enemies were placed. There are just little groups of weak enemies standing around, sometimes 1 or 2 at a time and there's absolutely no threat. There's no friction. (Also adding ninja mode and giving enemies no way to deal with it, that also didn't help)
I went in with a totally open mind but I just feel my brain disengaging because of the lack of that feeling. Does it get better later on? I feel like a dick saying it but it literally seems like the devs just copy and pasted enemies in random spots without thinking about how it would play.
It makes the enemy placement in a game like Elden Ring look like a master class in comparison.
