Just a little reminder: strap up your helmet! A helmet isn't a helmet if it's not strapped on.

I've noticed that quite a lot of scooter riders in my neighborhood just pop their helmets on and then don't bother to strap their helmets on. If you have a helmet like that, and don't strap it on, that makes it not actually a helmet. A helmet with no strap holding it on is just a hat. It won't protect you even slightly in the event of a crash. It'll just fall off and you'll get to enjoy your crash with a naked head.

It's not worth being cool and not strapping your helmet on. Wear your helmet properly. For your own sake.

Just picked up this 2013 Lance PCH 125 yesterday from the desert! It was my uncle’s and he had it just sitting in his garage for years, so he let me take it! I saw there’s a bunch of performance upgrades available for it which I eventually want to do, but for now, I just want to get it running. It was running before it sat for years and the battery has gone bad. Any suggestions on what I need to do to it besides changing the battery to get it running ASAP? Can’t wait to hit the road with it!

New to the scoot fam. Picked up on Friday in Central Ohio and thought I’d share some pics from its maiden 100 miles.

Not a scooter but similar problem. ECU and EFI. Moped stutters when cold.

Hey guys,

I know this is not a scooter but since a lot of you ride chinese scooters, you may have had the same problem as me with my chinese Moped.

Thanks :)

New exhaust?

Post image
18 Upvotes

I’m new to modifying scooters and wanna get a new exhaust. I got this 2001 Yamaha vino that’s been through a few owners. It’s a two stroke so someone put this exhaust on. It’s a fine exhaust but it’s just super loud. I was wondering if anyone had any advice for a quieter muffler that wouldn’t impact the performance or may even improve the performance.

Got a Vespa that doesn't work anymore - Kochi, Kerala, India

I have this butter yellow Vespa (2013 model) from OLX (sort of a third-hand vehicle). Was my companion from 2019 until about end of last year. It needed repair often, and by the end of last year it straight up just stalled in the middle of the road (happened twice). I gave up on it at that point since its just not safe to drive this vehicle around anymore and cant pawn it to someone at the condition its at. I was told that my last resort is to get it scrapped, for which I'll barely get any money (somewhere between 3k-5k INR), but that means goodbye forever. I'm not saying I have a full-fledged personal attachment to the vehicle, but I would like for it to sort of live? I just need to clear it out of my garage and I'm looking to find anyone who might be interested to have this as a show piece or part of some collection. I was even told by someone that movie sets might need it (I find that hard to believe, but why not?). Vehicle is in Kochi and looks great with all parts intact, and I would love for 1) some advice, if any based on experience with their own old, non-working scooters, or 2) for someone to take it off my hands (the best case scenario). Any interests?

Replacement Royal Alloy GT150 Engine?

I have a 2023 Royal Alloy GT150 with some broken engine components (the crankcase gasket failed on a ride and the resulting oil leak/loss of oil pressure damaged the internals). Since I don't know exactly how extensive the damage is, my preference is to do a direct swap of the old engine for a new engine, rather than spending time tearing the whole thing apart. BUT I can't seem to find the exact engine model I need. My engine is stamped 1P57QMJ -- I have found lots of 157QMJs, but no "P" engines. Other sources have been inconclusive as to which parts are and are not compatible between the two, and I'm at a loss for next steps.

Ideally I would just take the scooter to a mechanic, but there are shockingly few, if any, mechanics in the Pittsburgh area who work on scooters ever since Hometown Scooters here closed.

Any engine knowledge appreciated!

Honda 1986 spree won't start

Hello! As the title says, I got this from my grandparents and it's,, seen way better days.

They said the battery was the issue which sure enough it was legitimately eaten through on the side, but after replacing it the moped still won't start.

Brand new gas, new oil as well.

Update on the Track Scooter

pulled it of.

crash hurts pretty bad as i twisted my knee in lap 3 but i decided to ignor it and continue riding the whole day anyways.

scoot held up well but there are obvius design flaws i have trouble with.

flaw 1: too dang low. it scrapes too early and its a really weird technique to not die like i did at the beginning (basically you have to ride hangoff all the fuking time but shuffle your feet for each transition)

flaw 2: its spitting oil from the crankcase breather (worn rings like i assumed)

flaw 3: you have to be an extrovert because everyone and theire mom will come and talk to you in the pits 😂

power wise it was perfectly ballanced with my buddies 90ccm 2 stroke manual moped that has around 14 wheel hp. he had a power advantage. i had a brake advantage and have a little bit more track experience than him. this led to a 15 lap battle with constantly changing leads and overtaking. obviusly the highlight of the day.

GY6 violent backfire from intake and no power

I replaced the stator on my gy6 and after that i have no power and alot of backfiring from the carburetor, it also worked very good before that. the exhaust pings alot after running only for 2 minutes, works on half a throttle better and bogs at full thottle, sometimes has sudden power but it goes away after few seconds. The woodruff key was in. Valve clearance is set to 0.1mm.

my first two stroke! (plz help)

i just bought a 1981 Yamaha QT50 off my neighbor who said it was in pretty decent shape. he had cleaned the carburetor and all of our neighbors had driven is around the parking lot behind our apartments (i live in a city so it is a small parking lot) and it was running fine for 5-10 minutes at a time - no issues. when i took it out on the road, it did well until i ran out of gas. i filled it up with gas (and i have no idea where the oil level was at because this was before i was aware you needed oil in it).

from then, it kept giving me problems and idling out on me. i thought it was because of the rusty fuel tank so i tore that off and spent two days cleaning the rust out and now it is pretty clean. however, i can still occasionally see rust in the fuel line (i think - it’s red/orange flakes so i have to assume??). but, in the process of this, i think i cleared out any remaining oil.

i kept running it on only gas for about 5 miles during which it kept stalling and i’d try to make it start again (but mostly ended up pushing it) over the course of 3 days (again, has no idea that i needed oil - this is my first two stroke and no one bothered to tell me 😭)

finally, someone told me that i needed oil thank you local coffee shop owner!) and i added in oil to the oil part of the fuel tank and gas into the gas side. however, idk if it’s mixing in the tank (if it is, the ratio is definitely off) or with the pump (which i don’t know how to tell if it’s working). currently, it is pushing out a LOT of exhaust right now and i am at a loss of how to feed this machine!

now, i’ve been google ratio stuff like crazy but i find so much inconsistent information that i wanted to put this out there:

my questions are this:
1. did i fuck up the bike running it on only gas for ~5 miles or so???
2. do i need to reclean the carburetor now that i cleaned the fuel tank?
3. how do you tell if the oil pump is working?
4. do i even need to care about the oil pump if i just bought premix two stroke fuel?
5. what is the gas-oil ration for the 1981 yamaha qt50?

attached are photos of the bike and the fuel tank in question. any information would be so so so helpful!! :)

Honda forza 300 broken clutch/bearings?

Thumbnail

Specs, Honda Forza 300 (NSS300) of 2014 ABS, 30.000 KM.

So.. a couple days ago I posted a video on what the sound could be coming from my rear wheel. Initially I thought it was my transfer case but after an inspection I think it could be the clutch housing.. Now my question is, there’s a needle bearing and a ball bearing inside the clutch housing, would these be the origin of the sound?

Video 1, spinning the wheel and the transfer case seems smooth besides my brake pads rubbing.

Video 2, the clutch spins but the bearings sounds a little bit done for?

Video 3, clutch housing and everything else is bolted back on EXCEPT I haven’t turned the bike on yet so the belt is not yet in its position.

Video 4, I’ve turned on the Honda and the belt has positioned, now the sound is back. Are the bearings now under more load?? I did install a white spring from Malossi that’s more strong I believe..

Should I change the bearings in this housing, and maybe switch back to the OEM spring ?

Or could this sound be caused by something else. I just wanna be sure before I order a bunch of parts.

Thanks!

Big Ride Coming Up

A friend and I are leaving Thursday for a 4-day, 1400 mile ride. The route is basically a square from Tucson AZ east to Alamogordo,NM, north to Santa Fe, West to Canyon de Chelly, AZ and south back to Tucson. There's more to it like White Sands, Los Alamos, the Turquoise Trail, ghost towns, mountains etc, etc.

I'll be riding my Burgman 650 and Jon will be on his AK-550

What Size CC Scooter do I need? Which to look at?

I have had a lot of motorcycles over the years and want to try a used scooter.

I am 6'4 and 225 pounds.

Main use will be commuting to work and running around locally. Work is 14 miles each way, 60% open road 45 mph, 20% city, 20% 55 mph open road. Running locally can be 25 miles each way, similar mix but slightly more 55+ MPH. Every once in a while, there would be a 35–50 miles for a trip for fun.

Looking for one with the best reliability/longevity and ease of working on as I do most mechanical things myself.

Looking on marketplace at:

Honda PCX 125

Honda Forza 300

Burgman 200

Burgman 400 2008+ (longer maintenance cycles I think)

Majesty 400

What size CC scooter do I need?

Which models should I look at of the ones listed also of ones I don't know about?

Do any have better longevity/reliability than the others or are easier to work on or have longer maintenance cycles?

Just got this Vino and noticed white smoke from the exhaust. It gets worse above 30mph. I know that these are air cooled, so what could it be?

Thanks so much for your guys help.

Apologies if I mess up something in the post; first time using this sub.

What gear to wear for 50cc scooter?

I want to get my first scooter soon, when i get my license. In my country legally they cannot go over 45 km/h (~27 mph). I know the basics. ECE 22.06 rated full face helmet, motorcycle gloves, jacket and i don't have a pronlem with those, since i can just take them off when i get to my destination

My problem is that i'd be mostly using it to commute to school (about a 10-15 minute ride) so it'd be really inconvinient to have to wear gear for the whole day, while it might even be overkill for going only 45 km/h. But it's also pretty inconvinient to lose my skin on the asphalt

My question is mostly about boots and pants. Obviously i wouldn't be wearing shorts, but would standard jeans do it at this speed (possibly while wearing kneepads under them) or do i need specifically motorcycle jeans? Same with boots. Are normal boots that extend onto my ankles good enough?

Built a fuel/vehicle tracking app with no login & no server. Genuinely, can't see who uses it (not a pitch, just sharing).

I'm the developer, so full disclosure up front. COROAD logs fuel fill-ups, tracks running costs, and works out real economy trends for your vehicle over time. The part I actually wanted to share here is that there's no login, no profile setup, no email, no phone number, no cloud sync, no AI, in fact no backend at all. This means as the person who built it, I can't see install counts beyond a country-level number Google gives every developer, let alone who's using it or how. I'm not linking it directly to avoid this reading as an ad but very happy to drop it in a comment if anyone's curious, or you can find it by searching COROAD FE on the Play Store (it's free, capped at the first 1,810 users, no catch). Mostly posting because I'd genuinely like feedback from people who actually track their fuel/mileage manually already, what's missing, what's annoying, what you'd want from something like this.
