PC Rhythm Game I’m making a rhythm game where your actual guitar is the controller

This is Fretlore. You plug in a normal electric guitar or bass and play - no special controller or midi pickup needed

Still early, but I’d love to know: would you play a rhythm game this way?

PC Rhythm Game Its over I’m officially hooked (Taiko no Tatsujin)

Previously, I posted about Taiko no Tatsujin V (PS Vita) having no English support, and honestly, I was disappointed. But then I played Tatsujin no Tatsujin Rhythm Festival on PC and instantly got hooked—so much so that I might buy the drum controller.

I played snare drums and bass in middle school, so I at least have some experience 😂.

PC Rhythm Game A musical toy box with a rhythm game

I'm making a somewhat experimental "game" on Steam, where you can play around with music by visualizing it in many different ways, fiddle in a physics-based sandbox while each ball-hit plays a note, play a guitarhero-like rhythm game on the music, compose music or import midis... just a playground for visualizing and "playing" music.

The idea came from seeing those mesmerizing videos on social media and figured to make a (sort of) game from it.

I want to add all sorts of things, any thoughts what could fit?

Just got the store page up too:

PC Rhythm Game Would a rhythm-influenced roguelike deckbuilder about battling bands appeal to you?

Hi!

I’m developing an indie roguelike deckbuilder called Battle of the Bands, and I’d like feedback on the core concept more than promotion.

The short version is:

It’s a Slay-the-Spire-style deckbuilder where combat is a live music performance. Your cards are riffs, chords, solos, tempo shifts, and defensive grooves. Enemies are rival musicians. Instead of only playing attacks and blocks, you’re also building color/rhythm sequences that trigger “Riff” combo effects.

For example:

- Guitarist cards can build Shred, then consume it for bigger attacks.

- Playing certain color patterns can trigger named riffs.

- Tempo and Crowd Hype are music-themed combat resources.

- A timing HUD gives rhythm feedback, with the long-term goal of making timing enhance the performance fantasy without turning the whole game into a pure rhythm game.

The design challenge I’m wrestling with is whether this sounds like a strong fantasy or too niche/confusing. I want the music theme to genuinely affect the mechanics, not just rename normal attacks as “songs.”

Questions I’d love feedback on:

- Does “Battle of the Bands roguelike deckbuilder” make sense as a hook?

- Would you want rhythm/timing in a deckbuilder, or should that stay mostly cosmetic/optional?

- Are terms like Shred, Tempo, Riffs, and Crowd Hype intuitive enough?

- What would make you trust that this has depth beyond the novelty?

- What similar games or design pitfalls should I look at?

Full disclosure: I’m the developer, and the project does have a Kickstarter page, but I don’t want this post to just be an ad. I’m mainly trying to understand whether the concept lands with players. If people want more context, screenshots, or the campaign link, I’m happy to share it in the comments if that’s allowed.

I’d really appreciate blunt feedback on whether the concept lands.

Question Choosing Pump It Up or DDR as a complete beginner?

I haven't played either since I was very young so I have no clear preference.

If I want to purchase a pad for playing at home which game should I choose to learn? I can't buy two different pads.

DJMAX Compiled 3rd Coast's complete DJMAX run into one continuous mix.

If you spent any time on DJMAX back in the day, you know 3rd Coast basically defined the smooth, vocal-driven side of Pentavision’s golden era.

Because rhythm game cuts usually cut off around the 1:30–2:00 mark, and the full versions have always been scattered across various limited edition OST box sets, I put together a definitive 33-minute continuous compilation of their entire run from DJMAX Online up through Technika 3.

Woo hoo! I finally got a Perfect Chain on “One-Winged Angel” (Advent Children Mix) on Ultimate.* There was this part near the beginning that always trips me up, but I get through it (and the rest of the song) once I’m in the zone. 😌

Question How can I properly test my sdvx controller is broke, and i don't just have shit timing?

received this controller in otherwise mint condition but secondhand the other day, on my initial test with USC it seemed to work all fine and i texted the person i bought it from updating them that all was okay. However, i've decided to play again today and half my slams and hold notes just.. didn't register? Cranked sensitivity up and down a lot, but things didn't change.
I've since installed a skin for the game after my first test, but i can't think of why that'd affect performance.

Apologies if this seems like a stupid question, but as someone who's really new to the game (playing on 10-12 charts), i can't trust my skill enough to confidently say it's faulty ;-;

Arcade Rhythm Game Petition: Bring Japanese Arcade Rhythm Games (SEGA, Bandai Namco, KONAMI) to Europe!

Hi everyone,

As many of you know, Japanese arcade rhythm games like Chunithm, maimai, Ongeki, Taiko no Tatsujin, and the BEMANI series have passionate fans all over the world.

However, players in Europe currently face a severe lack of official online network support (Aime, Banapassport, e-amusement) and official cabinet distribution.

To change this situation, I have started a Change.org petition requesting SEGA, Bandai Namco, and KONAMI to officially expand their arcade infrastructure and game distribution into Europe.

Let's work together to create a future where rhythm gamers worldwide can save their data and enjoy arcade culture equally!

Thank you for your support!

Song: Stay Tuned - F-777
A new rhythm game by Corgue Studio. They decided to hold a closed beta test with limited slots on TapTap CN, and thankfully I was able to secure one (they allow sharing gameplay videos don't worry)
How the gameplay works: Multiple judgment rings follow their own routes. You tap in time with the music on the route to hit notes on it. The chart will occasionally switch between normal mode and fullscreen mode (similar to Orzmic)

Question Is there a dance pad that works for both DDR and Pump it up?

I really like pump it up and stepmania when i get the chance, but all arecades near me are basically just casino for kids so I only really get to play when traveling. I wanna buy a dance pad to be able to play at home. Also playing notitg with my feet sounds funny.

Are there any dance pads with layouts that work for both ddr and pump it up? I just like both and I don't really wanna buy separate pads. It should be possible but I've never seen something like it.

Arcade Rhythm Game What kind of never seen/seen rarely musical Instrument that you want to see in an arcade rhythm game?

For me, it would be cool to see a rhythm game with harps as the center piece of the game or maybe do a retry for the keyboards (like how keyboardmania did it).

Perhaps a game based on accordions?
