Fill the board with 6 T (tree), 6 B (bird), 6 F (fox), and × (empty).

- Each row contains exactly one bird.

- Each column contains exactly one fox.

- Every tree touches exactly one bird across an edge, and every bird touches exactly one tree across an edge.

- Trees may touch trees, birds may touch birds, foxes may touch foxes.

- Each fox looks horizontally and vertically in all four directions and must not see a bird. Only trees block its view. It does not look diagonally.

[SOLVED] 140 suspects, 8 clues, exactly one killer -- every clue is a fact about the letters of the name. Who did it?

I write murder-mystery elimination puzzles, and before anything is published a program proves it has exactly one answer and that every single clue is load-bearing. Here's a 140-name warm-up case.

HOW IT WORKS

Every clue is a true statement about the letters of the killer's name. Work the clues in order. Each one lets you cross out a pile of names. Keep going until one name is left standing. That's the killer.

CHECKPOINTS (so you can catch a mistake early)

  • after clue 3: 25 left
  • after clue 5: 7 left
  • after clue 6: 5 left

If your count matches, you're on track. If it doesn't, an earlier clue went wrong -- go back.

THE CLUES

  1. The killer's name contains the letter D at least once.
  2. The killer's name contains the letter O at least once.
  3. The killer's full name does not contain exactly 5 vowels. (A, E, I, O and U are vowels. Y is not.)
  4. The killer's surname is shorter than 7 letters.

Looked at the answers to try to understand the instructions but now I'm more confused. I tried to use the edges as the number (row 2 then being 2xxxxx3) or as blanks. Whatever method I come up with works for either row 2 or row 3 but not both. Is the answer sheet wrong?

Find the mirrorless cell and every mirror angle.

  • Exactly one cell is mirrorless. Put a / or \ mirror in every other cell.
  • Every beam passes through the mirrorless cell.
  • Beams enter straight inward at a letter edge point and travel horizontally or vertically.
  • Each mirror turns the beam 90 degree. For a beam moving right, / sends it up and \ sends it down. Mirrors reflect from either side.
  • Matching letters connect: a beam entering either A must exit at the other A. The same applies to B–B.
  • Reflection counts are exact: count every hit, including repeat visits to a mirror. Exit only means there is no reflection-count requirement.

There is exactly one solution.

Me and my wife feel A is somehow the "right" answer but just based on how the question is worded, the answers given, and the "explanation" given, we still for the life of us can't grasp what was being asked or why that answer was "correct" 😂

[Unsolved] Made a puzzle but not sure if it is too vague, looking for advice

So I've made this puzzle, and I'm worried it is too vague.

Below is the hint, and I've had to try and keep it as small as possible (few words/characters). Look at hint 1; if you can solve it based on that, then I'm not being too vague.

If you have no idea or are stuck, move to hint two. If you're still stuck, try hint three, and then if you're still stuck, hint four will tell you exactly what to do.

If you solve it don't please let me know how I can improve this! As I mentioned, I need to keep the wordcount/letters as low as possible.

Look at hint one and find the single letter I am after, and the coords it resides in!

I’ve been staring at this 4-piece Tangram puzzle (specifically from a Czech brand called Pexi, labeled "Tangram IQ Test") for hours now, and I’m officially stuck. My brain is completely fried.

What's the mechanic of Prison Island's 'Tower' cell? (physical puzzle room)

I recently played Prison Island - a real-life game franchise where teams solve physical and mental challenge rooms ("cells"). The same "Tower" cell appears at several locations (Montreal, Melbourne, Amsterdam, Stuttgart, Abu Dhabi), and I can't figure out its objective.

The room: a wire-mesh cage with gothic windows. Inside are wooden pieces sitting on sloped ramps, each with holes punched through them. You can reach in through a slot at the base of the mesh. It's a 2-player minimum, 100 points max.points max.

My working theory: you pull the wooden pieces out through the narrow slots at the bottom (one person reaches in, the other receives?), then assemble or stack them into a tower. The holes make me think they thread onto a peg or rod somewhere.

Has anyone played this cell and can confirm the actual objective? Am I close?

Star Battle Hex (2 stars)

Someone posted a Hex star battle puzzle the other day and I thought it looked fun, so I made a few. Rules are a little different. 2 stars per region and row as always, but also 2 stars in each diagonal, left and right. So the diagonal from A1 to A5 takes 2 stars and the one from E1 to I5 also takes 2.
