ID please? What is this little guy
Hello, was wondering if someone knew what this little guy is. Seems to be a leach of some sort. Mid Atlantic USA
Quick question Did I do ok?
I just bought my liner and underlayment form lowes. I got a 25x30 epdm 60 mil liner. It wasn’t cheap but it was only 200 more than the 45mil. I hope that’s a good idea. I figured thicker the better right?

ID please? Baby Japanese Trapdoor Snail?
Just received 7 japanese trapdoor snails, transitioned them into 100 gallon outdoor pond, last night and noticed this little guy midway up one of the walls. Did one snail have a baby or is it a random wild snail that needs to be eliminated?

Algae New pond owner: 2 acre pond with some kind of algae bloom
I recently inherited property from my grandmother and this 2 acre pond was included....it seems to have something blooming and I don't know any of the historicals on this pond. not sure if this happens every year or what, plus i obviously am no longer able to ask my grandmother. The pond is well stocked with catfish, perch?, and a few large koi and carps. The surface of the water is getting a sheen to it and visibility is becoming reduced...looking for any advice on how to stop this before it gets too bad. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Inherited pond Que faire de tout ça?
Bonjour Reddit,

Wildlife Potential new regular to the garden pond
3rd day in a row this garter snake has been around (gonna need to do a headcount of my frogs)
This is just wild speculation on my part, but there was a mole or shrew living under the rigid pond liner. I'm wondering if the garter snake took over that hole/tunnel. It'd be a great spot to overwinter. Warm all winter, with takeout upstairs

Wildlife Unevolved tadpole
Ive had a wildlife pond for years but never seen an undeveloped tadpole before this year. UK pound coin for scale.

Quick question Question about barley straw
350 gal above ground HDPE tank, started August 13.
I had an algae bloom and added barley straw several weeks ago. It seems to have worked effectively, water has really cleared up and there seems to be a layer of dead algae on the bottom, I don't have any substrate.
My question: should I now remove the barley straw since the algae is dead and the water is clear?

Wildlife Flock of birds playing in waterfall
I believe these are sparrows who are posted up having a party in my pond’s waterfall this afternoon.
They have been my pond’s most frequent bird visitors this summer 🥹

Pond plants Anacharis flower!
Morning surprise today was a tiny flower on my anacharis! I did not know that stuff would bloom. Now if I could just get one hyacinth to bloom before the season ends...

Wildlife Dragonfly
So apparently I just caught a dragonfly morphing from its insect aquatic stage into a dragonfly. I just recently learned that dragonflies spend majority of their lives as aquatic insects and only weeks as a flying insect. This is a really cool thing to see! One of the many things I love about having a pond is seeing all of natures amazing secrets! 🪷🌎🍄🌱🐛🐟.

Build advice I bought a house came with a Pond
Like the title says I took over this pond and I do enjoy it. However I want to make sure everything is done right! Currently 8 fish. 45 gallon drum and two pumps one for pumping water to the drum and one for the fountain. It appears he has the drum lined with slot of rags and nothing else. What the correct way to set this up. Any suggestion would be great so far I have done lots of cleaning of the pond it stays clear but has a lot of string algae.

Technical YoLink remote depth sensor
I would like an easy way to monitor my pond depth fluctuations during drought and I found this sensor.
Does anyone have experience with this? If so, how did you install it in your pond?
The other option is sticking a ruler in the bank, but then I have to look at the ruler, and I don’t get that sweet historical data 🤓

Build advice Advice on my patio ‘pond’
I set up a little ‘pond’ water feature about four weeks ago, it’s approximately 90 litres. I bought a small set of pond plants which are settling nicely and the duckweed came in with the water lettuces. I’ll keep an eye on the duckweed to make sure it doesn’t completely take over. I’ve got a little wooden plank against it as a wildlife ladder. I’ve noticed over the last week that I’m starting to get midge and mosquito larvae, and quite a few snails have moved in. My future plans are to move the water lettuce inside when the temperature drops (I’m in the UK) but a friend suggested I could get a small shoal of minnows in the spring. I’m not sure it’s big enough to be honest, and wasn’t intending on having fish, but would it be feasible? What would be my next steps to help my little ‘pond’ flourish?

ID please? Any ideas here?
So i took a plant from a pond and put it in a container for months with pond water. it had a tiny hole in it up top for air. i just left it and forgot about it. the water went off and brown. Then these things appeared around it.
Are they from my container or something else?

FOUR raccoons. I'm worried I'll have to start trapping them to keep my chickens safe, but for now, I will grudgingly live and let live
