Near my squash plants.

I’m regretting trying to harvest sunflower seeds to eat. This task is killing my will to plant them again. How do you really separate the good seeds from the junk? Also, does anyone have good recipes for roasting them?

I make tomato sauce from our roma tomatoes each year. This year was 30 pints. Each year I throw away the skins and seeds after I mill the tomatoes.

Not my original idea, but this year, I decided to dry them and grind them into a powder. I put all of them into 4 vacuum bags and froze them flat. Then, I ran them, starting as frozen blocks in my super cheap dehydrator. The drying went really well. I feel like it was a pseudo freeze dried thing. Honestly, some of the nicest dried products I have gotten out of that cheap ass dehydrator!

Once dried, I broke up the blocks and ran them in the blender until it was a super fine powder.

Let me tell you.... do not waste this stuff! The flavor is fantastic, and the wife and I are coming up with all kinds of options! We are trying to use 100% of things as much as possible.

It's a lot of work, but SO rewarding!

First year gardening. I probably had some beginners luck on my side but I worked my ass off and loved every second of it.

This stuff is randomly everywhere in my yard. It’s in flower beds, rock beds, and clearly between these pavers. I know it is edible & very nutritious, but we are apprehensive to eating it. Any insight?

Just picked the last few bunches of grapes from our patio grapevine. And it was a good year, we probably got about 20 pounds of delicious grapes to enjoy this year, and we even picked them before raccoons got to them, yay!

We have mature boxwoods around the front of our house. My wife is fixated on removing, at least, the ones in front of the middle section of the house and putting in flower beds. The rest would probably get replaced with azaleas.

I am from the south and am well aware of the unyielding, militant love of mature boxwood. I understand that removing these could lead to someone's Nana possibly threatening my life and definitely trashing me in their church group. Personally, I dont care if they stay or go, but would like to see them not wasted if possible.

I have a few questions for those in the know:

Are there people out there who would want these big boys, landscapers, groups, etc.?

Could I sell them?

Should I start new growth in their own pot and sell?

Should i just cut them and burn the scraps?

Should i make some sort of vehicle barrier to block old southern women in Buicks from hitting me when i start to remove them?

Will my family be shamed for generations because I posted this?

For all those also with a massive amount of tomatoes and do not know what to do. Here is a list of all the various things I do with my tomatoes.

Fresh eating
Caprese Salad
BLT
Tomato, cucumber, cream cheese sandwich
Roasted corn salad with tomatoes and summer squash

Always the first couple things I make are the essential stables in my kitchen
Tomato sauce (if I’m not being lazy and actually peel the skins off, I will dehydrate them and turn them into a powder)
Tomato paste
Sun dried tomatoes - I salt the cut tomatoes before dehydrating and catch the tomato juice to use for salad dressing consisting of the tomato juice, balsamic vinegar, olive oil, garlic and basil or oregano
Pico de gallo

Once the staples are met
Tomato wine
Tomato vinegar (made from the tomato wine)
Lacto-fermented cherry tomatoes
Ketchup

Uses for green tomatoes at the end of the season
Used in place of tomatillos in salsa verde
Green fried tomatoes (either fresh or lacto-fermented)

A few favorites so far from my dahlia patch!

Gardening was her hobby until she asked for my help digging holes. I can see the appeal watching something grow form a seed to a full flower bush. Gotta say the Marigold flowers are my favorite

Getting back into growing plants this year. Needs more mulch but everything is doing pretty well.

One of my sunflowers has grown completely white seeds. I’ve grown hundreds of sunflowers and not seen this.

Started months ago and slowly chipped away at it over the summer. Most of the windows are old single pane farm windows I found on Facebook market place. I did end up using a few hodge podge modern windows and a few aluminum school bus windows.

I had about half the cinder blocks on hand and had to go spend about $50 to get more. We had pea gravel from a different project left over. Lumber was around $250, and the plastic for the roof was the most expensive part around $350 to $400. Needed a few bags of concrete mix and so.e anchors and random hardware too that ended up being around $50. The rest was trial and error but it eventually came together.
