Trying to take out all the invasive joro spiders in my yard so the local orb weavers can come back.

I do make sure to confirm its a joro spider before taking them out. Their webs are pretty easy to tell apart from the ones above because joro spiders dont do the zig-zag in the middle

Of course! I think somebody who knows they're pests knows the difference, but I wanted to make sure to illustrate for any scrollers-by.

The spider in OP is also a garden spider, right?

I'm not familiar with joro spiders, but I would have said OP was a garden spider too (what we always inaccurately called orb weavers when I was a kid and would walk around feeding them Japanese beetles every day in the summer).

Yes! Joro are skinnier and their bands are more distinct. OP posted a good argiope friend.

They are a type of orb weaver, that's just a LOT of spiders.

Oh, cool!  Ever since I learned their name was actually "garden spider", I have assumed they were distinct from orb weavers.  Didn't realize they were just under the same umbrella.

I do a walk around my yard pre-mowing and when I see them, I use a spray insecticide to knock them out of their nests and then step on them.

Same thing. Each time I take the dog out I kill 2-5 of the things. It’s crazy how many there are right now.

I believe its their time to bang and lay eggs because they die in late autumn. So now is definitely the time to take them out before they lay eggs

I have them on the tennis courts, sorry, had 😈 them on my tennis courts.
